News Comments > Bet on Soldier MP Demo
2. Re: No subject Sep 14, 2005, 10:43 Geese

Oh I know. I can, in rare circumstances allow starforce on my system for a game I really want to play (Domination comes to mind). But for a demo? No thanks. The second that starfoce logo showed up, after I groaned loudly, I uninstalled the demo and ran the sfclean util. Congrats. You got me to delete the demo before even playing.

21. Re: Blah blah blah Sep 14, 2005, 09:58 Geese

I seriously thought that I was the only person who found it to be a chore rather than a decent game after the honeymoon period wore off.

Isn't that pretty much the case with any MMORPG? I think alot has to do with one's outlook for the game. If your intention from the start is to get that Lev60, then sure, it could all seem like a grind, and when you finally get there you find there isn't a lot of content to keep you occupied. I undestand that. But what about the trek to 60? Did none of you enjoy that? What's wrong with playing to 60 and then quitting?

Those of you saying WoW has a lack of content, please educate me. I've only ever played WoW, Lineage2, Guild Wars, CoH, EQ2 trial, and a handful of freebies. What other MMORPG out there offers more content than WoW? Is there actually a game out there that has you 6 months into the game doing something totally different than you were doing when you started? (not saying WoW does) Aren't *all* MMORPGs sort of content limited?

Nothing besides my wallet. My wife and I been playing for over a year now (including beta time), and enjoying every minute of it. We're not heavy PvPers, so all the talk about it being a broken PvP game haven't really concerned us.

I don't recall seeing a dance pad game for any Nintendo system either.

(scroll down to Family Fun Fitness) - It's not a dance game, but it's definitely a dance-style pad.

And don't forget the U-Force, where you waved your hands sort of wax-on, wax-off style in front of a peripheral that looked like a laptop.

16. Re: preorder stores? Sep 8, 2005, 15:37 Geese

If you pre-order a game, a demo of the game comes out after you pre-order it but before it ships, you hate the demo, can you cancel the pre-order w/o penalty?

At least for EBgames and Gamestop, they allow cancelling pre-order without penalty. It's no different than returning the game before it's opened. Pre-ordering also doesn't necessarily mean pre-PAY in full. EBs and Gamestops normal pre-order policy is $5 dollars refundable pre-order payment. (EDIT) - this is their IN-store policy. I would assume you have to pre-pay in full when ordering online. But the return/cancel policy would still be the same.

Two separate responses:

The puzzles were often very obtuse and not really connected to anything.

I think at first glance that appeared to be the case, but after getting into the game a bit, you start to see that the puzzles really did have a purpose on the island, and what they were connected to.

What I didn't like about the Myst games was the way they kinda threw you to the wolves after an introduction - you didn't know the rules, you didn't really know what you were supposed to do w/ all this stuff. And you were on your own...

That's understandable, but also one of the reasons that I liked the game so much. I agree that it was possibly a bad implementation for non-adventurers. Some people may have gotten turned off after wandering for 30 minutes thinking "this is just a 50 dollar slideshow". People willing to put a little more time into exploration and experimentation were rewarded with a now-classic adventure. But yeah, I see what you are saying.

Geese - admitted Myst basher when it was originally released, soon after Myst convert

sorry to say I have never played a Myst game (or any Adventure game now that I think about it)

Well, assuming that wasn't a flame in sheeps clothing...might I recommend Syberia, Myst 4, Longest Journey...all great adventure games, all have downloadable demos, and all are bargain bin if you decide to buy.

Oh, and if anyone was wondering what kind of game this is... You get unlimited ammo, don't need to reload, and get auto-recharging health. Yeah. Arcade XBOX shooter.

Hey hey...easy there fella. This was a nice debate about how shitty or not Heinlein and Verhoeven are and how shitty or not this PC game is. No need to try and drag XBOX into it. By the way, what XBOX shooter gives you unlimited ammo, no need to reload and autocharging health?

This is why I threw out my BnW copy, (didnt have room in my luggage either ) cuz there was not a single multiplayer server out there when I got it.

Then get some friends (or a wife, like I did) that will play multiplayer with you.

As for the single player story, boring as hell.

An opinion not shared by me and my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed SP, when it wasn't crashing. That was my only real gripe about the game.

But here's the odd thing: it doesn't look any better, really, than Morrowind did a handful of years ago. Look at the screenshots offered recently - it almost looks like a Morrowind conversion project.

Ok, I just got done playing the Myst 5 demo and I *kinda* see what you are saying now. M5 looks like perhaps a hybrid of Real Myst and Myst 4. The scenes, while not as detailed and vibrant, do allow for the "walking" animation between nodes. I just really like the Myst universe, so I'm looking forward to this when I finish up Myst 4. Definitely think it looks WAY better than Morrowind, but I can see where you are coming from.

Huh? When did Morrowind *ever* look as good as any of the static Myst games?

We're all hardcore, we're supposed to hate this, aren't we?

I know what you mean. Back when the first Myst came out (around the time when CDROMS just started to become popular) I blasted it as some lame attempt to showcase the ability of a CDROM to display pretty pictures. When I finally brought myself to play it, I was surprised what a good adventure game it actually was. I'm actually in the middle (well beginning) of playing Myst 4 right now...and glad that the next one is around the corner.

...is that when you sucessfully kill a Jedi you set him back up to 450k xp which takes about 1-4 hours to make up depending on how skilled of a grinder you are. The game simply kicks ass.

Losing XP and grinding. Definitely the top two things I look for in a kick ass MMORPG. - I wonder, (serious question) is the enjoyment one gets out of setting someone back 4 hours of gameplay the same type of enjoyment that TeamKillers get during FPS games?

mindless shoot'em up

No more mindless than Call of Duty or Doom or pretty much any "shoot em up".

with boring identical interiors

Ok, agreed. Although the earth level from the tank/bridge sequence all the way to fighting the spider-mech was awesome fun.

and no coherent plot

Huh? I followed the plot quite well. Not exactly happy with the abrupt "lets leave some content for Halo 3" ending, but it definitely wasn't incoherent.

D'you really think conversion to 3d and physics is going to make this a different game?

Well considering that 2d is different than 3d, and no physics is different than having them...YES.

But I understand what you are saying. It's just a new paintjob on an old turd, and the core gameplay is still the same. But the time period is different, the storyline and campaign will be new, and of course based on the new time period, there will be different units. But even if that weren't the case, I'd still play it, because it's a solid game, and a new graphic and physics engine would be nice to play it with.

Granted, it's not revolutionary or groundbreaking, but the "same old game"? Ehh..to each his own obviously.

To date every console released has been with bare bones features. 1 Wired controller, 1 set of A/V cables, and 1 power cord. This isn't any different.

Oh, you are absolutely correct. I just meant that I was hoping the hard drive wouldn't be an "accessory" and would be an integral part of the system. - and was also hoping to see the high def cables be the norm, and make regular A/V cables be a separately purchased option. As long as they stay with 1080i widescreen as their required default for games, I'll be happy.

Wow, what a detailed explanation.

in other words attack roles were just to advanced a concept for them

Oh please, stop it. I'm tired of PC Elitist talk that blankets any one who plays a console as being somehow retarded. Your example doesn't even make sense. Can you please point me to a reference (meaning not a forum where a bunch of guys sit around and blindly bash console users)for said issue?
