A mere 80 GB download on my 7 mbps DSL line, that'll only take 25 hours of 100% bandwidth, to enable a weekend of free play. That's a peculiar value proposition.

Seems real enough to me, if its a joke they put a lot of effort into it.

Amazon has also rolled out an API so that device manufacturers can build-in automatic re-ordering if your coffeemaker runs out of coffee or your printer runs out of ink.

What's your opinion on using finger guards while cutting. Like these.

When the average American household earns $40k, and the average Russian household income is $17,000 per year, there's bound to be pricing differences between regions, as there's pricing differences between all goods across regions.

Not all goods. In fact, most goods are priced beyond the buying power of the less wealthy. There's just no way the average Bangladeshi will ever afford a Bugatti Veyron, and Bugatti isn't marketing a cut-rate Veyron to sell to the less well-heeled.

By offering discounted pricing in less-affluent markets, software manufacturers are revealing that they are able to make a profit at this lower price. This implies they're charging a higher price in more affluent markets because that's what they believe those suckers are willing to pay.

Because of the angular displacement of pixels at distances greater than about 2 meters, video content on a 4K screen looks little different to the average viewer from average TV viewing distances. The eye has to be much closer to the screen for it to make any real difference. If you thought the uptake of 3D TV was tepid, wait until you see the big yawn consumers give 4K.

The real market for 4K is computer monitors, where the viewer is close enough to distinguish each of those 8.2 million pixels. I use a 50-inch 4K TV as my computer monitor, and aside from the fact that games are limited to 30 FPS and many apps aren't written to cope with this brave new hdpi world, it is wonderful.

People who part with $150 for early access will be subject to confirmation bias. They are less willing to see fault in something they've paid richly for. Trion are thus assured of having an early fan base who say many positive things about the game, while minimizing negatives. You can't buy that kind of positive buzz. No, in fact, it appears you have to sell it.

When I look at Metacritic, I compare how well the critic's score lines up with the user's score. If a game has an 80 from journalists but users only give a 7.2, I'll be extra cautious. Flipsidewise, a game that has a journalists score of 74 but the users give it 8.0 is almost certainly a buy. Seems like journalists are often influenced by things other than fun.

The cool thing is that for games you buy on Steam that require Uplay, it doesn't matter which service you launch the game from, it will also launch the other service. Twice the waiting, twice the updates, twice the fun!

You think there's a "season" for BBQ? Naw, son. What you got right there is a "season" on your gumption. When I lived in Colorado, I kept the grill next to the sliding glass door that led to the deck. With that setup, the man-stove is always open for business. Sure, you get a little BBQ smoke inside sometimes, but that just whets the appetite. Long as the wind doesn't blow out the flame, your ribs'll do their happy-dance on the grill just fine, even in subzero weather.

I entered the shift code, fired up my Zer0 character and was delighted to find the Chuliann SMG in his backpack. However, when I equip this shiny new piece of certain death, it auto-slags my character. WTF? If I switch to a different weapon, the slag decays out. But if I re-equip the Chuliann SMG, my character complains of being slagged. What's up with that?

Coco Bolognese. I like the sound of it. Maybe dribble some long fingers of bolognese sauce on a silicone baking mat and bake them until they're just slightly burnt and serve them on the side? Perhaps sprinkle them with a little parmesan right at the end of baking to give them body? Mmmm... I smell an experiment.

Heck, just this past weekend I was wondering whether there might be a way to move my in-progress Path of Exile game from my office out to the living room. Sounds like this might allow that.

They're charging $100 to guarantee that only the true fanatics buy it before release. Those fans will then have to justify to themselves as well as to their friends that it was worth every penny, assuring plenty of pre-release positive buzz. It's a win-win for them.

I hope they develop their next title for PCs first, taking full advantage of the hardware, and then worry about dumbing it down for a console port. Skyrim was horribly hobbled by having been crafted to run under the constraints of consoles.

Any activity that releases adrenaline will increase aggression. When I play a shooter, then sensation I get is exactly like what an aggressive racquetball game used to feel like, minus the exertion and sweat. Anyone concerned about increased aggression after playing video games should be just as concerned about competitive sports.
