Unlike in an MMORPG, where you have to keep your subscription going month after month and cannot cancel or you lose your characters that you worked so hard developing/farming. Most MMORPGs wont delete your characters when you stop paying the fee, they just don't let you play. They know a lot of people just want to take a break, and keeping their characters alive is a great way to get them to come back after a few months, or even a year.

GW vs WoW - Graphicwise, my opinion is that GW has technically better/higher quality graphics - they do some nice tricks with 2d/3d model swapping to make the draw distance really impressive. However, I like the overall feel of the world better in WoW. WoW feels more like a persistent world, and GW feels more like a bunch of levels strung together, albeit gorgeous levels. WoW has the best interface I have ever used. All the icons and avatars are really high quality and theres tons of variance among them. Every single piece of the interface is a pleasure to view. The GW interface is ok, but not as nice as WoW. It's annoying to go to a vendor and have to look at a scrolling text list of your items for sale or purchase. In WoW, you can buy and sell directly out of your bags using the visual icons you see. GWs ability to teleport instantly to any city you have visited is nice, and reduces a lot of travel time, but it also takes away from the scope of the world. It's not a bad thing, just different.
If you aren't into PvP that much, (I don't care for it) then GW plays like a Single Player RPG with just enough MMORPG in it to make it interesting. Bustling hubs with plenty going on where you can grab a few real players to quest with, or even recruit adequate AI to play alone.
If you absolutely don't want to pay a monthly fee, then GW is your game. I highly recommend it. But I also recommend WoW as a good starting full-blown MMORPG, or even one for veterans to come over from other games. My wife and I have both played Lineage2, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, Saga of Ryzom, Matrix Online, Everquest 2, (and of coure GW), and GW and WoW are the only ones we actively play. Been playing WoW for over 6 months now, and we aren't tiring of it one bit. We have 4 chars each that we play, and in 6 months we haven't done the grind ONCE. WoW is highly recommended. We've also been lucky though, with absolutely no game crashing bugs that some others are experiencing.
Anyways...I can recommend GW as well as WoW. But go for WoW if you don't mind 15 bucks a month.

You don't bother to help other people if they're getting attacked by opposite faction because other than the new honor system points, there's absolutely no incentive. While there may not be a tangible incentive in the form of XP or cash, there is the satisfaction of interacting and helping out another faction member. Granted, that satisfaction will vary among players, but I quite enjoy it. I play on a PvE server, so I don't have to worry about the stealth ganking of arriving wind-rider passengers, but I can engage in PvP at my leisure. I don't really mind that I dont get an XP bonus for healing someone or a bonus when someone uses the bandages that I sold. Some of us just enjoy hearing "thanks, that worg almost killed me!" Who is the true Paladin, the one who heals for XP, or the one who heals (or even sacrifices himself) to simply help his fellow man?

Plus your laser or whole xbox will probably burn up in a year or less anyway and then your screwed. Replacing an entire Xbox costs 150.00 new. And thats if you dont have the no-questions-asked replacement guarantee that you can get most places now (I invoked that a year a go and got a new xbox for nothing more than the 25 bucks I put into the warranty) That's a little less screwed than having to replace even one part of a decent gaming PC like 1GB of ram or Heaven's forbid, having to replace my 6800GT.
I have an awesome gaming PC, and still elected to get the Xbox version. Sometimes its not about what system it runs better or looks better on...sometimes its about what I'll enjoy it more on. I enjoy playing GTA from the comfort of my couch, plain and simple.
And BTW, the 'darkside' to me means enjoying playing both console and PC, and not focusing on just one. I wasn't trying to get you to abandon your KB/M, just trying to get you to not let it restrict what games you can enjoy! Game on!

don't understand how anyone can play an FPS or anything on those worthless button ridden inaccurate peices of crap, when will they learn that the mouse and keyboard are far superior to the fumblestick. Knowing it's superior has nothing to do with learning to use a gamepad. I know the KB/M combo gives quicker control, but that doesn't keep me from adapting and learning to use a gamepad when I need to or want to. Gamepads are as "accurate" as the mouse for aiming in FPS. They just aren't as "quick". There's a difference. Like anything, there's a learning curve. You are either willing to learn it, or you aren't.

All people would do is wait for a plane to fly instead of actually trying to help their team win. What a crappy design for a multiplayer game. I wouldn't chalk that up to crappy game design. Smacktards have a way of ruining any game. I've played on plenty of BF1942 servers with *players* that offered a great experience. Anyone can ruin a session if they don't want to play within the spirit of the game.

As much as I hate crapping on other gamers...I'm kinda glad they don't have co-op. Makes my EA boycott sting a little less!
Totally sucks though, for those that were looking forward to it. And yes...I know...the AI in BF1942 sucked...blah blah...it had it's place in small LAN parties and it will be missed.

Is it because they are originally console gamers? Not sure why that really matters...but depending on age, I would suspect a lot of folks were possibly console gamers first. Anyone who had an Atari 2600 or a Sears Brand Pong machine before they had a PC (which could be a lot of people) would be console gamers before home computer gamers. My first electronic gaming was done on a home built (by my father) computer that ran CP/M operating system back in 1974 - playing games like SuperZap, Hunt the Wumpus and Colossal Cave, so I guess that makes me a home computer gamer, originally. But again, not sure why that really matters.
For the record...I loved playing BF1942 co-op. Same reason as most others...fun for LAN parties. Too bad I'm still holding fast to my EA boycott.

How's Britney's or Episode III's popularity any indication of quality? While I can't argue with that statement, I never called RBR's quality into question. I merely stated the popularity numbers.
Try RBR and that'll shut you up real quick Hmmm....I just downloaded the demo and played for a bit. I have to admit, it seems like a *quality* game. No argument there. And there's no question that it's representation of Rally racing is leaps and bounds ahead of TOCA2. Problem is, I didn't really enjoy playing it. I'm a casual race gamer, and much prefer the arcade feeling of TOCA2 (or even Rallisport 2) to RBR. But I can recognize that RBR is a quality game. I wouldnt call it dog^%%t just because I don't like it.
While TOCA2 definitely doesn't fall into the hardcore sim category like RBR does, I'm not so sure that warrants calling the game a piece of crap. Granted, thats just my opininon (and the opinion of a lot of other folks).
Anyways...RBR is a quality game that I would definitely recommend to harcore sim rally fans. And I will continue to play and recommend TOCA2 to casual race fans that want a "buffet" style of racing to choose from.

Doesn't matter what it covers if it doesn't get a single one right. Guess we just don't share the same opinion. From a casual enjoyer of race games, TOCA2 is like a one-stop-shop for all my racing needs. I'm not a hardcore racing fan, so I can't comment if it didn't get any of the race types "right" as compared to the real thing. But I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed playing TOCA2 from start to finish. And for me that's what matters. I had fun with it. Money well spent for me.

I don't see how it covers all aspects of racing, though - hasn't TOCA always been about racing on tarmac circles? Ok, maybe I should have said many forms of auto racing. Obviously it didnt have footraces or horseracing Toca2 did have Rally racing, as well as 18 Wheeler cabs, StockCar, IndyCar, etc...it covered lots of different types as opposed to, for example, only Nascar or only rally.

Isn't this the one that will be early, no doubt to features being cut and budgets running out sooner than expected? Amazing...a game is slated to come out early, and someone complains about THAT. Oh well.
And, you have to REGISTER with their site to see the screenshots! Actually you only have to register to DOWNLOAD files, such as a zip of screens, but you can still view screenshots on their site without registering.
'Fraid not. http://www.richardburnsrally.com Hey, look at this...Toca2 PC has an overall gamerankings rating of 85.5% and Richard Burns Rally PC has one of 79.4%
Of course, that's really comparing two different race games...one that covers all aspects vs one that covers only rally. But still...OLOLOLOLOL

As for the gameplay, it's hard to say where GR is supposed to be. That's an extremely well thought out statement...which will probably be totally ignored by those who just simply HATE consoles.
Me, I love 'em both. I love my $2000 PC game machine as much as my $150 dollar Xbox. Can't wait for Xbox360!

Standing firm in my EA boycott. Haven't bought or rented an EA game since the original NFL exclusivity announcment.
I could care less about the sports games...but there's a handful of EA games that I'd really like to play. Not buying Battlefield 2 is going to be hard.
I know a boycott is pretty much useless. There's droves of people who don't even know who or what "EA" even is. I just really, *really* despise them for doing this. It's too bad the general sports game buying public has no idea how EA has hurt them.

You never get to demo MMORPGs? I beg to differ. Most have an open beta test immediately before release, which might as well be called a demo
But I think waxthirteen was referring to a general running demo. One available all the time, not just at beta time. For example...I play WoW alot right now. Love it. Have no intention of switching to anything anytime soon. However, am I curious to see what EQ2 is like? Of course. (and this isn't a request to slam or praise EQ2 or Wow) Id love to try out EQ2 for a day or two...but I'm not going to drop 50 bucks just to test it out. I know the logistics are hard in offering a free trial sometimes (SWG is doing it right now) but it would definitely be nice to be able to trial an MMORPG at my leisure, and not just at open-beta with 9 million people trying to DL the client at the same time.
