I wasn't aware that ME2 had died...
Interesting question, though. When is a game considered 'dead'? Or even 'old' for that matter? Since even the most obscure games usually have a small following, is a game ever considered truly 'dead'? I'm not talking about games that were never released, so Duke Nukem Forever fans can go about kicking their dead horse without delay...

Not everyone is a hardcore gamer. Indeed, and even some of us who are (ahem...) have overlooked it in the past or thought it wasn't something they would get into. I didn't play it until about two months ago, for the first time. I never got the Orange Box because I lost interest in HL2 after Episode 1. I thought it was sub-par compared to the original material and didn't really have much faith in Ep2. But, as time goes by, you tend to look back at some games, especially really popular ones, and decide to take a look just to see what the big deal is. Thus, I was able to get my hands on Portal in February from a cousin of mine. I played it and thought it was ok, but the latter levels got confusing and lately I haven't had the time to devote to a long play session or the patience. But I didn't want to cheat either and ruin the fun of it if I got the chance to play in the future. Now maybe I can give the DVD back to my cousin and download it so I'll be able to play it at my leisure...
You'd be surprised how many games 'hardcore' gamers don't play...at least not right off the bat...

You have no idea...Yes, just like every other genre, there are people out there that will do anything to win and look good. Usually those Tom Cruise top gun types...
I don't understand, though, why everytime they issue a patch for Lock-On, Flaming Cliffs or Black Shark, it breaks the previous versions replays...

Why is Entrenchment listed twice?
Personally, I like Impulse quite a bit. It runs faster than Steam and is not as much as a memory hog, at least on my system. It would be a shame to lose it from non-interest. I think a buyout might be good, but how would that relate to Stardock's future games? Would they be supported, and would the games out now also have support if Stardock didn't have direct control?

There was a memory limitation built into the engine, once you hit a certain point, and it didnt take much, the game went to shit... stuff would just start disappearing all over the place while you were playing. Yeah, they got around that in GTA4 by turning all the cars into taxis when your vid card ran out of available memory. Very unrealistic but I guess it beats crashing hard to the desktop...

Funny this thing popped up today, as I just downloaded the mod yesterday. I haven't even gotten around to installing it yet, but if that's what it looks like, then maybe I'll pass. I wanted it to make SA a little more modern, not like a Puerto Rican lowrider.

If we're talking about MMO space-sims, I think Jumpgate was a good one. Earth and Beyond was a good one too but died way too young. I still don't understand the reasoning behind that one. Took forever to make and lasted, what, two or three years tops? I remember trying it at a friends house but since I didn't have broadband at the time, I couldn't join in. It seemed pretty fun and my friend was addicted totally. I figured I would have time to sample it in the future when I did get DSL/Cable, and then they axed it! EA sucks. All that hype and work - poof! Punks.
Anyway, I haven't heard much about Jumpgate's 'reboot' lately. Are they up again or is it still in development? Really, if you guys are interested in a good space-sim MMO and not like Eve, then Vendetta Online is a good way to go. I played a few years ago and, while a smaller outfit, they are committed to building a good game. In fact, they are about to implement some long planned improvements.
Check it out if you want: http://www.vendetta-online.com/
As for me, I'll stick with STO for my multi and X3:TC for my single-player...

I really think it would have been a game changer...if only the carrier deck had been longer. That's one of the things that hurts the most, I think. All the innovative and creative things you guys were developing for the game and the game assets themselves that never did or will see the light of day. And then the roller-coaster ride you guys had to endure after the cancellation, trying to save the project. It just isn't fair, you know? And to see all of these half-assed, poorly coded and developed games come out instead - it's a spirit breaker, for sure. I know if some of the space-simmers outside of the B5 fanbase knew the things that this game had in store, they'd understand better. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there going to be some sort of dynamic campaign in the game? I mean, the first real dynamic campaign in any sim didn't come out until Falcon 4. And in a space-sim? I don't think it's been done yet...
Randy, Christy, Dan and I are all in the Bay Area now, and I still check in with Jack every now and then when I can (usually via FO). I went to FO quite a bit back in the day but things have dropped off considerably in the last few years with nothing much going on. Mods pop up here and there when a new strategy game comes out but that's about it. It's funny, when a space/sci-fi strategy game is released, there are always four different mods you know are going to be available within a month - Star Trek, Star Wars, StarGate and B5. I mean, at least there are some new things to keep us gamers busy, but I always hope for a new full-fledged space-sim will surprise me one day... If you get the chance, please give all of them my regards when you see them next. I'm just a an old-school fan who watched the 'Great Tragedy' from afar and remember it well. It's good to see you guys are still sticking together after all this time, I hope things are going well...
And for those here that want to know some of what could have been... Babylon 5: Into The Fire Gameplay FAQ
Simply awesome...

Dragon, you worked on B5: ITF? Were you also a part of Sector 14?
It's interesting that indie devs were brought up, since the B5 indie game 'I've Found Her' (made in Russia) was pretty much true to the source materials, even had a full Newtonian flight model that every space-sim jock clamors for when one of these things come out (and it was based on a commercial game engine - Homeplanet) but the interest past the B5 fans was almost nil. They had planned quite a bit but after the first release it seemed to have died...
Back to B5: ITF, I truly think that if it had lived to see a release, it would be spoken of in the same breath as Freespace, Wing Commander, and X-Wing. It just had everything going for it, plus cutting edge tech (at the time) and copious amounts of footage shot especially for the game itself with the series sets (that almost no one outside the devs has ever seen...or most likely will ever see). Such a damn freakin' shame that a game with so much potential gets shot out of existence while crappy no-nothings get full funding (Star Trek D-A-C anyone? Blech!)...
My anger still simmers over B5: ITF's loss...

I don't think it's a fear of multiplayer that's the problem. It's just that the majority of the games Matrix puts out are already stellar as a single-player experience, and keep in mind that a lot of them do have play-by-email or hotseating. Granted, it's not the balls-to-the-wall real-time or fps action settings you may be looking out for, but a human opponent will always be much more varied and cunning. That said, though, I have found that many of the Matrix games I play I don't even bother to check to see if they are capable of multiplayer as I'm too engrossed in the single player game to notice...

Funny, I was just thinking yesterday if they were gonna put out more patches for this thing. It's a good game...it's been eating into my GalCiv2 time, but with my limited goof-off time slowly getting smaller and smaller, I'm finding it difficult to play these types of games that pretty much require your whole brain at attention, and then some...I thought once I had mastered War in the Pacific: Admirals Edition, there could be no other game that would fully satisfy my insatiable thirst for wargaming and strategic dueling...Distant Worlds came close in its own way, but just under the mark. Too bad too, it just needed some more...hmmm, 'coherence', if that makes any sense. It felt too spread out and diluted, doing too many things at a time and mastering none...

I don't know what the worst Star Wars game of all time is, Force Unleashed or Phantom Menace. How soon we forget the coding disaster that was Force Commander. I, personally, was ok-ish with it, and the remixed original score was different (though I remember fans at the time wanted to hang the audio director off a bridge by his balls for the atrocity of messing with John Williams' perfection). I've found over the years that even if a game isn't that bad, and some gamers actually like it somewhat, if it gets huge negative feedback, they'll jump on the bandwagon just to be a part of the status-quo. They took a chance to put Star Wars into a 3D real-time tactical strategy game at the time and it really didn't work because the technology wasn't mature enough to do what they originally intended. I think Star Wars: Empire At War kind of redeemed it in some ways by being very playable and enjoyable...
SW:FU was pretty amazing, IMO. I played quite a bit of it on my PS3 and jumped at it when the Sith edition came out on the PC. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to run at the time (not likely the games fault totally, I was having problems across the board around that time due to a trojan/virus) so it's sat here. I just re-installed it last week and plan to get into it this weekend...
On a semi-related note, I also found my Star Wars: Rebellion cd after about 5 years of it missing. It just turned up out of nowhere one day in a place I swore I had looked before... *shrugs* ...now, that was a good Star Wars strategy game!

I'm not taking back what I said before. Just because they semi-fixed the problem doesn't absolve them of the virtual stupidity they exhibited before...I don't get free passes for making dumb decisions just because I fixed it later on...I mean, I'm glad they listened and are willing to do what it takes to fix the problem, but they should have asked us how to do it in the first place instead of guessing or listening to a small user/fan base... *shrugs*

Ugh, I spent three hours today stuck in traffic with a broken A/C (keep in mind I live in West Central Florida, which today had a high of 99)and the radio stuck on the local talk network, which around noon, of course, has the All Mighty El RushBo! All bow before the One and Only! I swear, I can only take so much of him at one time. When Bush was in office, it was nothing but defending him and his administration. Now, it's all about knocking the Obama administration. I mean, some things he says make sense and ride along with what I feel, but he takes too much time pointing out what the Dems aren't doing right but not saying what the Reps could be doing instead to fix it. Like this whole BP oil rig thing. I live about 15 minutes from the Gulf Coast and we've been told to expect some serious hell in the next week or two. Fishing is big here, of course, and I think if this oil slick does head this way, there'll be some serious impact. I don't think anyone here is wanting to know who's at fault, they just want to get it fixed! It seems nowadays, when something goes wrong, it's first find out who did it and then fix the problem. That's not right at all. The immediate concern should be cleaning up this oil before it finally hits the coast. El RushBo picking apart the EPA directors timesheet for the last week and a half is just ridiculous...IOW, if he really gave a shit about the problem (instead of using it to try to nail the Dems), he would use some of his All Mighty money and smarts, get the yacht a little dirty and clean up this freakin' mess already!
We don't need no salsa to get all hot and bothered down here, all we gotta do is walk out the damn door!,
