And look who sits in last place...oh, right - ME! Probably only because I didn't start until the second week and then I went with 'intuition' which, for football, I have like NONE, so I fell - HARD! After the first two weeks, I stopped using my brain and went with the majority, with the exception of all GIANTS games, of course, and some that I felt might be 'sure things', like the Bucs couldn't possibly lose 5/6/7 games in a row...could they? (FFFFFUUUUUU....!) I also always go for Dallas because it was my fathers team. And yes, the 49-17 slaughter they took last week made me cringe. It downright made me sick to my stomach! How the HELL do you lose so bad? Geezus...

I've noticed that even though I have a 57% success rate, once you fall down to the bottom levels, it's almost impossible to make it up unless you manage to get every single one right, which is...almost impossible. I don't care what anyone says, these things are by luck and I think everyone's record shows this...

(for some reason, when I say 'snuggle truck' in my mind, I picture someone yelling, 'TEH FLUFFY!!! I can't take teh fluffy!!! It's just too cute!!!'...hmmm)

This will be a totally new style of game for me, so I'm really curious about the learning curve.

Ah, yes, learning curve....well, picture, if you will, Tiger Woods with a 9-iron. See how after he hits the ball, it curves back down to the ground 150 yards out? There you go. Enjoy! *walks away*

I've played WarThunder quite a bit and love it. There's one nagging issue, besides the lousy joystick support (in a flight combat game?! C'mon, it's 2013! You guys should know better!) is the one shot 'You've been Incapacitated' deal. I fuckin' HATE that! Especially when going against bombers that have rear guns/turrets (which the AI controls), they can take you out in less than 5 seconds with two shots! Your engine is just as vulnerable in that situation as well. I don't know if it's realistic, but it sure is aggravating as all hell gameplay-wise!

Other than that, there isn't another MMO flight combat game out there that can touch this except maybe Rise of Flight, but that's a WW1 game/sim, so not exactly the same thing. I highly recommend WarThunder over WoWp.

Wow, I should've popped into this thread a lot sooner! From what I've seen since before landfall and then after, some estimated reports have winds sustained as high as 205mph AT landfall (which, to me, seems too high to be possible) and others are in the 175-195mph range (which is much more reasonable, though not any less extraordinary). This doesn't account for higher gusts (some, again, have put them in the 230mph range, which is, of course, theoretically possible). The whole problem is that there was no way to accurately tell because there were no official data being collected before and during landfall (such as hurricane hunter aircraft, which aren't used in the West Pacific basin), everything had to be estimated based on satellite, radar and the occasional space-based microwave scan.

What I can't really understand is why there were so many fatalities (if the first casualty estimates turn out to be true - 10,000+). They had nearly a five days warning, the Philippine government was on the ball (for a change) and evacuated all the coastal towns in the projected path of the storm (which was surprisingly accurate) and had supplies and assets on alert to be deployed at a moments notice in multiple cities and municipalities. Yet, an estimated 10 thousand still perish? WTF? This isn't the first 'super' typhoon to hit them this year (there were three before, two in the last three weeks alone) and there have been 28 named storms this year total. This is a normal season for them. Except for the outright strength of the storm, nothing about this was new to them. They all were very aware and experienced, yet 10,000 estimated dead. I don't get it, I really don't...

*Gasp* Oh, knife to the heart! Geez, you cancelled you're pre-order?! In God's name, why?! This is going to be the best X yet! I wish I had signed the NDA for the beta team when the time came but I missed it. Even if it's a little buggy, I can't see Rebirth being any worse than the best damn space-combat/trading sim around! Honestly, Egosoft should get all the support they can cause, at the moment, they're pretty much the only ones, commercially, holding up the space-sim genre. (Yes, there are Indie titles out and coming and of course, the big gun's Elite and Star Citizen in two years or so, but right now, there's nothing out there that can touch X)

Not that I'm advocating cheating (perish the thought! *thinks back to the fact that he's cheated in every single single-player game he's ever played* heh) but if you look at the video (and can stand the guy's 'uh, but ya' over and over and over and...ARGH!) at about 1:42, you'll see that it says that if you leave a job too many times without finishing it, you'll be put in the pool as well. I wouldn't say that's cheating, just being a pain in the ass...fine line? *shrugs*

7. Re: Out of the Blue Nov 8, 2013, 11:25 Rigs

Kind of irrelevant but in ALL of my gaming on my 4870, 5770 and now 7850, my fan speeds have never gone above 60% in any situation other than me putting it there manually. I know this because of the sound, especially with my 7850. At 65%, it starts to have this low-pitched 'whine' that gets louder as the fan gets faster. At 60% and below, it's not there at all. On my 4870 and 5770, I've looked over the logs after long runs in Just Cause 2, Crysis2 and 3, Arkham 'whatever', Dead Space 2 and 3, Battlefield 3, STO and SWTOR, and Far Cry 3/Blood Dragon...at no time did it go above 65%. So them maxing the cards at 47% (or whatever) is not that big of a deal from what I've experienced. Obviously, the R9 290 is a new part and as such, works somewhat differently, so there might be, indeed, a need for it to go to 100% but I can't imagine what, exactly, other than extreme overclocking... *shrugs*

Give AMD some credit. They designed the damn thing, I would think they'd kinda know what they're doing, yes?

They also made a specific statement that the XBone has an embargo on it so they can't review it. WTF?

Cause they know it's gonna look like ass on a new Xbone and if that gets out, it'll kill what little momentum they have to sell units...

13. Re: Out of the Blue Oct 30, 2013, 15:09 Rigs

Whenever I start a new game, I immediately head for the graphics options and mess with the v-sync and shadow settings. For some reason, shadows always seem to kill the frame rate, across the board. I have found very few games that it didn't affect. Lately I've spent in-ordinate amounts of time in Minecraft (yeah, yeah, I know) and I always turn off v-sync, and AF. Typically I would keep AF to 16x but then I turned it off one day, my fps shot up like 50 and I sat there looking like Keano Reeves. I was under the mistaken impression (for like 10 YEARS!) that AF had little effect on performance. Duh. So now that's something I watch for too. In graphically heavy games like GTA and BF3, shadows, AF, v-sync and AA go OFF or to very LOW settings and then I step them up after playing for a while...

So, basically, I just do the same thing everyone else does and contributed nothing to the conversation...

Uh... not really?
EA didn't "acquire" this studio, EA founded this studio. Then they decided it would be good to call this studio "BioWare," even though it had nothing to do with BioWare. Then they renamed it because it had nothing to do with BioWare. Then they closed it.

But it certainly does not belong on the list of studios they bought and closed, because they never bought it. You're complaining about something by making giant assumptions that aren't even remotely correct yet could have been easily Googleable (we call this a RollinThundr.) EA does lots of dumb, obnoxious things. Don't mislabel this.

While it's all but impossible to mine bitcoins nowadays with anything but a dedicated 'miner' (as has been mentioned earlier) and it will only get less profitable as time goes on, the new 'thing' is an off-shoot of bitcoins - litecoins. From what I've read, they're like what bitcoins were when it started and, if I understand it correctly, is just a rewind of bitcoin mining back to where it was years ago so it might be profitable again with a PC. I would look into that and forget about bitcoins...
