VC is the most outragous and fun-orientated one of the 3D versions) That's what I hear, but I don't think these games are easy to go back to. Each successor builds enough that old ones feel rudimentary.
I wanted to play VC but just never had a good chance for it. At the time I thought GTA was pretty much awe-inspiring. It wasn't until San Andreas that I turned very cold on them. VC is defintely the most fun and over the top. Great setting, missions, characters, radio stations.. yeah I loved that one. But you're right, it is hard to go back to those games after playing the subsequent ones. There is a mouselook mod for VC, which works pretty well. So that helps. |

That way if you do lose your connection, you don't lose any progress. Either way, always-on DRM for a single player game is an absolute dealbreaker for me. Glad he at least pointed it out and talked about its shortcomings. I half expect other review sites to gloss right over it. |

| If Bioware continues to follow their current trend, this will actually somehow be the worst game they've ever made. No really, it's gonna suck. Don't be retards and preorder this shit. You're just encouraging them to keep screwing you. |

| Terrible. I bought every iteration and most of the expansions for HOMM 1-5, and I was looking forward to this one. But denying content if I'm not online and connected to their tracking system is just not OK with me. No sale. If this is the way PC gaming is going, then I guess I'm done buying games. |

Fallout 4 will not be Skyrim with guns, we promise!
Anyway, good for Obsidian. Tim Cain has been involved in some of my favorite games. Fallout, Bloodlines, Arcanum, and Temple of Elemental Evil were all great... after numerous patches. So, you know, he should fit right in at Obsdian. Hey-ohh! |

Wise up, people. Stop preordering. Buy it only when the reviews from trusted, non PC Gamer sites, have posted their reviews. |

| Maybe they didn't release a cohesive bundle. Honestly, I haven't paid attention. Played through it once right when it came out, shrugged and said "meh", then uninstalled it. Graphically it looked nice, but I thought it was a big step back as far as depth and story went. Not that ME1 was all that deep, but it was just a more enjoyable game to me. |

| I was totally underwhelmed with ME2, and the addition of multiplayer to ME3 only makes me less interested because it means they are taking away resources that could have been making the single player game better to work on a feature that I don't care about. Plus, fuck EA. Might pick it up when all the ineveitable DLC has been trickled out and they have bundled up for dirt cheap. Maybe. |

CJ_Parker wrote on Oct 8, 2011, 19:30: I for one wish them the best of luck in their endeavor to screw the thieving assholes of this planet big time. Always-on is no problem at all for the vast majority of serious, legit and honest PC gamers of this world. It's only a problem for the stealing scum who like to keep their gaming PC(s) offline "just in case" so no one can detect their multiple terabytes of stolen games. Or for the cheapskates who are pissing their pants in sheer angst of any new DRM scheme that might actually all but eliminate piracy or at least delay cracks substantially.
Good luck, GSC! You guys rock!
Actually none of my games are pirated. As a legitimate buying consumer I can tell you why always on DRM is a bad idea:
* Flakey internet connections. Yes, I know that in this day and age, most people ARE always on, but guess what? Internet connections go out on occasion. Sometimes for days at a time (in the case where my router blew up). Shouldn't I be able to play a single-player game that I paid for, even under these circumstances?
* Problems at DRM authenticator location. Even if your internet connection is fine, if the publisher (or whoever is in charge of running the DRM authentication) is having problems (or is under a DoS attack - both of which have happened) then guess what? You can't play your game.
* Lifecycle support. I sometimes like to play old games. I just discovered a ton of great Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 mods and am replaying it. Should you have to trust that in 10 years, if you feel like playing through a game like this that those DRM servers are still going to be up? Can you trust that the devs are going to do the right thing and strip out the always on DRM feature before that happens?
I don't have a problem with some form of DRM, but I do have a problem with always on. |

No matter how good Stalker 2 may turn out to be, I'm never going to support always on DRM for a single player game. |

Sure am glad I didn't buy this piece of shit game.
I was once a total id fanboy. Doom was the whole reason I got into PCs, let alone gaming. I played more hours on Quake 1 thru 3 than I care to count, but this just proves what I've been saying all along: You can't trust any game developer or publisher to do the right thing anymore.
Stop preordering and buying on day one. Make them earn your money based on trusted reviews, not by fleecing you with hype or your willingness to support them based on reputation from previous titles. |

What was disappointing about Portal 2? I mean other than it wasn't as original as the first one, but how could it be? I thought the story was great, the levels were interesting and varied, and I liked the new mechanics. Not to mention a pretty fun co-op campaign. What's there to be disappointed in? |

What a pointless trailer. Wooo, CGI!
But to answer the earlier post from the guy who hasn't played these before, the two best are probably 3 and 5. 1 and 2 were great also, but they may understandably look too dated for a first-time player to get past.
All the games are turn-based so you need to be the sort of person who can be patient and let the game evolve as you continue to play and uncover more of the map. HOMM3 is definitely one of my all time favorite games. |

I know their will be many balance issues, bugs, etc. & the modders need time to get everything dialed in right. That's my stance towards every new game anymore, but especially an Elder Scrolls game. Just be patient. Pick it up when it's all patched up and cheap, when they are done trickling out DLC, and the mod makers have made the game actually playable on PC. |

That's why I don't preorder or buy games on day one anymore. It's never a good idea to give game devs and publishers the benefit of the doubt.
McSterls wrote on Sep 6, 2011, 11:19: saw this over at GDN: A patch is set to be pushed out to North American PC version owners today. Destructoid received a list of fixes that would be in the day one patch for the game and here’s everything you can expect
So now only did Techland and Deep Silver know the game had some serious issues, they knew exactly what they were and again, instead of pushing out the release date, simply pushed out a broken game or rather, an unfinished product. No, it’s not the first time a company has done it, and will probably not be the last, but it’s starting to become a bad habit for the industry. |
