Well, this is good news. I was just thinking yesterday that it was funny that no one had ever done a Dr. Who computer game. I hope it doesn't suck. I'd like to see an RPG with a plot that involves some sort of global threat to the entire time stream where you get to play a chapter for each of the Doctors and, of course, the villians must include the Master, the Daleks, Cybermen, ...

You kill this big Googam- Son of Goom type thing and G-man gives you a choice of working for him or refusing. If you refuse, he teleports you in front of one of those tough soldier grunts, sans weapons. If you agree, he says something along the lines of "Good to have you aboard" and the credits roll.
I must be alone in the universe in my feeling underwhelmed by HL2. I like the character models, but other than that, the graphics really don't strike me as looking any better than, say, Far Cry. I still think Doom3 is the best looking game out there currently. I find all the traveling I'm doing in HL2 uninteresting as well as the combat. I liked the Ravenhome level, but I had more fun playing catch with Dog than at any other time up to that point.

Antonye, did you uncheck the install counterstrike source option at the beginning of the install? I did, and I got the same error message you did. I tried a re-install and left all the options as their default, and that worked. Then I just deleted counterstrike source from the menu. I hope that helps.

I'm getting a different error message during install on disk 4 about not being able to find a file and then install terminates with a fatal error. Anyone else getting this? I took it back and got another copy from the store, but it does the same thing.

I think it's great! Now I don't have to feel guilty when I say I don't believe. I was born this way! It would be interesting if they deterined a link between these genes and the ones involved with aggression. It would go a long way towards explaining why religious indivduals throughout history have often been so murderous and justifying, even to this day, their violence inflicted upon other human beings due to the intolerance of their religious creeds. I've often wondered why many otherwise well-educated and intelligent people claim to be believers. This actually explains alot when you really think about it.

I didn't think the camera was too bad, though it did seem to have this weird habit of dropping POV lower than I remember it doing in the original game. Maybe that's due to its console roots.

Yeah, I agree with Sixis in that it felt more sleazy to me than sexy, with all the bondage and goth stuff. I thought 'carnage' was cool, though. Sorta like 'style points' for dispatching enemies in interesting ways. It would be cool if a game came with an auto-Matinee (from Unreal Tournament) where it would automatically record the 'carnage' type kills with a mouse drag camera view where the user could setup the playback and upload the files to the net where other players of the game could download them and view them and maybe incorporate new moves into the game. The physics engines of games are getting pretty sophisticated now and I'm sure many players are coming up with clever ways to dispatch enemies that would be fun for other players to view.

Virge has hit the nail on the head. I liked the first one, but from the demo at least, the sequel looks to be disappointing. Now there's something new and different. I liked the feeding fatalities, though. But are they all implemented in the demo? I can't get the mouse B2 and the spacebar based ones to work.

I wonder if the legal dept over at Marvel will next target Irrational Games claiming that Freedom Force vs Third Reich looks like a 'Jack Kirby Marvel Comic'? That's obviously the look that Irrational is going for, so maybe Irrational will rework the box cover and internal art so as to avoid what Marvel's lawyers will argue if a suit is filled. Marvel's legal strategy seems to be to bully everyone in the software industry not to do superhero themes unless they pay Marvel's highway robbery liscense fees. I agree with the previous poster that these legal depts ought to be slapped with hefty fines, but I doubt we'll ever see such a society though.

I think they could really expand the appeal of this franchise if they added a mission editor to it. They could even sell the best ones over the internet. Bioware is starting to sell user-created mods for about five bucks. Maybe since a mission editor wouldn't add new graphics or voice-overs they could sell the best user-created ones for .99 or less? For the price of a song download, you could extend the gameplay of the title for hours of entertainment.

translation: "This is something brand new that no one's ever done before, so to determine pricing, we're now entering a period to determine what the market will bear." That's cool with me. I think it's reasonable to expect the better mods to be more costly. I just hope they continue to remain open about how many downloads they are getting, and they don't screw the creators with work-for-hire bullshit like the comics industry. Actually, a pricing system that adjusted itself in real time to the popularity of download numbers would be kinda cool. Mods that have been evaluated for quality by the publisher but don't seem to be catching on with large download rates could have their prices softened to encourage experimentation by buyers, likewise, very popular mods could see their prices gradually rise, hopefully, resulting in more dollars in the pocket of the people who created them.

I think it's a great idea. Fan creators deserve to be compensated financially for their efforts. Neverwinter Nights really is an awesome model for entertainment. Neverwinter Vault has done far better than any other modified title in making fan-created content available for download and done a great job separating the high quality stuff from the so-so. Now, people can build an audience of individuals who appreciate their work through freebies, then save their extra-special stuff for sale. Maybe one day, the dream of digitally creative people everywhere, creators could make a living off of doing what they love to do and quit their corporate drone drudge-work.

It's nice to know he still has a sense of humor after all the years he's been in the business. He basically started at a time when anybody with an idea could get a game on the shelf going through to the dismal state of the industry today where the only thing that gets funded are sequels.
