21. Twice the services, twice the fun? Apr 8, 2014, 13:33 ColBlister

The cool thing is that for games you buy on Steam that require Uplay, it doesn't matter which service you launch the game from, it will also launch the other service. Twice the waiting, twice the updates, twice the fun!

4. Season?!? Mar 29, 2014, 15:00 ColBlister

You think there's a "season" for BBQ? Naw, son. What you got right there is a "season" on your gumption. When I lived in Colorado, I kept the grill next to the sliding glass door that led to the deck. With that setup, the man-stove is always open for business. Sure, you get a little BBQ smoke inside sometimes, but that just whets the appetite. Long as the wind doesn't blow out the flame, your ribs'll do their happy-dance on the grill just fine, even in subzero weather.

9. Zaford's Chuliann SMG Mar 16, 2014, 00:09 ColBlister

I entered the shift code, fired up my Zer0 character and was delighted to find the Chuliann SMG in his backpack. However, when I equip this shiny new piece of certain death, it auto-slags my character. WTF? If I switch to a different weapon, the slag decays out. But if I re-equip the Chuliann SMG, my character complains of being slagged. What's up with that?

4. New Recipe? Feb 8, 2014, 12:18 ColBlister

Coco Bolognese. I like the sound of it. Maybe dribble some long fingers of bolognese sauce on a silicone baking mat and bake them until they're just slightly burnt and serve them on the side? Perhaps sprinkle them with a little parmesan right at the end of baking to give them body? Mmmm... I smell an experiment.

Heck, just this past weekend I was wondering whether there might be a way to move my in-progress Path of Exile game from my office out to the living room. Sounds like this might allow that.

48. Rebranding Jan 13, 2014, 17:07 ColBlister

Since EA won't be increasing the city size, perhaps they'll rebrand it "Sim Village" to achieve something closer to what they're providing?

28. Marketing Oct 15, 2013, 22:09 ColBlister

They're charging $100 to guarantee that only the true fanatics buy it before release. Those fans will then have to justify to themselves as well as to their friends that it was worth every penny, assuring plenty of pre-release positive buzz. It's a win-win for them.

10. Hope they develop for PC first Apr 15, 2013, 12:22 ColBlister

I hope they develop their next title for PCs first, taking full advantage of the hardware, and then worry about dumbing it down for a console port. Skyrim was horribly hobbled by having been crafted to run under the constraints of consoles.

12. Adrenaline causes aggression Feb 28, 2013, 16:48 ColBlister

Any activity that releases adrenaline will increase aggression. When I play a shooter, then sensation I get is exactly like what an aggressive racquetball game used to feel like, minus the exertion and sweat. Anyone concerned about increased aggression after playing video games should be just as concerned about competitive sports.

41. Shareholders should ask about PC ports Nov 19, 2012, 15:03 ColBlister

If I were a major shareholder in Take-Two, I'd be asking the board why they're leaving money on the table by failing to develop for the PC market. It is inconceivable that they would fail to make money, especially if they co-developed for PC and released at the same time.

Still no Red Dead Redemption for PC, proving Rockstar doesn't mind leaving a ton of money on the table. I'm surprised TTWO shareholders put up with this shit.

58. Another alternative: Path of Exile May 20, 2012, 10:58 ColBlister

An excellent title in development by an indie group in New Zealand is Path of Exile. Unlike D3, it allows quite a bit of specialization.

It'll be free-to-play when it comes out in August, but you can support the devs by donating $10 now to get in on their closed beta. I don't have any association with them except as a happy player.

Maybe they're doing this in hopes of getting people to forget the time they thought it'd help business to lie to their customers about being closed down?

Is it the casual, non-commercial motivated content piracy?
Is it the usual commercial content piracy in countries with a low per capita income?

The first cannot be undone, you have to live with it.

Actually, casual, non-commercial piracy is a function of cultural values. These values can be cultivated, so that people feel enough appreciation for content providers that they will choose to patronize them. For example, the excellent value proposition that Steam offers makes most of their customers very happy to support them. However, every time the content providers attempt to beat their patrons with a stick, their patrons find the content providers less worthy of respect.

For my part, the only games I have pirated yet would otherwise have gladly paid for have been from UbiSoft, specifically from having been abused by their DRM that stopped me from playing my legal copy of a single player game on my own damn computer while in the middle of a game. That's a burn that runs deep, and I suspect I'll continue to disrespect UbiSoft for a long time to come, even after they reform their ways.

47. Already duplicated Nov 4, 2011, 20:10 ColBlister

As with just about every other game release these days, we'll probably see a 45-minute install from disc, followed by a multi-gigabyte "patch" download. This allows them to press all the static assets to CD, while changing the code right up to release day.

News Comments > S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Always-on DRM?
53. gjbloom@yahoo.com Oct 8, 2011, 21:38 ColBlister

You can have internet with peachy connectivity and still get hosed. Suppose you have 1.4 mpbs DSL that is rock-solid reliable. Now suppose you try to play an always-connected-DRM game while your sweetie decides to watch some Netflix - guess what happens? Your single-player PC game that is running on your own PC suddenly boots you out of the game.

Hypothetical? Not at all. That's exactly what happened to me every damn time I tried to play Settlers 7. There is absolutely no justification in the world for killing a single-player game in the middle of gameplay. None that will get me to purchase another game that requires "always-on", anyway.
