Yep - Dead Island is an amazing game... about 6 hrs in now doing all that I can (yep I've found a couple of pistols so far).
The free-formness of it is amazing - this is what Far Cry 2 should have been like. Super super fun playing this game. Only irksome thing is there is a lot of backtracking if you are a completionist but fast travel helps this a lot. Fantastic world design and combat is good so far - really need to think about how to take thugs out etc (the bigger (yet early level) zombies).
Having more fun with Dead Island at the moment as it is a pisstake of a game - and I haven't even played co-op at all yet...!
DX:HR is still great also, but the visceral fun and extreme freedon of Dead Island has me hooked more so right now... |

Per-pixel hit detection - really another worthless improvement a la the lighting emphasis but still a notable improvement regardless.
I wonder if this is a logical progression from the mega texture stuff touted in Team Arena to do the outdoor areas?
Seems pretty similar to me... even with Q3 being the base game (D4) and then the follow up completes the picture they were shooting for... Team Arene (Rage).
Let's hope iD finally makes a game that can live up to the tech, or at the very least let's hope another developer does down the track. |

See that's the thing... as they've changed the drops for weapons a couple of times and I don't follow the game much I too have nfi how to get the unlocks... and it doesn't appear to tell me anywhere how to do it either. This isn't impetus for me to try and 'farm' them either... but rather impetus for me to quit in frustration.
As much as I love valve I think they are slipping more and more since the release of HL2, ever so slowly, what with the episodic jokes (quick my ass) loss of great atmosphere in HL and the L4D debarcle. Portal seems to be the real shining star at the moment with TF2 enjoying a brief spot in the limelight, only to be destroyed by it's own popularity... imo.
Oh well shitloads of other games to play regardless! |

Hate to say it... but ever since the random extra items came in I just can't play TF2 anymore... I seem to be playing the same old vanilla shit while everyone else is having fun with baseballs or something... Unlocks are shit for someone who might only play an hour or two a week... |

You willingly gave up your ability to defend yourself. You are proud of this? In my local society I don't need the ability to defend myself with a firearm. And yes I am proud of that.
My government controlled insulated world has nary any gun violence (though bikey and mafia gang warfare has been on the rise lately) and has decent welfare and health systems, and a pretty good record for equality of all creeds. I also have the choice to buy a gun if I feel the need (though not automatic).
I also went on to admit that guns are just part of Americana, and should be accepted as such. I'm not trying to get you to lay down your god-given right to shoot some guy in self defense with a gun legally. But I'm saying it's just naive to assume that your legalisation of weaponry had no correlation whatsoever with gun violence over there. Tighter restrictions will probably change the statistics for the better.
People who refuse to defend themselves, like you, are the real trash. How so? Because by my doing so you lose a legitimate reason to have your weapon? If I had a gun it wouldn't help me get censored games.
I bet if I say something as equally as provocative such as people who are ready to go to war over virtually nothing are the real trash I could get an equal reaction.
Why are you so aggressive? Oh that's right, it's your right to try and force me to shut the fuck up because I don't agree with you. |

We had a gun buy-back scheme in Australia a few years back. It was quite successful. (No penalties for illegal weapons being handed in etc).
You can argue this until you are blue in the face, (haha) but the prevalence of easy to get guns does have an impact on the situation in America. Reduce the need for every righteous yank to want a gun to defend his 'freedoms' (which of course the gun is 99% useless against in all reality). Reduce the supply.
However, it is part and parcel all just a part of Americana, same with fast-food, religion, etc. You don't like it, fine you don't have to live or go there. I know I don't like spending much time there, however I love certain parts of it. You have the freedom to choose this. If Americans themselves want to keep the guns and try and find other ways to stem the high level of violent crime, good on them. It's a democracy (whatever that really means). I'm just happy I am not a citizen there, and if I was I would probably move away, or at least to a liberal state.
This is of course my opinion only, and I don't hold it against anyone else who might think differently, self freedoms being what they are and all.
It's just unfortunate that the average American is portrayed as white gun-toting trash, or conversely black gangster rappers. Much the same way Aussies are labeled hicks (or Steve Irwins) and not much else.
Move along now, nothing to see here. |

Absolutely amazing game this.
Platforming at it's greatest. I just wish it was longer, and it was fairly long to begin with. And yes every level introduces something new.
Also one word of advice, don't use any help/guides until you have completed the game. Just think logically and you shoul dget everything in a much more satisfying way. |

Aussie GTA IV console was cut in regards to sex (hookers), violence (a lot less blood) and maybe some slight dubbing changes (language).
Fallout only had it's drugs names changed.
I'll be really pissed if the aussie PC GTA has the censored console stuff back in. |

Well you actually can't play your game anywhere on steam, as it is region locked if so desired by the publisher. ie you bought it in russia when you were jetsetting about and suddenly aren't allowed to touch it when you get home, or you are price fixed into being gouged by being Australian (nothing new there).
Still... not exactly the best drm around.

Impulse doesn't sell The Witcher to Australians. How unfair is that. Me smells price fixing bullshit a la Ubisoft going on.
