If you don't like Westwood or Generals, don't even talk!

I like both Westwood AND Generals. Too bad I simply abhor EA right now. Until their idea of competiton changes from "legally restrict other developers from making good games" to good old-fashioned "make a better product", no game carrying the EA name will get one penny of my money.

Start a business, then come back and tell us that you don't think 30% of your clientelle having issues is not "a large majority". BTW, you are still miss quoting me. I said "a large majority". Not "a majority". It is a subtle difference in phrasing that is used quite commonly in the english language. While it may not actually be the dictionary definition of "majority", it is an undertood phrase to mean "a large number".

And you keep misrepresenting what I've been saying all along. When did I say that 100,000+ people wasn't a lot of people? You keep inferring that I don't think thats a lot of people. I defintely do. YOU are the one who first said that the error-free people are a "fortunate few". You make it sound like the people having no problems are "few". Is this also a commonly used phrase to mean "a lot"?

You know what....whatever. I'm done. You win. Go ahead and use "large majority" to mean "a large number" instead of what it really means. I've said my piece like 5 times and Im sure most people were bored to death of me after my first post. Whatever.

I'm going to shut up now and go back and play WoW on my lag-free server. Feel free to flame away.

When we are talking about close to a million subscribers I would call 30% a large marjority, and appearently Blizzard agrees.

Maybe I'm just a rube. I don't understand how 30% of anything can be considered a majority.

I'll say it AGAIN. I agree that there are problems with WoW. I'll even use what you said in your last response. I agree that there are widespread problems in WoW. There, I said it. There is no denying that 100,000+ users with issues is a BIG PROBLEM. But in what world is 30% considered a majority? (please, no Bush/Gore jokes here)

What amazes me is that muliple times you have accused me of denying that there are issues with WoW, which is so far from the truth. I have NEVER denied that there are problems. I only said that *I* didn't have them. You repeatedly debate your side defending against a stance that I never took. Talk about someone who is unable to debate the facts.

You have zero lag in the Auction House? Im sorry, but do you honestly think this problem isn't widespread when the maintanence today is specifically to resolve this issue?

Blinders I tell ya, blinders.

Have you not read my/our posts? First...I said more than once that I recognize there are problems. Second...I said that if 100,000 people are having a problem then YES, that needs to be addressed. Third...I was merely pointing out that YOU said that people who are not having problems are in a little group affectionately called the "fortunate few". Fourth...you use your own statistics to state that 100,000 out of 800,000 are having problems. Your own facts don't match what you are saying. You are trying to make it sound like the MAJORITY of people are having problems, and that is simply not the case.

At no point have I said that I do not think the problems exist. I am not the one who effectively said that 7 out of 8 people is a "fortunate few".

I understand the problems some are having. I understand how frustrating it is. I understand that it seems like (and maybe really is the case) that Blizzard is ignoring you. I understand all that and sympathize. But its just not right to state that people having an error-free experience constitute a minority.

I sir/ma'am, am not the one wearing blinders.

Have either of you spent any time in the Auction House at all? It's a lag fest, almost 24/7. People are losing items and money due to database errors. You going to tell me this is only a small problem?

Yes. I've spent plenty of time at the Ironforge auction house, and have never experienced the lag you speak of. I have been on raids where people will say "make sure you turn your graphical settings down or you will lag" - I never turn them down, and even with 30 people firing off spells, I have yet to experience the lag people speak of. I hung out for New Years celebration in IF (ugh...how sad is that!) and with 50+ people firing spells, dancing, emoting, and AUCTIONING nearby, I never experienced lag. Maybe I have a good computer or a good connection. I don't know.

Again, not saying those problems dont exist. Just stating the fact that neither me nor my wife have experienced them.

this is 100,000+ and on a game with a subscriber base of around 800,000.

700,000 happy players is hardly a "fortunate few"

Just because you have been one of the fortunate few to not have many problems doesnt mean they don't exist.

And just because you guys are having problems doesn't mean that the majority of people are as well. I don't think its fair to say that there are a "fortunate few" people that are having an error-free gaming experience with WoW. If 10,000 people are having issues (and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying thats NOT a problem...it definitely is) but if 10K have a problem, then that tells me possibly 90K are having a great time. (I just threw those #s out...anyone know what WoW's subcriber base actually is?)

Again, I recognize the game has problems and people have real issues. But I disagree that the *majority* of people are having these issues.

We are talking about WOW here not the second coming right? WOW is not that good. It's not the greatest MMORPG ever and you got to be a tool to spend that kind of money on it. A complete tool.

Uh...I don't think many people here will disagree that the CE is outrageously priced at 150 bucks, but thats EB's doing, not Blizzard's. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it either. But it *is* the best MMORPG the *I've* ever played. Say what you want, it won't change the fact that both me and my wife are enjoying every minute of WoW. I won't challenge the issues that others are having. Sad to hear that...but I haven't run into one single problem with WoW - EDIT (ok, I haven't run into a single problem in WoW that I had to call Cust Service about or complain in forums about)

I would suspect a big reason for us loving WoW is that we really haven't played a lot of MMORPGs. I haven't yet become jaded with the genre. While MMORPG veterans may be able to see the flaws in the game, I think the average casual player may not, and can just enjoy WoW for what it is.

But yes, the "special pet" and the making of DVD don't add anything to the game...but they also don't take anything away from it either.

Just for the record, in your opinion, what IS the greatest MMORPG ever?

Are you referring to the Myst franchise in general? Myst (1) was the best selling PC game of all time prior to 'the Sims' - If you are referring to Myst 4 specifically...then possibly you are right.

I thought 1 and 3 were really great...can't comment on 2 (riven) since I never played it.

A good crpg should be solo, should be without npcs grouping to form parties and should not be coop or have any multiplayer.

I hope you meant that in jest. Do you truly believe it SHOULDN'T be co-op? Come on! Think about it. The first real (good) CRPGs were D&D world conversions. Pen and Paper D&D is MULTI-player co-op. So the co-op CRPGs of today more closely model PnP DnD than a single player one ever could, just from the mere fact that you are questing with REAL people who make their own decisions, as opposed to you making the decisions for 4 other people in your party.

Don't get me wrong. There were/are some great SP CRPGS...but thats just an outrageous statement to make that a good one SHOULD be SP only.

Owned. I hope this signals the demise of MMORPGs and the beginning of a new single player CRPG rennaissance.

There's still something to be said for a good MMORPG experience. I primarily play WoW like a single player RPG (or at least a LAN based one). I typically only party with my wife and we play thru the quests together. I don't typically like partying with others, but there is still something cool about having someone (a real player) come over and help you out of a jam or you doing the same for them. Is this type of experience worth an extra 15 bucks a month? Can't answer for others...but it is for me and my wife. Morrowind was really cool, but there was something sort of sterile about it, since there were no "living" players in the game with you.

I have yet to find a MMORPG where I feel like I'm constantly moving.

Same for me until I started playing World of Warcraft. I have a lev 20 character and have YET to grind. I have received 90% of my XP from quests or killing incidental mobs during quests. Obviously this could change as my level rises, but based on the amount of gameworld I've explored ( less than 25percent ), I would say that grinding is not necessary in WoW. I've been getting new spells/abilities almost every level, so it's always fresh. I always have anywhere from 5-10 quests active at any time. Best MMORPG I've ever played.

Roach...sorry for the ambiguity. I actually have both the PC and Xbox versions (got the PC version as a pack in with a Video or Sound card...cant remember which). I guess what I was getting at is that I got the impression that PC people felt the game wasn't as impressive as the Xbox owners did, possibly for reasons like you mentioned (video not performing as well). The game runs much smoother on the xbox where its only in 640x480 (which looks great on an HDTV from 5 feet away). I played MP on the PC and kind of felt like you did. The whole experience was much more rewarding on the xbox. (its not that often I like a specific game on a console *better* than I do on the PC)

And the map that came with the demo wasn't really fun at all. Perhaps other people did like it? Am I missing something?

I think I've seen more complaints about the PC version than I have about the Xbox version. Been playing the Xbox version since last March, and it's still a great multiplayer game. I think the game was much more welcomed on the Xbox than the PC (and probably a lot less buggy as well). Being able to sneak up and crack your buddies neck as opposed to the AI is so much more rewarding.

That sounds real great and interesting considering there won't be any big explosions such as in C&C Generals that would really require one. I can imagine it just being there to give that extra realism.

Yeah, I can imagine it looking quite impressive to see bodies flying from the impact of a catapult or cannon shot. Debris flying off of ships and walls falling down, etc. should look pretty impressive using Havok.

26. Boycott...anyone? Dec 20, 2004, 14:59 Geese

Ok, I know boycotts almost never work...but what the heck. Let's all boycott every single EA game in any form...PC, Console, those crappy plug-directly-into-your-tvset-games.

First they hold out on joining Xbox live. Then when they finally get on board, they bring a crappy implementation. (Burnout 3s net implementation is horrendous). Then they get exclusivity of the NFL for the next 5 or so years, which essentially means they don't have to produce anything resembling a quality game, because no sports fan will probably buy any game (no matter how high quality) without real teams and players. Now they are heavily investing one of my favorite publishers...UBISOFT (please please say EA doesn't get its grubby hands on Splinter Cell 3!)

Anyways...I've had it with EA. No more EA games for me. Who's with me? YAARRRGHHHH!!!!

Anyone remember "Arabstreets"? Whatever happened to that one? I seem to remember playing that map for a while, and then with one of the updates around the time the game went retail, the map was pulled. Am I remembering things wrong? I remember liking that map a lot and then it just disappearing.

If it's truly based on the show, it'd better include crappy special effects, ridiculous plots, and bad acting.

It didn't seem so ridiculous when I was 10. And actually, a lot of the plots are still pretty good to this day...of course still marred by crappy SE and bad acting. I still think "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" is a great episode and would love to see it remade.

You obviously don't live in an area with no work, a games costs 50% of welfare for the week (which most people are on) trying desperatly to bring up three kids.

I'm trying to understand how a person with 3 kids on welfare would even consider purchasing Half Life 2. I would assume he was referring to the droves of people who obviously CAN afford the game but choose to warez it.
