The one line I liked about the art video game debate remarked something like how computer games weren't art because they relied on the audiences participation as opposed to 'art' which relied on the creators control to deliver the message.

Yet one thing bugged me about that.

If you have the worlds greatest painting/sculpture/play delivering the most important message of all time and no one sees it or talks about it. Is it still art? If the answer would be no, then isn't the aspect of audience participation a crucial non-bypass-able requirement.

Then wouldn't that mean, much to the chagrin of some, that computer games are in fact art. Just a much different form of it.

Unfortunately, what many of the demons and heathens that are being killed in this game are categories like...Islamists. hindu's, and atheists. last time I checked these were all still considered ...people...humans..sentient beings of the order homo sapien. Also, last time i checked...wasn't killing people ummmm.....un-Christian? (Thou shallt not kill?, ring any bells?)

In about 2 or 3 weeks we'll all look back at this and laugh.

Some will laugh that this 'rediculous' notion ever came to light.

Others may be laughing at how insubstantial and meaningless 'official denials' can be.

I can't wait to see which one it is

News Comments > Blizzard Goes MMO Only? - Updated
19. Re: No subject Jun 14, 2006, 11:21 UttiniDaKilrJawa

Ironically, me and a friend at work were just discussing my fears that Blizz will become the WoW Company instead of the great gaming company they've been in the past.

Although I am not a great fan of the MMO strategy I do realize that MMO does not necessarily equate to the monthyly payment business strategy. Diablo 3 could still be made into an MMO and ala Guild Wars (hell Guild Wars plays a LOT like Diablo, and yes I know why) where expansions would generate revenue if the players wanted to purchase it.

Also, to the poster ( forgot your handle) that said that RTS fans wouldn't be able to handle their games being turned to MMORPG I would like to point out the fact that before there was World of Warcraft there was Warcraft I II and III, all of which were RTS's. Fans didnt seem to have too much of a problem it appears.

Stick a fork in this one..I think its done.

When I first heard it was FPS, was like...ok....Deus Ex, System Shock 2...could work....then I heard it was just online team combat. Great Battlefield 2..the Shadowrun edition.

Don't know what this game ever did to the dev's, but it must have been bad to get this kind of attention.

1. ESRB BS May 8, 2006, 11:52 UttiniDaKilrJawa

The problem doesn't lie in the ESRB entirely.

The problem doesn't lie in the modders entirely.

To me it seems the problem lies within the mentality of America. As long as people think it is ok to depict scenes of brutal violence in media, but at the same time demonize the display of the human form; this problem will still exist.

I'm hoping they dont screw this up...been fiending for a new Shadowrun game forever. Almost kind of hoped that this game would find its way to a talented and skilled MMO developer. But this will do if its done right:)

News Comments > Dark World Online Announced
2. Re: No subject May 8, 2006, 11:43 UttiniDaKilrJawa

Actually its not really an obvious rip off of Underworld as much as it is an OBVIOUS rip off of World of Darkness setting from the White Wolf pen and paper games. ( cmon Dark World Online sheeesh, A+ for plagaristic intent)

I've been waiting for White Wolf to get off their duffs and find a good developer to make the World of Darkness into an online MMO now forever.

Now it saddens me to see a schlockmeister company like Tulga games just rip off the idea ( which they will pummel into the ground) and do it for themselves.

Decided to stop and take a look at the screen shots they have for Vanguard. So I hit the site find the shots, start going through them. About the 5th shot in the website apparently goes down and all I get are time out errors.

Guess the Fates are trying to tell me something.
