This is likely to get resolved, but per my own experience and Reddit, currently any attempt to claim the game is met with the error: "There was an issue that kept us from completing your request. No need to panic, just give it another try later."

I think Ill just wait for DOOM4. Thanks.

I'm gonna go ahead and argue that this is exactly what they want.

Kinda sad to "partially shelve" such an excellent game as Quake Live, but judgement goes into decisions such as this, and I bet you that id Software & Bethesda simply don't want to compete with themselves over some of their most hardcore shooter fans.

In other news, Popular Annual Game 2015 has now had its game servers sunsetted in anticipation of the imminent release of Popular Annual Game 2016.

(J/K, hopefully these days EA and large studios have better plans for keeping alive cheap, scalable server infrastructure for their games.)

Agreed 100%! The Quickmatch matchmaking REALLY needs some more constraining rules (like requiring a warrior vs. another team with no warrior... hello?! this happens in combination with support/no support, etc.).

Totally lax rules make for un-fun quick matches. They need to fix this ASAP.

I recommend that any player move on to Hero League ASAP, it's a lot better with drafting, and the game is great.

> Sheesh... <snipped>

I share your "sheesh" by the way, but this is a good patch. It is not a sweeping balance change but it makes competitive several warrior heroes (Stitches, ETC, Diablo, Chen received buffs).

From what I have seen on the PTR Chen might actually be overpowered now in the right hands, haha, and Diablo still takes like an expert setup to use (so he won't really be used... they are worried about him being overpowered so he is only negligibly improved).

This will be remembered as the "warrior buff" patch and basically it makes certain existing warrior heroes (Stitches, Chen, ETC, Diablo) more viable, with negligible nerfs for Zeratul and Johanna and Leoric (who will still be top tier in my opinion). Also the new hero (Lt. Morales) is good and interesting but not overpowered.

This is good to see. I respect DOTA2 enormously as a game, but it's very hardcore, and HOTS instead strikes a sweet spot in being a deep yet casual MOBA, and one that is more varied than DOTA or LOL in its various maps and outside the box hero designs.

Re: Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard has shown themselves to be very aware of the nuances of what makes it good and bad, and these refinements will make a very polished game better.

I believe you are thinking of Quake Live, unless you are referring to source code releases in which case I believe all the Quakes except maybe Quake IV have had non-game content source releases (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Quake Live isn't 100% Quake 3 but it's very very close, only a few modernizations to make it contemporary for what pro gamer people were doing with Quake 3 before it came out.

Perhaps the entire game serves as a send-up of the folly in buying things sight unseen, in which case it might be worth grabbing immediately.

Reloaded means you fired your weapon and need to reload cause it did not do enough the first time.

Seems pretty apt (and honest).

I may be biased because I think WildStar is an excellent evolution of WoW's flavour of MMO, but I'll accept the title literally.

To clarify, I interpret the PR as saying the name of the update itself is WildStar Reloaded, but the game's still named WildStar. No biggie.

I'll go one further and suggest that they add DLC for non-soldier childhood IPs, which are varied and interesting unit sets which ultimately only die horribly in interesting ways.

What's funny is I feel essentially the opposite of this. A new race to me means new starting zones, which is nice, and of course a little more visual and (marginal) attribute diversity, but how many of us have really explored every zone in even existing expansions?

A new class, however, I will definitely try, and possibly play the hell out of. Player class design is at the heart of WoW's gameplay diversity.

Disclaimer: I have no idea how these things work.

However, it seems like:

1] Publisher and developer falsely promote game with mockup advertising

2] Developer subcontracts out development

3] Only publisher and not developer is left legally culpable for false advertising

4] ???

I get that this is a civil case, but these settlements where certain parties yet not others are magically exonerated via settlement, against any logical argument of guilt of the various parties as a whole, makes me facepalm.

Every time one of these DDOS-MMO threads comes up I have to say the same thing ... Basically, they hit the target at its weakest point with full force and exploit any advantages, in-game or otherwise. ... there might be a bug that creates a profitable exploit in the game that only shows up when the server is under stress, for example.

Hey, even though I snipped out a bit, I appreciated every word of it. Thank you for saying what you had to say. I don't yet have a technical understanding of secure coding but I now understand the motivation behind why DDOS'ing a game can still be economically incentivized. It still seems ridiculous to me for WoW but I guess there are still enough people out there that want to buy in-game advantages that it's a strong enough market for people to be out there looking for exploits. I can imagine why that would be worse for free-to-play games (since the developers themselves there monetize the in-game assets).

In short, thanks for the explanation and the lesson.

I have only a vague conceptual notion of what a DDOS is, but I do wonder about motives here. Is this really just a pleasure-seeker or is it possible this is someone with a vested interest against Blizzard, such as a Chinese competitor? Or are all these attacks from China just coincidental due to them being infected bots all running unpatched Windows XP or something stupid? Just curious about how these things work.

I'm possibly preaching to the choir here, but anyone picking this up should pay special attention to The Darkness II and Bioshock 2.

The Darkness II is a bit niche and a bit of an underdog but really a lovely game if it is your cup of tea (complex shooter mechanics mixed with impressive art direction and decent heavy narrative).

Bioshock 2 isn't exactly an underdog, but it's my personal favorite (edging out Infinite) since it has the best shooter mechanics in the series and a unique and driving plot.

I love the entire Bioshock franchise, but Bioshock 2 is special and oddly underrated for being a great game in a headliner series. The Darkness II is great but a bit niche.
