Eh.. after installing the patch, Q3 became choppy. Other people on several other servers are now having the same problem.

I agree, for the most part, with #81. I also think it's retarded that some people are trying to make gaming a sport. On the other hand, I do think Q3 takes more skill than Q2. With Q2, people would just load up the chaingun and mow everyone down. The rockets and pulse shots were slower than tar, so hitting someone that know's how to avoid a little rocket splash could be difficult since all they had to do was walk out of the way. I think Q3 did everything just right. With that said, however, I am still very open to new games.
I think the demo would've been better received if Epic had included a few more maps, maybe 6 maps total, of varying sizes, from very large for the big games, to very small for 1v1. Or better yet, maybe 2 maps per gametype. They've got 50 or so maps to choose from, I don't think including a couple more would've hurt them.

It's probably lag that's causing the players to teleport around. Every server is kind of crappy that I've played on so far. I really enjoy getting into lightning gun fights with traditional UT campers, like in the CTF map. They just stay at the top of the base and don't move even when being fired at.

After playing for a few hours, I've come to my conclusion on this game.
1) I like the increased speed, as slow FPS are pretty boring.
2) The graphics look nice, and I really like the sci-fi look of everything. I really don't want to play in "realistic" places when I'm playing a game like this. I'll let BF1942 and CS take care of that for me.
3) Player physics seem kind of flakey. I was hoping the characters would have some sort of weight to them like they do in Q3, but they still feel like paper dolls floating around.
4) The weapons look cool, and I really like how they dumbed down the shock rifle. In UT, any retard could constantly do the shock combo down a hallway and get mass kills while thinking they're a skilled player. The lightning gun is a great replacement for the sniper rifle. It was really lame playing in a very open map with 5 members of the other team constantly sniping due to their inability to kill in a real fight, and then not knowing where their shot came from. All the people that are bitching about the lightning trail are just people with no skill. Now if they miss their precious shot, they're dead. Other than that, I don't like most of the weapons. They still feel like spam weapons that aren't very accurate (except for the shock and lightning gun).
5) People on servers are still just shooting random crap down hallways and into holes where they thinks someone might be in hopes of getting a kill.
6) The announcer is pretty lame. I hate how CPL is influencing Epic make their video game more sport-like. Sure, tournies are ok, but it's starting to get out of hand now. I can't believe they'd what they did to the announcer just to put their hand down CPL's panties and get their game played.
7) I like how they added the triangles above teammates' heads. I noticed a lot of UT people were complaining about that, but it really helps after you get used to it.
8) Double jump was a bad idea. Maybe if there were some double jump boots or something that you had to get before you could do it, then it would be ok, but with everyone being able to double jump from the start, it makes for some dumb looking scenarios.
Overall, I think the demo is somewhat fun, but I really don't see it replacing any games that are already out there with established hardcore fanbases. If you look on the All Seeing Eye, you'll see that more people are still playing Q3 than the original UT, but not by much. Both of those games are still very popular and are going to be around for a while longer. This comment was edited on Sep 14, 11:23. |

---------------------- Troll said: Actually, one could play UT2003 at the ECTS London a few weeks ago at both the Intel and nVidia stands.
I still prefer Q3A simply because the player movement speed in Unreal is a bit too fast for my taste -- do I just have this subjective feeling or are they really faster?
Of course the animation of the players' legs have no relation to the actual locomotion in either game. :-/ ----------------------
I think UT2k3 is a bit slow compared to Q3. I had to increase the gamespeed to 110% for it to be a bit more playable.

I really don't care about Africa, and I really don't think Nestle has the power to make african women not stick their tits in their babies' mouths.
Africa has nothing to do with UT2k3. It's retarded that it was even brought up. People come to this site to talk about games. If there was a mass concern about Africa's poverty levels, I'm sure there would be a forum dedicated to it, or better yet, Epic would make a first person shooter about Africa's poverty! That would be cool! Instead of adrenalin pills, you get AIDS medicine, and you the link up gun is your syringe. Then instead of airstrikes like in RTCW, you could do UN food drops via airplane.
Africa owns the AIDS scene and Epic owns the deception scene. Don't get them mixed up. Now give me some video games.
