The only thing about this Metacritic stuff that shocks me is how hamfisted they appear to have gone about it. Same with the AAA review sites - it's as if they didn't merely exert their influence, as many big publishers do...it's as if they gave them a press package and told them not to deviate from the script.
I agree.. it's really sad and disheartening. Not I expect that my stance is going to make a difference to anyone but me, but I've decided that the only thing I can do as a consumer is to stop preordering games and stop buying on day zero. There are still a few critics out there who will post an honest and thorough review to help you decide if the game is worthy of your purchase. You just have to be willing to wait a month or two to read them.
That said, I haven't bought DA2, but I probably will eventually. I liked the first one, but when I'm seeing 10/10 and five star reviews before the game is even out, it makes me skeptical. Not to mention the inevitable DLC gouging that's coming soon. Another good reason to hold off on buying a game as soon as it somes out..

| If you're into this stuff (Spartacus, Rome, Camelot, etc.), you've probably heard of HBO's adapation of Song of Ice and Fire which will be starting this spring. If you haven't, look into it. Great books, and from what I've seen, it looks like HBO is going to do it right. |

| Indeed. I loved the RPG series, especially MM6, but I've always enjoyed the Heroes games as well, 2 and 3 in particular. This looks a lot like Heroes 5, which is great as far as visuals and gameplay goes, but it's hard to see anything really new or innovative from this clip. |

| Pretty decent demo, and I liked the first one a lot, but there's not a chance in hell I'm gonna buy this before it's inevitably bundled with all the DLC in the GOTY edition. Sorry EA, not gonna gouge any extra money out of me this time! |

That's my new credo as well. I'm done buying in early to get to play only half the content. Not to mention every game is likely to be riddled with bugs anyway when it first comes out. I can wait for inevitable (and cheaper) bundle.

| Campaign setting aside, this looks really consoley and action-oriented (aka shitty). Sadly, I don't see how this could compare to the depth of any of the classic D&D games of the past from Bioware and Black Isle, or even Dragon Age. I'd love to be wrong though. |

| I don't find it too dumbed down.. I actually really like most of the changes they made to the game mechanics, but I do think the AI and diplomacy interactions are lacking and disappointing. |

| Stop believing the hype, especially from Bethesda (so many bugs and lies.. remember all hype about radiant AI?). I'm done preordering games and paying to be a beta tester. Shit, now with the out of hand DLC racket I'm done buying any game right after it comes out. Thank you Mafia 2 for helping me to finally wise up. Yep I'm bitter about the state of PC gaming. |
