(A real game) would get SecureROM + Install limits + a DNA Sample + a Non-lubricated steel-studded dildo up the consumer's ass. Dude, you coulda stopped at the DNA sample...really...
Anyway, I don't see what the hell the big deal is. I don't punish myself by boycotting games because the company behind it might make business decisions I don't agree with (And having DRM or not is really just a business decision). As if I matter enough for them to even notice. Please. No GTA4, FarCry2, Fallout3 because of SecuRom or install limits, etc? Whatever. I just follow the instructions like a good little sheep and get to enjoy the fruits of it. Granted when it intereferes with running the game, yes then it's a problem... I'm a major X addict. I've played all of them and have been following the series since it was just a measly tech demo in 1997. When X3 came out with StarForce attached, I was concerned only in the fact that it might not run well because of it. Thankfully, I had no problems. Which kinda leads to my next point. If you know your system and keep it in top shape with updated drivers and hardware, then you should not have as many or any problems. (Put the pitchfork and torch down, I'm not blaming the gamer for DRM's screw ups, though stupid mistakes and not reading the instructions do count for a number of problems) I have all the latest games installed on my system and all run just fine. The only one to cause a problem, for me personally, was GTA4 with it's WS10 error. After the second patch, the problem disappeared. Also, a while after release, Egosoft put out a patch to remove the Starforce on X3...
I just can't understand why someone would purposely punish themselves by boycotting a game. The publishers don't care! So you're missing out for nothing gained...

...it was more of a real merger with Activision just being the dominant partner So, basically, Activision took Blizzard out for a night on the town and then maybe went back to Blizzard's place for a night cap and, hey what'dyaknow!, look at that, nine months later you got Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3...I wonder if they'll look like their father...

Yeah, but isn't the first Far Cry available for free download? I vaguely remember that...the rest are a good deal, especially IL-2-1946. Too bad they couldn't throw in Lock-on with that. Then it would really rock...

Bought this game for $10 at Frys and played it for 1 hour. What a total piece of SHIT! And, hence, thats why your opinion is also shit. A game such as this takes way more than a freakin' hour to get into. It's obvious by your tone you were looking for the be all/end all of action space shooters. That's not what X is and bad mouthing it because of that is just ignorant...

I'll tell you all right now, I am NOT an RPG fiend. I spend the majority of my time hot lapping or league racing online. That said, I have to give some love to the Chrono series. The music alone is worth it. And, if you're a vid game music fan like me, check out http://www.vgmix.com for everything you'd ever need...Anyway, I haven't actually played any of the FF series yet (hey, don't give me that smirk), but I watched a friend of mine play thru FF6 and was impressed. I don't think I could devote that kind of time to something so intricate. You RPG players are definitely a cut above us sim guys...

The one and only thing about games thru the ages that drove me nuts regarding AI was the tendacy to get stuck between an NPC and a doorway or wall, especially if it was your own squad (Rainbow Six, I'm staring you down). A lot of games seemed to have chronic fear of walking thru doorways, like Medal of Honor, Sin, Call of Duty (somewhat), Halo, etc...And in sim-racing, forgeddaboutit. Pit stops during yellow flags in Nascar sims were the absolute worst damn thing you could encounter (Nascar Heat was absolutely notorious for this, Nascar Racing 4, 2002 and 2003 less so, but still guilty). You'd go around the track once or twice until the pit opened and then slow to enter...out of frackin' nowhere, BAM! Dick Trickle just made up for all his childhood school nightmares on your rear bumper...
Computer AI still has a long way to go...especially if devs want to get away from scripting every damn thing in the game...

What, like a Turok/Trophy Hunting hybrid? Interesting...
Then again, I don't fancy being hunted while hunting...there's no end to the irony of shooting that prized buck only to be jumped by a pack of mean, hungry Raptors when I try to go pick it up...

You know what would really, REALLY hit the spot?
A HALO MMORPG/FPS/RTS/OMG/WTF
Yup. And why wait half a freakin' decade to get it? You know they're eventually gonna do it. After Halo Wars, they could make the next HALO out of frackin' claymation and it'd still sell 2 million in the first week. Don't shake your head, you know it would. So, enough with the press hype 'till our ears and eyes bleed, just put it out there and be done with it...
Tabula Rasa? Interesting concept. Garriott should get an Emmy just for his imagination alone, but sadly, that doesn't sell subscriptions, son...Besides Blizzard, did anyone ever consider that it's not the backstory, or the designer, or even the name...but the gameplay that ultimately matters?

You should know by now, Derek, that those who scorn you do so because you invite them to. Like the little kid at school that everyone would pick on. Why? Because it was so easy to do so. I still think you Google your name daily to see where it has popped up then fly in to announce your magnificent presence. Only, like you claim, we couldn't give a rats ass what you think. Your names and slurs only make us chuckle. Do you honestly think that the things you say are ever considered? I can tell you now, not here, not ever...

Actually Lock-On and it's Flaming Cliffs add-on have the Su-25. FC is actually dedicated to it. Definitely the flight-sim to beat at the moment, especially with it's Black Shark expansion just coming out. While I like games like H.A.W.X, like Air Combat, you just don't get the same control as you do in a real sim...

Love me some Desktop Commander I swear that's frackin' Emmy material right there! Pure, Classic, two-thumbs up! And maybe a middle finger for good measure...
All those poor game boxes tho...I could cry...
And, you know, if they updated it, they could get 'Vince, for ShamWOW!'...or, no, now it's 'Vince, for SlapCHOP!'...still, two egotistical jackasses clammering for top honors in the 'I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR' Dumbass Awards...

Any suggestions on a PCI card that would play semi newer games (no problem with running at low res)? Funny you should ask that. I just had to go fishing for a PCI card for my moms Dell that originally had a Radeon 9250 that I put in it. Since her system is older (2004-ish), it doesn't have PCI-Express or even AGP, which would have been easier. But anyway, the best one I could find was a Radeon HD 2400 Pro w/256mb GDDR2 on NewEgg (and Dell, but at a premium, of course) for around $70. Gets you everything you need for the newer games (DX10 and Shader 3). On the Nvidia side, I noticed a 9400GS and some 8300/8400 series boards, which get you about the same thing as the ATI for around the same price, maybe a little lower. I think anything over an ATI X1600 is Shader 3, but I could be wrong. I know my X850PRO in my old system only had DX9/Shader2.0...
As for me, I got the HD2400 PRO. I wanted to replace the ancient Rad 9250 because I got a new 23-inch widescreen LCD for my mom for Valentines Day (awww) and I knew it wasn't gonna run too good at it's native res with that old clunker...

Well, thanks guys for the insight. Much more info than I expected and not even one trip across the Jersey state line.
Anyway, I think I might hold off for now. It seems like EVE requires a lot (if not all) of time to devote to it, which isn't in an abundant supply for me right now. The concept sounds very interesting - some aspects sound very X3-ish. Corps, blueprints, stuff like that. Just much more social.
One thing that caught my attention is that higher ranked players can invade the noob areas and reek havoc. That doesn't sound like a very good design decision to me. Granted, life isn't fair but it would be extremely frustrating and I don't think that's the goal of the game - or any game. I would have thought that players past a certain level would not be able to enter a newbie area, or if they could, not be able to fight. Are all MMORPG's similar in this respect? (If you haven't guessed - yes, I'm a major noob when it comes to MMO's. My specialty is sims, particularly racing and space sims)...

The game only works for me ONCE right after installation... Slink, just off the top of my head, I had a similar problem a while back with some of my games that would load the first time and then either crash, lock or just not respond at all every time after. Turns out a small, almost undetectable trojan/virus was changing the files as they were run, especially their size on disk. Once this happened, some games would freak out because it wasn't the file they were expecting when it was run. I'm sure there were other changes besides just the size, but it might be something to look into. Again, this is just from personal experience. It may not be that at all, but you can never really be too sure...
