What data was affected?
Here's a summary of the data that we know was illegally accessed:
North American-based accounts, including players from Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia

Email addresses
Answers to secret security questions
Cryptographically scrambled versions of passwords (not actual passwords)
Information associated with the Mobile Authenticator
Information associated with the Dial-in Authenticator
Information associated with Phone Lock, a security system associated with Taiwan accounts only

Accounts from all global regions outside of China (including Europe and Russia)

Email addresses

China-based accounts

Unaffected

At this time, there’s no evidence that financial information of any kind has been accessed. This includes credit cards, billing addresses, names, or other payment information.

I'm just gonna go on a hunch here and assume that the 'hackers' were, oh, I dunno, Chinese maybe? How long is this country (and the world for that matter) going to put up with these bullshit games China is playing?! If we kept getting caught with our virtual schlongs in the honey pot, so to speak, how long do you think they would put up with it before using it as an excuse to start a war, maybe with Taiwan? Yet we sit back and just zip our fly's back up and say, 'Oh you crazy Chinese! Always into something, eh?! Silly, at least use some lube next time, huh?' ....

26. Re: Out of the Blue Aug 8, 2012, 17:36 Rigs

EuroGamer Grid2 preview here...

There's a silly trademarked name for what car handling designer Tim Dearing is doing: TrueFeel. Really, though, it's just a process of hard work and good judgement that starts with raw simulation data for each car, processed by a new physics engine that runs at 1000 Hz. The designers then carefully prune back the cars' more demanding behaviours and ladle in some progressive, controllable drifting "because people find it fun", while attempting to preserve the feel and basic handling characteristics of a particular car. The end result, Dearing says, should be easy for most players to master within a couple of laps, but offer plenty of depth beyond that.

Long-term challenge will mostly come from ascending through Grid 2's four tiers of cars. Although missing the most expensive licences - Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari - it looks like a well-curated selection of muscular exotics. You'll start in classics like the 1970s Mach 1 Mustang and BMW E30 M3, then progress through Skylines and modern muscle cars to supercars like the McLaren MP4-12C, track day specials like the wild BAC Mono, and finally outré hypercars like the Pagani Huayra and Koenigsegg Agrea R.

While there's a somewhat 'British' response to the 'no cockpit' view 'controversy' here...

I know, right??? If only they'd followed it up with a game that focused on online and team play! Like players fighting in an Arena or something. Would have been so cool, and they could have included Quake symbols and stuff!

Oooh, BURN!

You know, I'm all for those who want to put out a game that they want to play and want others to enjoy, but I have to wonder why in the world anyone (especially SOE) would waste time and resources for something that clearly is not going to 'light the market on fire'. All the little games by the 'little guys' out there that could use a nice financial 'shot in the arm', just enough for them to bring their dream to completion (look on KickStarter for instance), like Crashtastic or Star Command to name some really good recent ones, would be 100x more effective than putting another stupid F2PFPS that most likely will fail or be just barely manageable within' a year of release. It just doesn't make sense to me whatsoever! I'm not very critical of most games. When I look at and play a game, I see the effort that was put into it by the people who built it. The hours, days, weeks, and even years of work put into it. But you get something like this where it just doesn't make sense to even come out with in the first place, why even start? Or if they knew that it wasn't going to be the 'WoW of online FPS's', why not kill it early and devote the funds to...hell, keeping the SWG servers up for another year or two? I just don't get it...I mean, am I the only one?

You know, it's not really related to the story, but does anyone remember the old Bethesda game that eventually got canned, 10th Planet? I vaguely remember that shaping up to be one hell of a game! Wonder if they'll ever try to resurrect old games that didn't quite make it to release? That would be major awesome! Especially if they finally got around to finishing and releasing Babylon5: Into The Fire! God, I'd give a kidney for that game! Star Trek: Secret of Vulcan Fury would be good too! Or maybe that Warcraft RPG that they shelved to build WoW instead? So many possibilities and here we are rehashing the same stuff, like movie reboots! Lets get some originality in here, eh?

And now that I think of it, what about that cool space-sim Red Storm was working on way, way back (forgot the name of it)?! WE NEED MORE SPACE SIMS! ...and NAVAL SIMS! One reboot I'd like is another Task Force 1942...ah, it's nice to dream, ain't it? Instead we're supposed to get excited over another Call of Duty...and ANOTHER Medal of Honor...and another Max Payne and ANOTHER Far Cry...(well, actually I'm looking forward to the next Far Cry but anyway)... *sigh*

Ok, very good. I thought there were more than that but I was probably thinking of HOI2 expansions and what-not. Speaking of which, for extra credit (and a cookie!), can you name all of the HOI games, including expansions? I know there's one that I can't remember the name of that I've been looking for. I'll know it when I see it...I should probably just look the damn thing up already...

I should probably know this already and I could probably find it if I looked hard enough but I'm just overloaded with work and just have a few mins, so...

Can someone list, in order, the various HOI3 expansions and stand-alones? I'm not sure if I missed any and I'm sure someone here knows all of them...

Meh, they gotta make money, just like everyone else. What I don't get is why the beta drivers are 20mb more than the normal ones? And what the hell is in 150mb? I mean, c'mon, just give me the changed stuff, not the whole damn thing again and again! Just because I have broadband doesn't mean I still want to wait the 10mins and waste the 100+mb of disk space on a damn video driver! Yeah, it's petty, but valid...

So, let's get some opinions in here of the 'real world' improvements. I'm curious if anyone sees any kind of speed enhancements with older cards, like my HD5770...

I'm suitably...not impressed...

It's like they try to spotlight a few particular effects to the detriment of the others. I agree, the 'human' walking (the intro description says a woman...or 'she' anyway, no necessarily human) looks extremely corny. Like the cloak they're wearing is made out of inflated rubber or maybe jello...no, Jabba the Hutts tail painted black?

You want a 'tech demo' to blow you away, go back to 1997 and watch the tech-demo-turned-sim X. Before it became a game, it was just a little tech demo, running on new Pentium200 rigs in Circuit City. I happened to see it one day and I'll never forget the feeling. My jaw was wide open for the entire 7 mins it played. From then on I vowed to get a machine that could run it adequately...and I did, several months later, roughly a year and a half before X came out as a space-sim, I was the proud owner of a P2/400 with 128mb of RAM and the kick-ass combo of a Rendition-based Diamond Stealth S220 and a 3dfx Voodoo2-based Diamond Monster 3D 2 video card combo of epic proportions. Life was good after that, life was good...*sigh*...so, uh, what were we talking about again?

Yes! YES! BAKE UNDER THE OPPRESSIVE HEAT!

Find that after a few hours of playing Diablo3, you're sitting in a puddle....OF SWEAT!

Now you all know what I have endured all of these long years! Every single year, (now 15 years going on a hundred) from April until November! Dew points and temperatures doing a dance, daring one to get as close as it can to the other. Meanwhile, the lawn needs to be mowed twice a week! That machete over there in the corner? I cut the air with it! Yes, indeed, sometimes so thick you think if it was colored you might actually find out what it's like to live in JELLO!

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN...of SWEAT!

No. It's a gimick and it's even worse than 3d. 3D is backwards compatible with everything more or less, VR isn't. You won't be playing any of our FPS's with it, or if you do, you will suck hard. A little common sense is all it takes...your head movement is going to replace the mouse? lol ok.

So all of us who play the DCS sims and rFactor/GTR/iRacing and use TrackIR are just chumps? Don't knock it 'til you try it, bud...

I recently had to play A-10 without my TrackIR, since I loaned it to a friend for a few days weeks (grrrr...), and I felt naked and clumsy, like a noob...Now, if we can get some decent res out of these headsets, then I'm all for it! Sure beats the shit out of '3D', which only gives me a massive headache. Fully realized VR? Probably not in my lifetime, though my daughter might eventually have a kickin' setup in a few decades...

Holy shit, where did this come from? Looks AWESOME.

Took the words right outta my mouth....HOLY SHIT!!! And we're not talking Priest or Cardinal shit here, not ah, no sir! We're full-bore POPE SHIT!!

There is only one other game in the whole 27+ years I've been playing PC/console games that ever left me stunned to silence and mouth agape - that was the tech demo running on an HP Pentium2/233 of a game that was soon to be named, 'X: Beyond The Frontier', in 1997! It was in a Circuit City, a few months before getting a brand new P2/400 (on ASUS's legendary P2B motherboard w/Intels 440BX chipset). I liked to pop in there once in a while to see the newer systems but I wasn't prepared to see what I did. I literally couldn't move! I stood there in shocked silence and watched the tech demo run through. Faint My fiance` at the time tried very hard to get me out of the store but I wasn't budging! I still remember like it was yesterday. It's almost comical to watch now, with it's blurry textures and crooked background starfield. Oh, but I was entranced then! Right there, that day, I promised myself I would find out what that demo was for and get a system that could run it full bore. Two years later, in early 2000, after wearing out the demo, I finally had the full version box in my hands and I was in heaven! PURE BLISS! It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough, and I've been with the series, on it's beta teams and getting every version that comes out...

But now, my god! NOW, there's something that even I dare say X: REBIRTH can't even touch! This game, when playable (almost like it took a page out of the tech demo handbook, it's very difficult to get running correctly at any decent FPS), gives me that same rush I've been without for so many years! This trailer blew me away, it showed everything I ever wanted in a Minecraft/X/HALO/RedFaction type of game! All of those games and then some! Accurate physics! Freedom to go anywhere! Do anything! Seriously, this is what a lot of us have been waiting for, this is the leap the genre needed...and just like before - it came out of NOWHERE! God, I fucking love it when that happens! Woohoo

This thing just oozes potential from every pore! If any dev group deserved a Kickstarter, it's these guys. This thing isn't some re-boot or rehash of the same ground, or a re-do of an earlier game. This thing is unique, a combination of many games and genres and it needs to be supported and the higher-ups out there in publisher land need to be shown what we want to see! More like this please! BLOW MY @#$% MIND! PLEASE!!! Please

All they have to do to get the begrudging respect of the gaming community again is develop and release an up-to-date version of XWing or Tie Fighter. I mean, it's not that hard to figure out! Why is it the games we want most are the games no one wants to make?! I would lease my soul out for Microprose to be resurrected from the ashes and begin making kick-ass updates to all of their old sims. Same for LucasArts. I mean, who the hell wouldn't want an updated 'Their Finest Hour' or 'Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe' (and I mean same quality too, not the travesty of the similar sounding game that came out a few years ago!), or MPS's 1942: Pacific Air War, B-17 (a worthy version!), tricked out Gunship2000, ATAC, F-15 Strike Eagle, WORLD CIRCUIT (F1GP for those foreigners out there ) or my personal fav, TASK FORCE 1942?!?

C'MON, what's it gonna take?! Pray

Was going through my pc gaming mag archive (nearly 400 magazines, from three main ones - Computer Gaming World (June 1992 up), PC Gamer (first issue up and some before the rename/relaunch in 1994) and NEXT Gen (man I miss that mag! It was so professionally done and on quality paper stock to top it off, I have every issue from the first to the third volume and then scattered as the quality fell off) and others like Game Players, PC Accelerator (another I miss dearly!)) and Computer and Video Games Review) and I ran into a preview of HALO as it was originally intended, as an RTS. (Yes, in case you didn't know, it was suppose to be more like HALO Wars than an FPS and for Mac only at first as well) Most of the core concepts, at least in design, are there but besides that, wow. So it went from a Mac-exclusive RTS to a Mac/PC RTS to a PC RTS to a PC FPS and then over to an Xbox exclusive FPS. I'm an unapologetic HALO fanboy, so in any form I'm down with it, but I would have loved to play it's original vision...
