Which is more likely, he says that smartphones will become hardcore platforms because he writes games for them, or he writes games for them because he believes this is the future? I think the later, or rather both.

That doesn't mean he's right. His central claim is that platforms like the PC have gone from casual to hardcore and his evidence for this is incredibly selective.

I don't think he understands the word hardcore, or the history of PC gaming, or anything.

I'm still trying to figure out why Holder hasn't been brought up on charges yet. Possibly the worse AG this country has ever had.

There's no doubt he's pretty bad, but we have had some awful AGs. Alberto Gonzales??

Yeah I REALLY hope the SP is not this twitchy...

I was kinda interested until I looked at this video. D:

Please stop. It's not even remotely witty and detracts from your otherwise valid argument.

I disagree. The arachnoid/crustacean-like imagery is an effective use of metaphor to describe Microsoft's behavior with this product. They are scuttling back to safety after overplaying their hand and being challenged. It's quite apt.

There's a cheap solution for the dishwasher problem, do them by hand. I've never had a dishwasher. I really don't understand the need for one unless you've got maybe 4+ people in your household.

I grew up with a dishwasher, but I haven't had one for the past... I dunno. Six years? I miss having one, every day.

That site is INCREDIBLY inaccurate, as you should expect from any site that tries to estimate total playtime. It says you should beat Skyrim in 31 hours, and GTA: San Andreas in 34, for fuck's sake! Averaging Steam users' playtime would be a much better metric to go by, than some third-party willy.

I have dozens upon dozens of games it says it couldn't find a number for, and so plugs in some bizarre "average time" of 10.84 hrs for a "main story" and 24.84 hrs for "completion" on every single one... That list includes Civilization IV and V, both of which I've played for hundreds of hours (so far), so how many other games would probably be more than 11/25 hours?

Overall pretty worthless except as another arbitrary metric to compare with others, like all of those "how much is my Steam library worth" or even "how many games haven't I played" measures.

It's a measure of how long it takes to beat the game, not how long can you spend running over pedestrians with no real purpose. Skyrim, GTA, and the Civs can easily be beaten in those amounts of time, with plenty of time for just screwing around.

I remember when I use to say that about Blizzard. How times have changed.

Funny that, I feel exactly the same way about Bioware, then EA got it's greedy little claws out.

When someone sells their private studio to EA/Bethesda/whomever, it means they don't really want to make games anymore. Bioware was already on a slide.

So another game I won't be buying on GOG.

What makes you say that? The original is on there.

Probably saying that because GOG doesn't support Linux (yet).

More than MS right now? Yes. Sony game us an option - I could (and still can) go totally digital, or I can keep buying discs. MS told us "this is how it's going to be". Fuck that, and fuck them.

I get what you're saying, and I feel the same way. I'm just trying to remind myself as much as anyone that this is still rootkit Sony. This is removal-of-OtherOS Sony. This is removal-of-backwards-compatibility Sony. They are pretty good at removing features/breaking promises/shady dealings.

Edward Snowden is showing himself to be rather weak-minded and easily provoked. This in addition to his actions making no sense (leaving beautiful girlfriend, fleeing to CHINA of all places).

CHINA. The bastion of freedom in the world. Seriously.

Perhaps, being badmouthed by an idiot like Edward Snowden means you're doing something right.

Protecting beautiful girlfriend by being nowhere near her when this goes down. Going to Hong Kong, which has a large amount of autonomy from China, and is strongly dedicated to free speech, and has an extradition exception for political crimes.

You're talking to the guys that think they're just complimenting women when they yell "SHOW US YOUR TITS" and "WILL YOU GO OUT WITH ME" when they meet them in a game. Or see them on youtube. Or pretty much anywhere that doesn't require them to actually talk to girls face-to-face. I think this is going to be lost on them.

Stereotype much?

Seriously. Why is it that people can't make a point or counterpoint without this immature 'You live in your mom's basement so no wonder you'd think that' crap?

I don't think the issue is as widespread and all-encompassing as some people make it out to be. Personally I don't think booth babes add much to E3. The women who do it don't really care about gaming. They care about getting paid. It's kind of a relic from the past that game companies hold onto because it's familiar I guess.

That said, I still don't buy into there being all these untold millions of female gamers just itching to get into the industry and play the same sorts of games traditionally played by males, only all the sexism is preventing them from doing so.

Considering that I've spent years fixing PCs and all the ones I've fixed for countless males and females alike, I can't name the last time I found anything resembling a hardcore RTS, shooter or RPG on a PC owned by a female. I've found plenty of Sims installations. I've found plenty of pointless casual games like Luxor, Bejeweled and Bubble Witch. But pretty much nothing in the realms of games that guys usually play.

So I guess my question is: Where are all the droves of gaming females we're offending in this industry?

Have you really never been playing TF2 or something and had the pleasure of listening to the way the guys act on voice chat as soon as they hear a female voice? Same in every other game too. Even if it's just a girly Steam userpic or username or whatever the hell.

I will totally buy that most of the ladies really just aren't into shooters and whatnot. But if you witness what happens to the ones that are into them? Holy shit. I would not doubt that the 'community' scares the vast majority of them either away from it entirely, or into hiding.
