I don't know why companies continue to rush to placate the perpetually offended minority (and it was a very small minority of people who complained about this, most of whom wouldn't have played PoE anyway.) The thing I find so ridiculous is that people were getting upset at Obsidian about this joke, yet this is the company that made South Park: The Stick of Truth, probably one of the most offensive (and designed that way) video games in recent memory and no one complained about that. The person who started this bandwagon too also proudly and unironically uses the hashtag #KillAllMen on a regular basis. And this is who Obsidian decided to side with, instead of the backers who made their game possible.

At the end of the day, it isn't a huge deal. I still have PoE as a backer reward and I don't plan to scream for a refund or anything. I personally will consider this should they ask for crowdfunding again though. If a handful of people for whom being offended is a hobby are more of an influence on you than your customers, your priorities are wrong.

It was changed voluntarily. IT WAS CHANGED VOLUNTARILY. IT WAS CHANGED VOLUNTARILY.

Oh look, another tempest in a teacup... Thanks Twitter!

I feel like that metaphor isn't even strong enough, since the whole basis for being "offended" at the text in question involves a hearty measure of assumption and personal bias (paranoia). I had to dredge through that thread to find the damn thing, but it's a tomb marker or something:

Here lies Firedorn, a hero in bed.

He once was alive, but now he's dead.

The last woman he bedded, turned out a man

And crying in shame, off a cliff he ran.

You can't even joke about unintentional gay sex anymore! Suddenly it's "transphobic misogyny." Rolleyes

Every sitcom ever has at least one joke about a straight guy kissing a dude in a dimly lit bar, his friends make fun of him and he's extraordinarily ashamed and embarrassed... But by 2015 PC standards, that's not allowed! You have to be PROUD of your interaction with what must have been a transexual.

In a world where people murder one another over that sort of misunderstanding, the joke is in somewhat poor taste. But look, what is the big deal here?

Guy writes joke.

People say to Obsidian, "Hey, that's kind of tasteless."

Obsidian says, "Oh, yeah, you're right." Tells initial authors, "Some people found that joke a little offensive. Do you want to change it?"

Authors say, "Oh, yeah, you're right. Here, use this instead."

...Internet explodes OMG PC OPPRESSION FREE SPEECH BLLAAAAARRGGHHH

So I wanted to play Pillars of Eternity but then I saw this.

Should I wait? (I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow for the patch since I'm in Germany)
Or can I play it anyway/are the bugs not so severe?

From the notes above it looks like if you are affected by any of the serious bugs, the patch will fix your saves. From other people on the forums, none of the bugs are really dealbreaking.

Well it is a full-price game, $60 in the US. If they went by the exact exchange rate, it ought to be $75 CAD.

Either way, that's why you wait for a sale!

And if I walk into a store here, I'll find the games priced at exactly the same as in the US. $49.99-59.99 so what's the excuse now? There is none, just pure fucking people.

Physical stores are slower to react to the fact that the CAD is only worth 0.80 USD currently?

They are reselling the version of the game with DX11 graphics they promised in the initial release with some different item and enemy placement and more text descriptions. And the graphics especially the shadows and lighting are still not quite what they showed in 2013. Also with graphics mods like GEDOSATO, you largely get the "better graphics" already in the DX9 version. To show you how much they give a shit, they are splitting the community between the DX11 and the DX9 version because those are not multiplayer compatible. They are largely just reselling the game. Oh did I mention that the single player save games are also not compatible and you have to start a new character? You need a chart to keep track of what you get and how much the "upgrade" costs based on what you bought previously. Fuck em.

I do think this should be a free upgrade. But it's a bit more than a DX11 upgrade. It's a 64-bit build, DX11, the entire game is supposed to be full of tweaks to enemy placement and text and NPCs. The multiplayer isn't going to be compatible because this version is going to have six-player multiplayer and whatnot, like the next-gen console releases.

I'm a big board game guy. I have about 40 or 50 and we play a few of them every week. Eclipse was on my list until I saw it listed for $135. I got Terra Mystica instead. Fantastic game.

If you mean this Eclipse, it is an amazing game. So good. Can't recommend strongly enough.

Stuttered here, quite a bit around the middle. Running on a GTX 980 with an i7 and 60 meg connection. No 4k monitor though. I'm wondering what systems are running this smoothly.

webm/vp9 in HTML5 is not going to be hardware accelerated (your GTX 980 doesn't come into it). It's fully unloaded onto the processor, which is why it runs poorly. Download it and run it in VCL and encode it in h264 and it'll run fine.

Do we have any screenshots of the improved graphics, yet?
I haven't bought any DLCs for the game yet, so I might be interested in this if it includes all DLC plus the graphics.

It includes all of the DLC plus graphics upgrades. Scholar of the First Sin is essentially the GotY edition+upgrades. I wouldn't expect much from the improved graphics, though.

The bigger enhancements are going to be things like altered enemy placements, changed bosses, some extra content, additional multiplayer capabilities.

DS2: Scholars includes the DLC, so it makes sense that it would cost less if you already own the game and the DLC.

Cool Steam Gauge article. Click a few pages, Binding of Isaac is pretty high on the list. Very happy for them. Killed CoD!!!!!

Kinda feel like their numbers for the F2P games must be completely broken, though. I've never even heard of most of the games they list.

Saw it in person. It looks very SupComish. They're even doing full LoS checking and ballistics. Which is great, because I loved SupCom.

For me, this looks like a chaotic micromanaging nightmare. But I'm sure other people better at RTS will appreciate this game
The game will feature meta-units to cut down on the micro. Assign a bunch of units to a meta, and then order around the fewer metas. All of the units within a meta will work together and take up appropriate positions to achieve that goal (arty will automatically go to the rear, etc).

Awesome. Got a huge SupCom vibe from the screenshots, and I am all for getting something new in the same lines. If they can really streamline the micro even better, I'm excited.

Specs on the entry level machine looks fine for living room play. I'm interested but will need to hear hands on accounts from people.

Yeah, the hardware and prices don't bother me. It's how stable Steam OS is and the Linux ports of all those games.

I haven't done anything craaaazy with it since I have a desktop to do most of my gaming, but I just bought a laptop with a 970M and installed Arch Linux and Steam. I fooled around with a bunch of games like Bastion and Braid and TF2 and everything has worked just perfectly so far. Pretty impressed with how smooth it is.

I'm sure there are bugs, but for casual use it seems to be about there.

Sonic welcomes being regulated as a common carrier. Too bad about the trojan "general conduct" horse in the bill which destroys freedom of speech on the Internet.

"The Internet is the most powerful and pervasive platform on the planet. It is simply too important to be left without rules and without a referee on the field." - Tom Wheeler, FCC chairman

"It is true that liberty is precious; so precious that it must be carefully rationed." - Vladimir Lenin

1) There's no bill. It's not legislation. It's just the FCC deciding how it's going to use the powers it already has.

2) The 'general conduct' thing has absolutely nothing to do with the content and/or people being served, and so has absolutely nothing to do with free speech. It's (an apparently unfortunately vague) set of rules that outline what sorts of traffic shaping and the like are permissible.

Biehn has got to be pretty old and leathery by now, I assume he'll be in a less action-oriented role if included at all.

GOG has now fallen to censorship. With the introduction of the German website, they also introduced a geolock. Some games are no longer available for German GOG customers. Way to go, GOG! This cherry has officially been popped. So, thanks GOG, it's been nice. Don't call me, I will call you.

Wow, really? That's really disappointing...

Yes, it's unfortunately true. So, GOG games are still DRM free, but the shop is no longer. Geo-lock is the beginning of the end. Further down the road, expect them to turn into just another online games platform (JAOGP instead of GOG). G2A must be quite happy about that!

Two games from our catalog had to be made unavailable in Germany: Commandos Ammo Pack and Commandos 2+3. Offering or promoting these games is considered a serious criminal offence according to German law, and we have to abide by this law to avoid the risk of serious legal action taken against GOG.com and GOG.com employees.

What do you guys want them to do? They're not a band of law-flouting activists; they're a company.
