I really wish I was having your luck. My G-Man at the beginning is a polygon mesh and all my npc's are invisible with only their wire mesh faces visible..... grrrr. Tried a lot of different ways to try fixing this but it just appears to be on their end.
If anyone here has these problems and fixes them, please post solutions here. Thanks.

Yes, I get a few textures that don't display properly, which completely sucks arse. I can't believe I'm having to look at that (it's really pretty bad) after all this waiting.
Also, anyone getting a "wire mesh" G-Man at the beginning? Didn't think it was supposed to be like that.

Hey I'm with you on this one S_DOG34. Not that I didn't enjoy Doom3, it was fun. But I much prefer realistic graphics and the screenshots I've seen definitely make a case for this being the best looking game ever.... to people who like realism, that is.

I have no desire to read through 140+ posts when I can easily ask (so all you "read first" peeps plz take it easy on me):
Does anyone know if they plan to fire up the authentication servers at 12:01am Tuesday morning?

My apologies Doc. I was aiming that for "hey I'm not stupid" and missed the mark. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've flamed someone. Too much beer is hell on the forums.

No, I know perfectly well what a street date is. And I'm very conscious of how the whole process works. I just didn't think I'd have to type a 10-page essay to get my point across because of some little pissant like you who only reads through these posts for a chance to flame someone. F*** off. Most people who read Blue's site know that release != shipping to retailers.
The only thing I was trying to say, and should have just typed a helluva lot more in the first place, was that VU is arguing semantics at this point. Saying that the game hasn't been released yet is bullshit otherwise we wouldn't be reading about people who have already purchased the game, would we?
I'm not confused about anything. And I hope you feel sooo much better since you've displayed such a fine understanding of the oh so complex process of releasing a game. What a douche.

Not released? |

That's total crap. I work in retail and we've had our copies of HL2 in our security room for about 3 days now. Don't say it isn't released when it really is. If you wanna just say, "We can't activate it right now because the street date is Nov. 16th," then fine.
Am I mistaken, or weren't we all already planning on waiting until Tuesday anyway???

Yeah, they dropped to $299 at BestBuy and a couple other places. Still pretty steep cause they know people will still pay for it.

it seems likely this will be a youth-oriented title It also seems likely that this will be a crap title, if their other excuse for a Tolkien-based game is any indicator.

I agree with Oblivion. It's not a great game, it's just an OK game. But, in fairness to those that don't agree, I can see how some people don't like it.
I just hope that they fix the EAX crash! This is one of the few games that I can tell a VERY noticeable difference with EAX enabled.... when it works, that is.

Easy there, trog. My Sarcasm Meter is starting to red-line here.
I agree. Exactly why are they only releasing it thru nvidia first anyway? It's not like the game is so graphics intensive that nvidia should want their "the way it's meant to be played" logo on it or something.

Is it just me, or does something seem a little screwy about this? I remember when the demo came out, they were size-conscious and wanted to keep it at or under 100MB. I guess they've since decided that size doesn't matter?
OCed_5150, I feel especially sorry for you and the rest of the non-broadband group because I just made the move to DSL. This should be evidence to you that they just don't care about the 56K'ers anymore.

I enjoyed playing the first DFBHD demo when it originally came out. I even recommended it to a friend. Being former military, I appreciate the attention to detail that is put into the tactical aspect of the game. But, the more I play it, the more DFBHD (or any other DF game) starts to feel like a poor man's UT2003 in terms of graphics, sound, and overall "feel" of the game. Granted, it is a demo, but it feels exactly like the other 4 (or 5?, don't remember) versions of the game did.
Novalogic is definitely going to have to try something new in those areas in order to remain competitive with current games that make use of better hardware (i.e. UT2k3, NOLF2, MOHAA).
Or, I could just be on crazy pills and be the only person tired of the same old, same old....

MyRealName, I assure you restraining myself wasn't easy. I clicked on his name prior to replying and I was trying for some kind of "Taming of Smeagol" kind of character reform in him...... trying in vain, I might add.

That was harsh wasn't it? But justly so.
My intention wasn't so much to complain about the .plan's content, but rather the expected performance of the FX versus the 9700 Pro. I'm curious what people think about the competition heating up since one of the leading minds in graphics has said that they are neck and neck.

To a certain point, I understood the article just fine. And then, BAM! Here comes the tech jargon. Not a bad thing at all, just too much for me. But, even though some of it was over my head, I was particularly intersted in the "For a typical consumer, I don't think the decision is at all clear cut at the moment," comment.
Will the GFFX get better with a new set of drivers? Or is it really just not what was expected? IMO, the choice is rather obvious, get the 9700 Pro and save huge $$$, especially when the R350 hits. Of course, I could be wrong.

Dude,
Either play the game, then bitch... or shut your hole. The more you keep having diarrhoea of the mouth about something you know nothing about, the more you show YOUR ignorance.
I honestly wouldn't have any problems with someone knocking a game that they've played. But you openly admit you haven't played it. That's the bottom line... all this other crap is immaterial. And you should at least consider the possiblity that not EVERYTHING is racially oriented. Do you seriously think that they sat down and said, "Let's make a game about the Sikhs and Dalits and expose them for the terrorists they are!" Give me a break.

it could just be a video game. Let it go. And if you have no interest in the game, why jump on the recall bandwagon??? The game is really good.
And I suppose that some defender of Iraq will now want a recall for the Desert Storm-based game, just because it also directly represents real-life characters? Give me a break. IT'S A GAME!!!!

Thought I'd throw my two cents in.... I love my 9700! I've had a GF4Ti4600, and I won't hesitate to tell someone that the 9700 is _by far_ the better card. I can't say that I know where all of these "bad driver horror stories" are coming from for the 9700's. Of course the 8500's had several problems, but this is a completely different story.
To nVidia's credit, I never had a single problem from my GF4, either. But now that I've seen how great ATI's latest monster is, it'd take a helluva NV30 to make me switch back.
