Why? Why Codie, WHY?! God, I wish I could just go up to them, grab them by the shoulders and shake the ever loving fuck out of them! One core tenet of racing is learning the track...every turn, dip, rise and straight, where to pass, where to out-brake, etc...If one is serious about running up front in a race, then you have to know the track! This 'feature' throws that completely out the fuckin' window! I mean, I understand the appeal, in an 'arcadey'-type of way, it gives the game a lot of replay value. And I'll admit it's an interesting 'feature', something I applaud Codie for having the balls to try new things in an established series. That said, it's a 'feature' that I will, personally, turn off right from the get-go (if it's even possible to do so).

Sometimes I wonder what direction they're trying to take their racing games in. They typically have a great graphics, sound and physics engine, but then they mess it up by doing stupid shit (like DIRT Showdown Puke ). They should either make a full-on sim (like F1 2012) or full-on arcade shit (like DIRT Showdown Puke ) Not this in-between crap. Don't pull out my cockpit view and change the fuckin' track around and then make me fall in love with the graphic and physics engine, dammit!

But the leaders of the free world are under attack from an alien invasion in the land of the free, and itís up to you and your gang to save the world, Saints-style.

This is going to be a disaster...I'm calling it, I love Volition (Freespace FOREVER!) but SR4 is going to be one big clusterfuck... /facepalm

I have not only NOT bought SkyRim, I've never played an Elder Scrolls game - period! Ok, that's a little misleading. I have played Skyrim, somewhat. I got through the character customization and the intro sequence, up 'til your standing at night at the base of a mountain, which I assume is the start of the actual 'game'. That was from a torrent when it was first released and, man, it was BUGGY as all hell! Maybe it was a beta version? I dunno, but I had to click things twice for 'single-click', if it registered at all. The 'pause' menu was a wild ride because of this, as I ended up double clicking things all the time. I suppose that ruined the experience for me. I guess that's what I get for downloading it, eh? Since then, I've been tempted, but like others, I have a pretty large backlog and I'm typically short on time. And most of that time is spent on Euro Truck 2! Speaking of which, where the hell is it on the list?! It just kinda fell off and then disappeared, never to return? Hmph...

As for the older Elder Scrolls titles, I owned MorrowWind but never played it. It was a pack-in with one of my video cards from WAYYYYYYYY back...I thinking either my Voodo2 (Diamond Monster 3D-2) or my Geforce2 MX (Hercules 3D Prophet2). Can't remember...

EDIT: Yeah, it was for the Geforce2 MX as MorrowWind was released in 2002. But not MY Geforce2MX, as I bought mine right after they were released in 2000. No, it was for a friends Geforce2MX 64mb in 2002 when I built their system. (It's all coming back to me. I was tempted to switch my card with his as mine only had 32mb, since he knew little about them and didn't game much, but my conscious ruled out. Stupid conscious! Not that it would have mattered much anyway, as the extra 32mb of video ram probably wasn't a big deal. I got my DELL P4/2.66 in 2004 anyway, so I didn't have long to suffer) But now that I think about it, I did have Daggerfall as well, which was a pack-in with not the Voodoo2 card but the Rendition card (Diamond Stealth S220, which I still have sitting in my closet!) that was also in the system! I forgot about that one...

Stupidity apparently knows no bounds. I had to read that news blurb three frakin' times before I completely understood the situation. This isn't even good enough to be half-assed backwards! It's more like inter-dimension, mirrored inside out - assed upside down! Having DRM for DRM's sake? Can't it just frakin' DIE already?! Obviously no one likes DRM, nor does it actually accomplish the very reason it's implemented! Geezus...

Ok, you guys bitching about controllers just need to stand against the wall, drop the pants and grab the frakin' tape measure and get it over with already! Seriously! This debate has no merit, is not logical and can't be won by either side...so, basically, WTF are you arguing about? Do you honestly think that you're going to say the one thing that the other guy is going to turn around and say, 'Hey, yeah, I never thought about it like that! I'm gonna do it your way from now on!'?!? Geezus, people, grow the frak up...

Besides, everyone knows that PC gaming ain't shit without a trackball...

Whatís offensive to me is when some junkie kid screams about needing controller support for a pc game. Yes that is offensive. You want to play with a controller go play on your console. Itís that simple. If you donít own one, then stop trying to turn your pc into one.

Wow. Thanks, sir, for telling me what I should do with my PC. I guess I'll play Falcon 4 with mouse and keyboard and see how that goes.

What's the matter with playing Falcon4 with the keyboard and mouse?! (Or LockOn for that matter) These newfangled controllers with their buttons and rumbling are just a fad!

Oh, and by the way, *cocks shotgun* Get the hell off my lawn!

Look at this game reminded me of Derek Smart. Where has he been lately, anyway?

You just had to mention his name, didn't you? *shakes head* You are aware he Google's his name daily, right?

Distant Worlds just plain kicks ass! Is it over-priced? A little. But think about it this way...the time you spend in this game is massive! It's super intricate and detailed. It's the 'War in the East'/'War in the Pacific: AE' of space 4x games. They probably would have better success with putting things on STEAM but MATRIX mostly specializes in the niche wargaming genre, which, right now, is very small. Just as adventure games died off a while ago, along with space-sims, the hard core wargaming grognard genre is almost back to 'underground' status, as it was in the 80's when it began. I'm not a fanboy that thinks MATRIX can do no wrong. They can, and have at certain points. But they have their reasons for not making a bigger presence. That said, I would really love if they would put their games on STEAM eventually. Maybe if wargaming comes back 'en vogue' again....or maybe not.

Regardless, I'm seriously psyched about the expansion. I've played Legends to absolute death and then some. Mods help, but it's nice to see DW hasn't been abandoned by MATRIX...

Yeah, they did an interview with Gates recently (don't have the linky ATM...yes, I quickly checked Google but it's not being friendly) and they asked about Ballmer and the state of MS after Win8's release and he showed not one bit of animosity toward Ballmer whatsoever. So there's apparently something that we (the outside public) that we're not seeing that Gates does, because otherwise I'm sure he would've done something to turn MS around. Maybe they think that 'what's-his-name' that was the head of Win8 and was let go, was the problem and now things are back on track? Who knows. I have a lot of faith in Bill Gates. I really do. I see him as a great role model and leader and while he makes missteps like any other human being, he knows the computer industry. He's not going to let MS fail. Count on that...they might falter some, but they'll get back on their feet again. I think Windows9 will be a return to the original Windows7 side of things and this whole 'Metro/Modern' UI business will be either ejected entirely for something different or implemented as a complement to the desktop. I'm pretty sure they realize that having the 'Metro/Modern' side of things being dominate on a desktop system was stupid. For tablets and any other touch-device, fine. For desktop systems, you need a desktop OS. Gates knows that. He's not stupid. I'm sure he's told Ballmer what should be done. Keep in mind we don't see things in OS development 'as they happen', we only see them come to light long after they're implemented, so things might be totally different in the new Windows and we wouldn't know about it for a while...

It's been kind of a boon for me as I HATE talking on the phone. Not sure why, but in the last few years I've just started to hate the phone. Maybe it's indeed because other resources such as chat, email and FB exist that going back to crackling, non-visual communication is not a preferred method anymore...Plus, I've been able to keep in contact with some family I've not otherwise seen or heard from for decades...Oh, and this, of course...

7. Re: Out of the Blue Mar 1, 2013, 21:51 Rigs

I don't understand why (besides being mindful of ancient console limitations, mind you) developers don't always go the Crysis route when designing games and make them to be as detailed and in-depth as a current system (meaning current, not least-common-denominator) can possibly handle and then make options to tone it down to make it playable on current machines, there-by 'future-proofing' titles?! I've NEVER understood that. Though, to be honest, this wasn't as much of a problem before '3D Accelerators' came about. Back in the 386/486 days of old, most games did push the systems to their respective limits and if you had something within' range but not exactly 'cutting-edge', it could usually be dialed back some. (In particular I'm picturing Aces of the Pacific, since it was 'playable' on a low-end 386 at the time, but to get the best possible experience, you needed a hefty 486SX or DX-class, 25-40mhz, but the game was ALL there either way. You weren't missing out on features because you couldn't handle the graphics)...
