Well, maybe this is Valve's new technique for releasing games...After Steam, any method of release seems preferable....

These conspiracy theories drive me nuts. Why in the world would either company possible want to leak a playable build of HL2 or the source code when they have so much to lose if they get caught?

A little group of weeny hackers took the source code and released the playable build.

17. Re: Dear God... Oct 7, 2003, 17:09 Tim1_2

Well, after hearing that the delay could be up to six months, learning that there's a playable (albeit crappy) version of HL2 floating around, and enduring all this hype over the past couple of months, I don't blame anyone for wanting to get their hands on the illegal version.

Just remember to buy the game when it's released too....

#127: They didn't LOSE the source code, but someone obtained a copy of some of it and leaked it all over the bloomin' internet.

All these stupid conspiracy theories (including yours, FourPak) are braindead. There is source code out there, and there is a leaked playable version of Half-life 2 (although it's of shoddy quality apparently). There are screenshots from it, plus there's a HUGE amount of interest in the leak right now.

This is not an attempt by Valve to come up with an excuse for delaying HL2.

119. Game content leaked... Oct 7, 2003, 14:32 Tim1_2

Well, I was wrong, as I followed the posts on Planet Half-life. Now Planet Half-life has posted the following:

"While a complete beta of the game has not leaked, there is partial version with some actual game content floating around out there."

That's gotta be a pissoff for Valve. I saw some screenshots from the 'leak' on a website and it wasn't nearly "finished" quality. There were missing textures and stuff. Oh well....

52. Rumors Rumors... Oct 7, 2003, 11:44 Tim1_2

Ok, there is NO pre-release version of Halflife 2 floating around...that is a statement made on planethalflife, and I'm inclined to believe them, being PLANET halflife and all. Oh, and this will delay Half-life 2 a little, not a lot, but we may be looking at an early 2004 release date.

All this crap and whining is totally Valve's fault for scheduling Half-life 2 for a Sept. 30th release date. Jeezus. Everybody and their dog knew that HL2 would not be shipped on the 30th of September. Just take a page outta id's book and tell us that we'll be playing it when it's done.

I even stole the source code for Blue's News and that didn't even tell me what the Play Time is. Must be some sort of new HTML encoding....

44. Prolonging the delay... Oct 4, 2003, 19:53 Tim1_2

The only thing I really care about in this whole mess is the fact that this very well will delay Half-life 2 even more.

Heeheeehee...Yes, a one-day delay seems pretty reasonable considering some recent delay issues. I'm not naming any names. Anyone know what the half-life of nitrogen is?

Please tell me that no one is ACTUALLY surprised by this bit of "news."

Tell me when a game actually is in stores on its release date...now THAT would be news!

Sounds like there's not much of a difference between 2003 and 2004. Disappointing if true.

Yeah, I actually bought the game for PC, and it was really, really fun. Played it through twice actually. I'm going to be pissed if the sequel isn't released on PC, but then somehow not surprised.
