Don't forget, he made the best levels in Quake too. At least IMO. I loved the E3 and E4 levels.

I agree: anon@216.23 is weak. His messages smack of too much effort and not enough funny.

Anyway, until we see benchmarks and pricing for the 9900 pro what good does it do to debate whether or not it's worth it.

Mac users aren't missing much. The original game was boring and poorly balanced.

I've heard the expansion is better, but I'm still skeptical after hating the original so much.

Once again, we gamers suffer. I'm sure my feelings of sorrow and loss are shared by all gamers, when they learn that.. there.. will be.. no Eminem game.

Excuse me while I find a corner to slowly rock back and forth in while I quietly sob.

I picked this one up simply because I liked the driving in GTA3 so much.
Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed. The controls and physics feel very arcady and simplistic (yes, even more than GTA3), and the framerate flucuates a lot.
Honestly I only played it for about 10 minutes before I quit out. Maybe someday I'll try it again, but it didn't make a good first impression.

1GHz CPU
256MB RAM
GF1 or Radeon 7xxx series card

Yes, I'm sure you'll be able to watch the Doom3 intro movie just fine with that config.

Well, maybe it's not your cup of jizz, but I loved the first one. Second one wasn't as good but still fun.

I haven't played the first one, and know very little about the game other than the amazing looking screenshots..

Is it racing in the sense that you have a track and laps? Or like drag racing? How the does the game progress, etc..

3. Re: Greyhawk matters Jun 20, 2003, 13:38 Pineapple Ferguson

I'm not sure, but since Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms, which is what Baldur's Gate and NWN is set in are two different game worlds, there's probably two different game licenses.
On top of that, I think Bioware lost the D&D license. Of course, I could be wrong.

Wow, nice TOEE preview. Just like every other one I have read but without the personality, or any awareness of the product. Please, tell me more about your game.. how you say.. Greyhawk?

2. Love this game Jun 16, 2003, 20:08 Pineapple Ferguson

This game rocked. Me and a buddy picked it up a few weeks ago because we were looking for a good co-op experience. It definitely delivered... we ended up playing it for about 14 hours straight.
I ended up playing through the single player campaign, which was also very good, and also very difficult in a few places.

9. Re: Too Bad Jun 10, 2003, 00:58 Pineapple Ferguson

I agree as well. However, I'm not a huge fan of real-time D&D games, even with the option to pause.
I like seeing the nuts and bolts.. the dice rolls, who hit for how much, etc.
With the Infinity Engine games, at least in the end games, the combats got so hairy and over the top that it was just about impossible to keep up with the action. IWD2 for example, was like that.
I'd really like to see a Pools of Radiance-type game, with turn based combat and generally more true to the rules. (without the horrible bugs and general suckiness of that particular game of course).
That's why I was pretty stoked to see the new Greyhawk game that Troika is developing. Really looking forward to that one.

I would be really surprised to see Doom3 make their release date, whatever that might be. I'm sure with the E3 HL2 footage the guys at Id are probably shitting their pants.

Still, I'll buy both and hope they are both great. In terms of movies, I just see Doom3 as being another Lethal Weapon type movie, whereas Half-Life 2 will be the Pulp Fiction.

Actually, I found the Expert levels to be easiest because you couldn't KILL anyone, but you could blackjack to your heart's content. At least that's how I remembered it.

Plus, the additional objectives really added a lot of flavor.

Can't wait.

I loved the first one from start to finish. The second was still fun, but by then the engine was really showing its age. It wasn't exactly cutting edge at the time the first one was released but that just goes to show you that great gameplay > pretty graphics.

1. I don't understand.. Jun 6, 2003, 10:45 Pineapple Ferguson

..why this game got such good reviews. Sure, it was pretty, but it was so simplistic. The NPC interaction was repetitive and boring, some of the missions were kinda fun, but the random missions were the same 3 or 4 missions with just a few names changed, and the factions were very poorly implemented.

I guess I was hoping for something better, such as the original X-Wing and Tie Fighter games, or Freespace 2.

Well, I'm glad you liked it. I enjoyed it for a while but after trudging around for ages I just got bored out of my mind.

Not only that, but I never found the combat to be particularly interesting.

I love RPG's but this one should have won The Most Boring Game of the Year award. Neat story, but endless hiking back and forth really ruined it.

5. Turn based D&D May 2, 2003, 12:33 Pineapple Ferguson

I'm so glad they are sticking with turn based for ToEE. I like BG but it never really felt like true D&D because of real time combat. Hopefully, it will be better than Pool of Radiance..
