News Comments > Federal Video Game Bill
22. Re: No subject May 7, 2008, 23:24 UttiniDaKilrJawa

I work at a Gamestop in my home city. The interesting thing is we are already doing everything this bill demands. As far as I know virually every place that sells video games does the same.

I sell a game to a child under 17 without ID. I lose my job. A fellow worker does the same? Guess what? Gone. The real punchline comes in when we have a 7 year old come up with GTA in tow. We tell the parent that its rated M that it includes violence, language, sexual content, drug references, etc, etc. Then comes the real kick in the nuts. The PARENT goes 'oh whatever they see worse than that on tv anyway' and buy it for them. Right there is where the failure comes in. Not at the retail levl, but at the PARENT level.

Now, what happens when the government wins and gets this bill law. What about movies? How many theatres ID kids for movies? How many retailers do that? What happens when the movie is 'Unrated'. We see that all the time. Lil Jimmy cant buy Halo but has no problem walkin into <insert your favorite retail prefix>Mart and buys Hostel no problems. Guess we have to regulate that as well. No problem done.

Then we have magazines. Lot of magazines like GQ and Vanity Fair have some pretty racy pics. What now? They're not rated how can we make sure kids dont get their hands on it. Guess we need a rating system for printed word too. DONE. Look at that ..now we can regulate magazines and books too. I think we can all see where something like this could go.

It seems pretty silly to help get the ball rolling on a systematic dismantling of 1st amendment rights to make sure stores do what they are already doing. But then again, this is a silly country. Dismantled by the people for the people.

Translation: Why should we include it right away in the base game when we know you fools will pay for it later.

Was one of those unplanned sort of things. You know the kind that starts off with that infamous phrase 'I'll quit right after I accomplish <insert video game achevement here>'. Just one thing lead to the next lead to the next , before ya know it..72 hrs...POOF! ehehe

I always thought the phrase was

'Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door'

not

'Scribble down an idea about a better mousetrap then sue the pants off the guy that actually builds it once the world beats a path to his door.'

News Comments > KOTOR MMO Rumors Resurface
8. Re: No subject Mar 7, 2008, 13:15 UttiniDaKilrJawa

what mmos besides WoW are hogging up the limelight? wow is really the only game in town we havent had a really good MMO since then ..bioware would be the one to top or at least equal blizzard in terms of quality

Actually WoW is NOT the ONLY game in town. Its just the biggest and most well known. As far as Sci-Fi goes there are a couple of ones out there doing very well within their communities. CCP has EVE Online great for that TradeWars vibe. Anarchy Online is still chugging along with enough followers to be profitable. City of Heroes/Villians could also be considered a successful Sci-Fi RPG. Hell, even SWG is somehow managing to keep enough subscribers to make it profitable.

So as you can see by these examples there is always room for more MMO's whether or not they can be as good or better than Blizzards WoW.

Diablo as an MMORPG ( at least a pay to play version) is probably the one way they could make me not want to buy the next Diablo.

12. HD-DVD drives Oct 20, 2007, 11:45 UttiniDaKilrJawa

I could see this happening if they can get keep the production costs of the drives low enough. Its not really about the movie aspect, as much as the additional storage capacity the HD-DVD will give to developers. A couple developers already have had trouble shoe horning their games onto the standard DVD's so it could be launched onto the X-Box. If they do it, it'll probably be launched as some sort of Media Edition.
