#1. I'm pretty sure you were being sarcastic, but the sad story is that the boards are full with people who really judge like that. I still remember the days when people were positively enthusiastic about every new game that appeared, and only started bitching after a game has proven to be bad. Now there's swarms of wannabees who think its so damn cool to bitch.

This whole incident is pretty weird. I find it hard to imagine that a developer like ritual is neither willing nor able to fix animation problems. Hell, I can't even believe they'd deliver a final version with player models which don't even work properly. now ritual might not be the greatest dev team ever, but it really isn't THAT difficult to get this stuff running. Ritual isn't exactly unexperienced, look at Heavy Metal Fakk, or Elite Force2 .. even SiN which was actually a pretty fun game after the patches. visit this http://www.ritualistic.com/screens/cz/renders_characters_02.php page and you can actually see a direct comparsion between original cs and ritual characters. it very much speaks for itself. in the ritualistic forums you can also find hints which indicate that even those who worked on CZ, don't seem to quite know what's going on and why their work isn't used anymore. something must have gone pretty wrong here.

Term, These are neither the same textures nor the same models. in any case, ritual, or gearbox..it all looks better than the supposedly most current shots. Which is rather odd, cause either good artwork got canned for worse, or both is used which will make this whole game an extreme mixed bag . visually at least.
I migth add, that we were mostly talking about character models and textures. the wall texture set however, is without doubt the same in both screens.

>>These textures in this shot are mostly photosource, but still more professional looking than the cartoonish stuff in the Turtle screen... <
"still" ? since when is using photosource not professional? you need to use it nowadays in professional texturing, except when you go for a more cartoonish handpainted look ( which can be just great too, just a different style concept). furthermore, using photos isn't just " slap the pic on the model and go" it's actually not really much less work than handpainting stuff, if done properly.
Apart from that I totally agree with you and really am wondering how people look at things, cause in this case its just sp extremely obvious which models and textures are done better here. oh and btw.. "blurry" is in most cases only caused by lower resolution textures and has little to do with the artwork itself.

I was referring to the new shots when I said how can you get away with releasing such in 2003. not the ritual ones. anyway though, an outdated engine does not force you to do bad texturing and that green shirt guy on the screenshot is just done bad. nothing to do with the engine

Man, if that- http://csnation.counter-strike.net/image.php?id=21661 -seriously is what you call looking better than the shots on ritualistic, then you are in serious need of eye treatment. there were a couple more shots with that green shirt guy from your link and I thought they must be kidding. this model and particulary texture looks so poor it isn't even funny. How can you get away with releasing such low quality for sale? in 2003?? sure says nothing about the gameplay, but you were arguing about looks.

If it was ten years ago I just try to take it as being young and dumb. I'm sorry, I really don't want to sound so moral and paternalistic. I have a lot of humor, I love playing games with tons of gore and find it totally unsatisfying when I shoot the enemy in a game and it doesn't splatter gibs all over the place. I do enjoy movies ala Tarantino and I avoid churches like the pope avoids pornstars. But I do have deep respect for humans and life itself and certainly think the difference between artificial violence in games and movies and the one in real life against real people should always be a very clear line. jus my 2 cents and nevertheless thanks for your reply

that was a pretty pity "out of the blue". was it supposed to ne funny? cool? or what? I can only hope it was a joke. trying to physically hurt a guy who has the sorry job of getting shot for money is just really really poor.

actually, at first I was bugged by the missing jumping option too, but later when I came to think more about it, it does make the game more realistic ( why do we need realism in games anyway?). think about it, how many times do you jump up something? a hill? or even a barrel, a crate? you really jump on that? no, you simply climb. usually most of the times we only jump DOWN somewhere, or we jump if the book in a shelve is placed too high and we try to snap it. and then take a look what is the consequence of a jumping function in most online games: bunny hopping! uh.. very realistic. and you may notice that in LOS you can walk up even trees which are not straight up. a climb function may have been a good idea, but walking at least comes closer to climbing than jumping.

#17 no, I am not exactly an employee, but not too far away of that either anyway, I know they are really dedicated great guys and I also know how twisted this busines ( game development) can be. one advancement you sure should notice is the lighting of the engine. it's quite different compared to DD:PT, especially when you look at the models.
oh and about releasing outside the us. I can't agree more. I'm living in europe

there is nothing like that in the retail version. the ezpad thingy isn't even infogrames idea it's a fileplanet plague. but it would be quite a good idea, to mail complaints about this whole issue to infogrames, so they have to deal with it and hopefully decide a little smarter next time.
