Who said Doom3 didn't interest me? I'm allowed to be interested Doom3 and HL2 at the same time aren't I?
I just have a hunch based on playing the previous titles that the single player in HL2 will be better than Doom. Multiplayer is probably a different story.

"There is no doubt in my mind Doom 3 will beat Half Life 2 in every way possible."
Funny, I was thinking the exact opposite. Half-life was a better single-player game than all the Doom and Quake games combined.
And after seeing the E3 HL2 vids, and D3 vids and screenshots, I would say that they are very close, but I think HL2 still looks better.

You guys are weird. Swearing off buying something good because a previous product was inferior. You guys do remember the suck that was the Riva 128, right? And the Voodoo Rush? We'd all be holding onto our stock boards and waiting for Bitboys' card if we refused to buy a company's product because they made a stinker in the past.
You obviously never had an ATI card within the last 10 years. Their drivers where HORRIBLE and their driver support was even worse. I'm not talking about just one little bad experience, I'm talking about a consistent, long-term problem. To me, ATI was synonymous with "shitty card with bad drivers". Oh, and the reason I'm so familiar with this is because my company purchased Compaq computers with ATI cards. So every time I got a new computer, which was roughly whenever I wanted, that's what I got. Point is, I did swear off buying them but now they've apparently replaced the corpse that was in charge of developing drivers with real people who are good at their jobs. So, what's so wierd about it? ATI is top-dog now, Nvidia is falling. I'm not swearing off Nvidia, but I'm 90% certain that my next card will be an ATi.

Man, why did ATI go and dig such a hole for itself for me. Back in the 90's their drivers were such crap that I vowed to never buy their product again -- not just your casual vow, mind you. It involved candles, pentagrams, ground up ATI cards, the works...
Man.. so true, so true. And yet, how can any serious gamer not be considering ATI at this point? I have a ti4006, but I'm already planning on buying the ATI/HL2 bundle when I see it.

Well I could take the time to respond point by point like you did, but I have better things to do, like not crying like a fucking baby.
This is funny though: Granted, I could have known that ToEE was going to be limited, but since nobody had ever said anything to that effect, I was quietly hoping that Troika deemed level caps a stupid idea, and would have just let you build characters all the way up to the high level stuff. So much for thinking a developer might do something challenging for a change...
No one ever said that there was a 10 level cap? You mean no one ever said that in any of the numerous FAQs and previews? Or no one personally emailed you and told you that? It's obvious that you're an idiot. I win, you lose, now STFU kthxbye.

Boo-fucking-hoo. Couple things you should know once the tears from your eyes are dry enough for you to read:
ToEE is based on an actual Pen and Paper module designed for levels 1-8. Level 10 in 3rd edition is pretty powerful.
Troika had like 20 months to make this game. There's gotta be some sort of limit on character levels to keep the game balanced with finite content. Chances are if this game lives up to expecations there will be future sequels.
You want to talk about IWD2? They were using an engine that was already done and had 4 years of polishing, including spell effects and monster models. Sure they might have added a few little things, but for the most part all they needed to concentrate on was game content. And don't forget it was a sequel.
NWN? Shitty gameplay, and a poorly balanced campaign. Besides, there's no way you hit the level cap when you finished it anyway. Sure, you could always make your own modules if you wanted to play the higher levels, but the trade off is a poorly implemented set of rules, and an ugly, limiting, tileset.
I'm surprised you didn't cry about the turn-based combat and lack of multiplayer.

Keep in mind that this game is a "port" of an original Pen and Paper module made 20 years ago. It was designed for levels 1-8 if I remember right. Anyway, level 10 makes for some pretty powerful characters.
And in regards to your Baldur's Gate reference, guess you forgot that the original BG limited you to levels 7-8? :p
Anyway, rumor is if this game does well enough there will be future installments, so just enjoy the game for what it is and hope for sequels.

In response to my previous post (I can't edit it for some reason):
I was talking about AoW:SM.
But since this topic is supposed to be about Etherlords, I will just say that I downloaded the demo, but it won't install.

If you're a fan of turn-based strategy games, it's great.
It does have a steeper learning curve than HoMM, but once you figure out how to play you will love it.

Sad thing is IV could have been great if they had spent the time to make the AI better. And balanced the heroes a bit more, or left them out of combat.
I loved the graphics and the magic and skills system in IV. It's just too bad that they couldn't spend the time to fix the AI.

"who don't understand that pen and paper role playing games like 3rd edition D&D can't simply directly translate over to the CRPG environment"
What are you talking about? The whole reason D&D has not been translated properly for so long is because of all the REAL TIME games. You cannot accurately translate the rules to a CRPG in real time. D&D is inherently TURN BASED. There are tons of rules and mechanics that hinge on that factor alone.
So, yes, it would appear that they are in fact doing it right with TOEE.
