you are too busy racing to get to the next age to really enjoy the current one in to the fullest...

'Tis why I would keep my skirmishes mostly to one or two epochs max, so I could concentrate on building up and attacking, not research and getting old...

The WW1 and WW2 epochs were my favorite really...WW1 cause it had aircraft but they were slow and less powerful and WW2 because of what else? The nukes! Was always fun to put the cheat in and instanta-build like 5 airfields with nuke bombers but the fun thing was that the AI would cheat too and do the same exact friggin' thing you were - Mutually Assured Destruction...

You X360 guys can't just throw any old Seagate, Maxtor or Western Digital in there for more storage like us PS3 types? That certainly sucks...how do you even put up with it? All that AND the RRoD?!?

FAIL

400 more stores?!?

Are they crazy?!?

Maybe they know something we don't? I can't see any justification for opening that many stores - at once (over a year or two anyway) - and in this hostile economic environment. Their forecasters say the recession was easing up? 'Oh, it's all over now, let's go open a few hundred stores and get that loose money that's (supposedly) burning a hole in the consumers pockets'...puh'leeze...

I hope they choke...

Well, speaking of bundles - they should get Another World (Out of this World), [forgot the name of the second one...bugger], and Fade To Black all together in one pack. I'd buy that for a dollar! (or more if needed)

Also, Archimedian Dynasty, Aquanox 1 and 2, and then the last of the series (sort of) Sub Culture all wrapped in a nice little bundle would be a nice buy...I used to love playing Sub Culture, they got the underwater effects down pretty well and the 3D at the time was kick-ass...

Ok, so I bought Silent Hunter 5. Haven't had many issues. In fact, I haven't had any. I'm not on playing games 24/7 as half the time my system's pulled apart while I mod new things to the case or doing benchmarks, so I didn't suffer through the 'server attacks'. Anyway, I was curious. I wanted to know what exactly Ubi means when they say that the cracked, pirated version will not be the whole game? I've downloaded a version of said game but haven't run it yet. Technically, I can say it's a backup to the one I bought...Should I see what's different? *shrugs*

Yes, the link is...dead?

Just go to the front page...

These screenies look just like Most Wanted...why, oh why, can't they throw some DirectX 10 in there?!? Is there a shortage of pixel shader programmers? *sigh*

Anyone remember the early days of 3d hardware? There was Rage3d, Glide, Virge, Rendition, Mystique etc...

I sit here awaiting the return of the mighty 2D graphics goddess that was Rendition! My Diamond Stealth S220 sits here on the shelf next to me, ready for the day of Rendition's return...

Funny how a 3D accelerator had the best 2D graphics and colors ever put to silicon... *shrugs*

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Nvidia and AMD/ATI have to support the open standard in their drivers?

Well, considering it's not just going to show up in the driver without actually coding for it...yeah, they do...

From my experience of working in corporate settings (granted, not game development offices though), I would guess and say that the PC's were company issue but the cell phones were personal. No doubt, there would have to be solid and physical proof of that...I've always been wary of leaving any kind of personal info on a company system, even emails, especially if they're are hooked up to a robust company intranet. I know in one case, the company I temped for (who shall remain nameless) had a full-time IT 'snoop' who would keep an eye on the other network users and their access to outside network ports...I'd go so far as to say they read nearly each and every email...Unless you're the company IT guy, I'd be careful of doing anything that might be seen as insubordinate...

More system RAM...Go with the 4870 though.

Rigs, are you running a 64 bit OS?

Negative. 32-bit for now, I only have 2gb of RAM so I don't really see the point. I plan to upgrade later on (Core i7, another 2 or 4gb RAM) and will most likely do the switch over then. I'm leaning more toward the HD4870...

The bus difference will be hardly noticeable.

I dunno 'bout that. What would be causing the extreme stuttering problem in GTA4? I've tried damn near everything and yet it still stutters to the point of being unplayable. I've turned the graphics settings down to the lowest, changed sound cards, defragged. Hell, I even re-installed it on my Intel X-25 SSD to see if that would help. Nothing. But when I have the HD4870 in, it runs just fine... Whatever

I had the Cat 10.2's in, but on reboot, I was looking at my desktop in 4 colors! Rubeyes An error popped up in all it's CGA glory and told me that the CCC was incompatible with the drivers I had installed! Wtf They both came in the same download from the same freakin' place. So I went back to the oldie-but-goodie 9.12's...Somehow, though, I don't think that has to do with the stuttering. I should note that most of my other games run fine but they just don't seem to be 'stable'. I feel like if I push it too hard, it'll crash or something... *sigh*

Quick consensus while you guys are here...

If you had to choose one of these to go with a Core i5-750 w/2gb Kingston DDR3 (on a Gigabyte P55M-UD2) and WinXP/SP3-Win7 dual-boot, which would it be?

ATI Radeon HD4870 w/512mb

or

ATI Radeon HD5770 w/1024mb

Keep in mind the HD5770, while having more RAM on-board, is limited to a 128-bit bus, while the HD4870 is 256-bit...

I have both. The HD4870 was from a system I built a year and a half ago (right when the HD4870's came out, so that's why it's only 512mb RAM - sucks to be an early adopter sometimes) and the HD5770 from the one I type this on, built a month ago. The older system is going to a relative and I wanted to make sure I got the best card. For some reason, the HD5770 stutters horribly in GTA4, whereas the HD4870 was smooth as silk after the second patch...I can't decide, so you do it for me!

Not meaning to jack the thread or anything,

Shocked

Them's some mighty purrty screenies there...I'm guessing the minimum will be a Six-Core i7 980x, 16 gigs of DDR5, a 160gb SSD hard drive, and four nVidia GTX480's in Quad-SLI? Maybe a side of Windows8 and DirectX12 to go along with it?

Check please! Rolleyes2
