Joe Schmoe |

Joe Schmoe is one of the greatest shows on TV. I have been absolutely hooked since the first episode, and am dying for tonight's final episode, and then the post-interviews with Matt. They couldn't have picked a better person than Matt to be Joe Schmoe...the guy is absolutely hilarious. I think he'll take the 'deception' in stride. He got awesome character.
Oh, and RIP Rod Roddy. I've been listening to that guy since I was born. The Price is Right will never be the same.

As someone pointed out, I am in Canada and MP2 came to $75 with tax.
So if a game was half an hour long and cost $100, but it was the coolest game ever, it should still get 90%+ reviews? No! People buy games based on reviews (some people anyway), and every review I've read goes on and on about how Max Payne 2 is so great. It's not only the short length that pisses me off, it's the fact that not a whole lot has changed since MP1. Sure, the graphics look a little nicer and the physics are improved, but that's it.
I'd give MP2 70%. It's a good game, just not great.

I doubt that Steam will have to check every time you launch a single-player game to see if it has all the newest content. When you do connect to Steam it'll probably check for new content, but it won't be necessary for just playing offline.... That's my take on the situation.

Max Payne 2 Reviews |

I'm absolutely sick of all the glowing Max Payne 2 reviews. It's obvious the reviewers didn't have to shell out cash for the game, otherwise they'd feel cheated. Six hours of gameplay? I paid $75 for six hours of gameplay? I'd of rather bought a couple cases of beer for two days of drunkeness.

Vietcong...NOT scripted? c'mon, for chrissakes unless you follow certain paths and do certain things, the game breaks and you stand around for 10 minutes until you realize you have to start the level over cos you missed "the trigger" somewhere...
First of all, I never missed a 'trigger' which forced me to reload the game. Second, it wasn't scripted in that the enemies didn't follow specific attack paths. Again, some of the larger-scale battles in Vietcong could take so many different paths that it's impossible to script them.

Operation Flashpoint used extensive scripting on the single-player campaigns.
I don't buy that. The large-scale battles could take such different paths that scripting just wouldn't handle.

OFP was also small scale in it's engagements, relative to MOHAA or what Call of Duty appear to be aiming for.
Are you joking? Operation Flashpoint was not small in its engagements. A couple of the stand-alone missions for it had to taking a squad of 10 guys against an enemy of like 40! It's definitely bigger than what MOHAA and CoD are going for.

Professional - I thought that Vietcong was a somewhat convincing wargame (albeit on a smallish scale), and it wasn't scripted. Oh and Operation Flashpoint was a very convincing wargame without being scripted. Just to use examples....

How big a collection? Well I had to delete some to fit Max Payne 2 on my computer. And I've got a 120GB drive....
Edit: And just so you know, I've got it all categorized for your viewing pleasure.

I don't know if I'd call the game retarded, and I *did* feel it could be longer (just beat it, probably 6-7 hours total). It's hard to justify the shortness of this game for the big price tag, when games like Counter-strike have offered me hundreds of hours of fun for free. Vietcong offered tons of gameplay + multiplayer, and it was cheaper. I realize the production values of MP2 are higher, but I do feel slightly cheated...like this was only an expansion pack. I mean, the only things different from MP1 to MP2 were the storyline and the physics. Just cuz I can shoot the same bad guys again and have them fall realistically over the barrel behind em doesn't mean I wanna pay $75 (Canadian) for that experience. I was expecting more. Well, now it's obvious why MP2 came out "quickly" compared to other anticipated shooters - it's got 6 hours of gameplay and not a whole lot of improvements/additions/changes.
Anyway, I still enjoyed my run through it (not as much as I would've liked, but anyhow). The story still seems a little too cheesy and a little too ridiculously told for my tastes. I'd give MP2 about 7/10.

Holy hell. This isn't a big deal. As I said earlier in a post of mine, STOP the bitching about Steam and Valve. We all are gonna buy Half-life 2 and use Steam, which isn't really that bad anymore. Just move on people.
Go have sex.
