News Comments > Order of War: Challenge Delayed
1. Re: Order of War: Challenge Delayed Feb 25, 2010, 13:59 Rigs

Well, I think the thing here is that the dev team have probably been working on it since the original OoW was released but it just wasn't announced until they had a firm date for which to let it go. I'm actually looking forward to this. The original kept me entertained for a few nights, which is always a plus in my book. I'm hoping the mod community doesn't pass this one up. I don't know how moddable it is, but I can see potential with the engine anyways...

It looks like ass and doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

Are you sure you're playing the same thing I am? Looks like ass was not the first thing that came to mind when I fired it up... Confused

I have to admit I'm pissed, but I'm not worried. I agree Ubi shouldn't be pulling this shit, but I don't think they'll get away with it unscathed. EA learned (for a month or two) from their mistakes, I'm almost positive the same will happen to Ubi. The general press has gotten wind of it and they'll pursue it if only because it's a light news day. They will change their minds in one way or another. If not pull the DRM wholesale, they'll release a patch after SH5 is released to neuter the DRM. Hell, X3's dev EGOSOFT do the same. X3 had DRM but it was turned off in a patch after the game had sold long enough. I have a feeling this will be the same deal...

And if not, it will certainly be cracked soon after release anyway. I'm sorry, but the game looks awesome. I'm not gonna 'bite my nose to spite my face'... Sigh

Heh, something I heard in an IRC chat with a game development team once (long time ago, mind you)...

'Game devs are like roaches. You crush their house and they all go scurrying to new ones just as quick as long as there's pizza and electricity. The death of a game company means the birth of a new one somewhere else...it is all relative...'

Someone forgot to tell Gearbox the definition of 'micro-transaction'...$10 is pretty steep for DLC, IMO anyways...

I'm sure they'll really miss the 20 sales they're not going to get from Blue's News forum-dwellers.

Bite your tongue, elfboy...

You'd be surprised how many lurk in the dark recesses of the Blue's forums...

They install restrictive, buggy drivers without our knowledge and we fall back!

They destroy good games with DRM and we fall back!

'The line must be drawn here! And no further!'

Don't see what the hatred for this game is.

Like anything really...I mean, I absolutely hate WoW. I don't see what the point is of standing still in front of an opponent and both of you punch/shoot/magically conjur/swipe while little numbers pop up above your head until one says zero? (I'm talking in general terms here, not specifically about WoW in particular, but all RPG MMO's - or even hardcore single player RPG's for that matter) And how can a game where one of the main playing mechanics is called 'the grind' be a recipe for blockbuster success? It boggles my mind and I say as much on a regular basis. Now, some people think that all Trekkies are dirty, foul-smelling, geeky dorks who need to brush their teeth more often and that playing a game where all you do is 'pew pew' around in space all day and 'pew pew' on the ground all night is a recipe for disaster. It's all relative when you look at it...Don't let it get to you and if you're a Trekkie then you're probably use to it by now anyway...

If you don't well... then don't play it.

Couldn't have said it better myself, though they will post about it ad nausem on any forum they can find just to keep up their street cred...

And get bent while you're at it.

Indeed...

They have had 'awesome' changes for one reason - iPhone. If Apple had never gotten into the game, Windows Mobile 6 would have been the last release and anything mobile for Windows would have been a pipe dream...I don't say that to knock you Enahs, just a reality check is all...

You know, I was looking around and found Garry's Mod on Steam and thought to myself, why the hell would I pay for that? $10?!? No way! I wasn't impressed with it when it first came out, shortly after HL2 surfaced, why would I actually pay for it now? But looking at it and now seeing how much it's changed and grown (which is considerable when you compare it too it's first lowly mod versions) I kinda started to look at it differently. Then I saw this and it sold it:

How can you not love something that lets you mess with the G-man?

Well, despite my previous statement that I would wait a few months and then grab STO at a discount, I caved in today and bought it while shopping for a SATA DVD burner (all my burner belong to IDE and I was tired of trying to get that freakin' flat ribbon IDE cable into the slot at inhuman angles. And, yes, I know there are rounded cables, but none I can find anywhere in the bum-fuck Egypt I live in) at almighty Wal-Mart. Ugh, $50 is a little freakin' steep. Not that you can get it online for cheaper and then have to download a 6-8gb file (which would take nearly two days on my barely passable 3mbps DSL), so I relented. I was kinda psyched when I was in the beta and really kinda liked the whole thing. Then again, I'm not an MMO gamer. This would mark the first I have actually gone out and purchased after being in the beta. I missed the boat with Earth and Beyond (I really had wanted to try that before it died) and then again with SWGalaxies. I had the chance to play for a year for free as part of some promotion back then and passed on it due to 'Real Life'(tm) issues. EVE was my latest chance and I did stay with it for about all of half the tutorial before moving on...

Here's to STO! May it actually be worth the gaping hole in my wallet...

Just a heads up, Blue, that there are some typos in the post...

Anyway, I would like to thank Frans once again for all the hard work he puts into making this site shine, as it should. However, I've always had misgivings about 'Age Verification' on websites. Don't get me wrong, I understand totally the 'why', but the 'how' is always something that never really lives up to it's purpose. I put in my birthdate (I suppose I could lie if I was feeling like I was giving too much information away in a public place, which brings me to another point shortly) but I never feel like there's a solid justification for revealing personal info like that. (Yeah, yeah, so what it's just a birthday, right? Everyone has one! But that's not the point) On top of that, what is preventing the kiddies in the group to lie their way around it? Also, if it does indeed do what it says, does it also display it when you are trying to view comments or write a reply?

Hoping I don't sound too much like a neo-Ted Kaczynski...

FPS is expensive to produce, and the focus of most dedicated PC gamers.

Eh?

I like my wargames much more than any of your fandangled FPS doohickies, and I consider myself in the 'hardcore gamer' camp (yes, except for not playing System Shock 2...geez, let it go already)...
