Are you refering to the unnamed one, the thrice-utterance of whose name summons him?

Creston

Indeed, and Verno just did that very thing by not only saying his name (1), but putting it in bold (2) and italics (3)...Everyone knows damn well he Googles his name every day before he even takes a first-thing-in-the-morning piss...He's probably watching...right now... *crickets* Oh, he's out there, and he's just dying to grab a piece of beloved gaming history and run it through his wringer-of-DOOM with all the gall of Uwe Boll himself... *puts tin hat on*

Indeed...I've said the same numerous times when asked why I don't get 'into the industry' that I'm always talking about. Precisely because I don't want it to become a job. It's like when I would help anyone that called me with their computer problems, it got to the point that people were calling at 3am about every and any little thing, preferring not to learn how to fix the problem on their own, just rely on me to do it. It got so I was sick of messing with hardware and Windows in general, even on my own system, that I finally put my foot down and said, 'Enough!' and now I don't help nearly as much as I used to and I made it very clear why. Like with any hobby, it can get to the point where you get burnt out on it. And if it's your livelihood, which means you can't just take a break from it and come back later, then you have a serious problem...Not quite what the article is talking about but still...

Also, this is why I don't bash on game devs for games that didn't live to their potential, such as the recent Aliens: Colonial Marines debacle. No matter what came of it, someone obviously put some serious heart and soul into the game. Just because it came together badly doesn't mean people didn't work their asses off to make it. As I said when the reviews started coming in, I feel bad for some of the devs because this can be a soul crusher...

Indeed, I'm not sure why you'd choose FO2 over FOUC as they are the same game, for all intents and purposes. If you have the first two, would I recommend getting UC? No. Unless you can find it for $5 or less, then hell yes. UC is just a re-do (like a 'GOLD' edition') of FO2, with changes made that Jerykk mentioned. IMO, it is the title to go for if you have an itchin' for demo derby, crash racin' or just goofing off. You'd be an idiot not to get one of these if you like any of that, or like having fun, period.

I'm glad to see BugBear is getting back to what they do (and know) best. I remember an article done about the original FO in Next Gen way back, and the final product, while slightly scaled down from the original vision, was everything they'd promised it would be (for once a dev actually delivered on their promises). It's amazing what they accomplished given the specs of systems that were available at the time (circa 2005). They'd be very wise to include an option in the new game for PhysX support. Could you imagine?! And soft-body physics, too, which someone already mentioned. I'm hoping the wrecking engine seen in the movie was just placeholder or scaled down because it doesn't look much different from the FO's of old. Surely, they've advanced in their implementation of visual destruction? A nice Interstate76/Powerslide-type of hybrid game would be welcome as well. I'd certainly go for that! It's a shame that they didn't hire BugBear to work on that 'Auto Combat' MMO that came out years ago. It would've had a better chance of survival and awesomeness with their engine purring beneath the hood...

*thinks about other types of MMO's that could be made with BugBear at the helm*

Hmmm, maybe a Mad Max, RAGE, Interstate76, Powerslide, Full Throttle mix-mash with an apocalyptic backdrop supported with performances by some of the original Mad Max movie actors? Well, assuming we could afford Mel Gibson and Tina Turner...

Is it bad that they didn't show the console itself? Yes. Why? Because that means it hasn't been finalized yet, which also means that things they're talking about right now may or may not be included later. Plus I really wanted to see what kind of design it would have. Some of us do like to admire the designs of our electronics rather than stuff them in a dark, dusty hole for eternity. I'm curious how big (or small) it will be compared to previous versions. PLUS, every launch before it had the console on display. So why not this time? I'd go so far as to say that maybe they're still having problems getting whatever design they have envisioned to actually work with the components installed, as since it's an x86 architecture, they have to really worry about heat constraints, just like us PC users do...

Bungie said 'Destiny' would be released for PS3 and PS4, but why? I'm thinking as time goes on and the PS4 launch nears, Bungie will come out and say that due to blah, blah, blah (some stupid generic reason) that the PS3 version is cancelled so they can concentrate on the PS4 version.

No one has mentioned this, but this kind of puts what Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said in a different light. Many assumed he had seen the real specs of the next-gen systems and thus knew that they would be x86 based, thus his reasoning, correctly, that the PC had bested consoles....in a round-about sort of way, I'll admit...

News Comments > Star Trek: The Video Game Trailer
38. Re: Out of the Blue Feb 17, 2013, 07:38 Rigs

Wow...just wow...I'm talking about some of the comments here, not the trailer, btw...

What we need to do is just agree here and now that, like every other geeky/nerdy debate (Mac vs PC, PC vs Console, Apple vs MS, Coke vs Pepsi, Black vs Whi...wait...) some of us are going to like the new Star Trek movie(s) and some of us aren't. Personally, I liked it very much and it's a fav of mine. I thought the TNG movies just didn't have the 'punch'-factor like the previous TOS/TMP-era movies did, for whatever reason. There were nice glimpses and near misses in all of them but not one movie that people can stand up and say, 'Yeah! That kicked ass!'.

Generations was ok, in parts, glaring plot holes excused. It was nice to see the 'D' in movie form, but it kinda pissed me off that they turned around and blew the damn thing up! They get themselves out of tight squeezes for over 7 years in the series and in one movie, they manage to blow the damn thing to hell?! It felt forced and really unnecessary to me. It was cool, no doubt, but sad that they had to take it that far for their first damn movie...

Then, of course, the 'fan-fav' of the TNG movie circuit, First Contact. You know, for me, personally, the Borg were never a big draw for me to watch. Yes, BoBW was cool to watch, if for seeing all the ship kitbashes all blown to pieces that you'd never seen before, but the Borg themselves were kinda...'meh'. I get it, they're evil. Fine. But it seems like they try to stuff it down my throat whenever they get a little screen time. Dark, moody theme music, funky dark, mechanical look. All well n' good. Just the premise of what they are and how they work in the universe is just kinda plain. You see it in the games, they're always the 'evil race'. No if's, and's or but's about it. No room for much character development. The space combat scene in the beginning is awesome, yes. Of course it's the highlight but the rest of the movie kinda drags on after. And, once again, some of the plot leaves itself looking like Swiss cheese when looked at more closely. This would probably be the closest to TNG's Wrath of Khan as Nemesis just totally missed any redeeming qualities that put it any where near there...

The movies after FC seem to blend together and really aren't very memorable or likeable. Insurrection I found to be on par with TMP's Final Frontier (ouch), just not very enjoyable and certainly not something I'd grab to introduce someone to the Trek universe. Nemesis was a little better but still not that memorable. They had such a diverse history from the series and the TNG universe itself to pull from, like exploring anything for any of the episodes in the TNG series and yet they kept thinking NEW things up instead, which I thought was just dumb. Why no go back and explore some of the more memorable episodes and expand on them? They had the chance to really do some good stuff and choose to just be ho-hum about the whole thing. Not to mention actually going out of their way to retcon some serious head-scratchers. The one that sticks in my mind the most right now is the use of a fucking JOYSTICK in Insurrection to control the Enterprise! That right there showed how much the producers really cared about what they were doing and the movie they were making. I have no doubt the cast would have loved to go back and do something from their series past but Mr. Bigshot himself, Rick Berman, always had the final say in everything and he decided to just pour mud on something that could have been great... (I liken him to Brain Fargo, whom I will NEVER forgive for killing 'Secret of Vulcan Fury' and canning the 'Klingon Academy' dev team just a month and a half after release, shortly after the second patch. Not to mention FORCING them to use the practically broken 'Starfleet Academy' code to build 'KA' from in the first place...)

As for this game, it looks pretty interesting but seeing how the industry as a whole and recent big releases have been lately, I'll hold my opinion until there's something more substantial to give it on...

How about a kickstarted updated to egatrek? That was the shit back in the day...

Funny you mention that, nin, as I've been working on an 'update' to it for a while now. Just design wise as I don't know programming but I have a lot of ideas on how a modern 'EgaTrek' could look like and work. There have been other fan-made games out there in the same spirit as 'EgaTrek'. Check out TrekCore and this list for more. Actually, I feel that the game 'Rules of Engagement 2' is very much in the spirit of a Trek type of game. I play it quite a bit still today, albeit in DOSBOX, but it runs fine and is very detailed. I once had the physical version of it, which had three manuals, one being like over 200 pages and the other around 100. Wish I still had it now! I can't find the manuals anywhere online for 'ROE2'. The first one, yes. Not the second. But if you guys are looking for something like 'EGATrek' just maybe a little better graphics and a little more depth (including managing captains, ships and combat strategy), you can't go wrong with 'ROE2'....

I actually seen this yesterday...looks really good, I have to say. But if we're spoutn' off the racing sims we'd like to see make a come back, I'd have to go with Nascar Racing 2003 (or 2013 now) and Indycar Racing (I know, what a shock, eh?). We haven't had an 'official' NASCAR game on the PC in quite a long time. That drivel on the consoles is pathetic. Since 2003, I've had to run NR2003 until I was sick of seeing it. When the official servers were killed off, I left the scene. Now I sustain my habit with NASCAR mods on other racing games, such as the (very imminent) VHR Racing mod for rFactor (a sim almost as old as NR2003 iteself) and 'online-only' iRacing (which is made with NR2003 as it's foundation, though you can barely tell nowadays, most of the code has been re-written several times over)... Sigh

Just have to do with the Grid's and the SHIFT's and the Dirt's and the GTR's until that day comes...

So, uh, who here has watched the live-action Far Cry 3 series? Even though I love FC3 and play it often, I never watched it until today. I didn't think I'd like it. The guy that does Vaas, though, man, there's some talent. The guy you see in the game is the same in the series. Same actor. It's good stuff, a little morbid, yes? I'm watching it thinking, 'I'm going to hell for enjoying this'...

'I feel like I'm pissing on Hollywood!'

Haha, that's so bad...shows society has gotten almost as bad as the Romans. I expect to see gladiatorial arenas pop up here in the next 30 years...God help me, I'll be in the front row wearing a foam finger that says 'Spartacus!'...

That's what I don't get, Bats. What's happening to this industry? I said the other day that all the recent franchises have faltered. Why? Why is it so hard to put all the pieces together anymore, especially in a Triple-A, multi-million dollar title? You'd think it would be a given, but no. It boggles my mind when I read all the reviews for the games that people were 'sure' would make it and...they didn't. Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, SWTOR, DNF, Rage, Dead Space 3, COD, MOH, now this...WTF is going on?!?

God some of these reviews are as painful to read as the ones for WarZ...are there any more?

Like nin said before, everyone loves a good trainwreck...damn, I do feel bad for the devs though, they seemed to love their game very much, I'm sure some of them are going to take this a little hard...but holy shit, did anyone not see this crap in Q and A? Was there even a Q&A anyway? I always thought that xenomorphs 'saw' by some kind of mix of sonar, radar and sound, and maybe some kind of smell or taste organ. I've never seen a xenomorph with eyes, as we would call them...so this whole 'locating by sound' thing is just stupid in the extreme, they already do that!
