you'd think IE and Googles pop up blockers would take care of them
Two words fixes the problem: "hosts file".

Much is made by MS of how it's software engineers are the genius elite, and yet they let this slip thru?:
IE is prone to memory corruption because of the way it handles malformed HTML.
HTML content that contains nested tags without the corresponding closure tags, said Symantec's alert, can trigger the bug.
wtf?! C'mon guys! You learn to handle a 'nesting mismatch' in Junior High Introduction to Programming class!

ghod that's just unbelievable.

In other MS nooz, wonder how many false hits they'll get from this
"Microsoft piracy check comes calling."
Hope the call center in Bangalore is ready for irate Legitimate customers being told they're thieves.

14. no Mac ports - deja vu - Blue's archives Apr 25, 2006, 19:59 FourPak

from Blue's Quake News - August '97
http://www.bluesnews.com/archives/aug97-1.html

MacQuake Maker Closes?
According to a USENET posting apparently written by Lion Entertainment President Douglas Grounds, Lion, the software house working on the Macintosh ports of Quake, Shadow Warrior, Unreal, and Deadlock, is closing up shop, leaving the future of those projects up in the air.
I know several have tried and failed over the years,
are there no full time commercial Mac porting studios
around these days?

23. Miller self-cooling beer Apr 21, 2006, 19:01 FourPak

the bad thing (other than all that dessicant and "gel" that will get thrown into some landfill) is the size:

"The can is about the size of a 16 oz. beer
and holds 10.5 ounces of liquid"

bah, with the current baby-sized American beer bottles you have to drink at least 2 just to get a buzz. Now there'll be even less? Screw the coldness, if they want some popular marketing gimmick they should bring back The Pint!

edit: schematic of this techno-marvel

Nice that he was active and all but...
84-year-olds flying planes (or driving cars) in populated areas is a bad, bad idea.

For some reason this mmog is oddly compelling.

If they can keep a (sur)realistic feel to it and not have it be another general-purpose social metaverse like Second Life, but more of a focused, dark, survival sim with user generated goals, it could be interesting.

Interesting reviewer quotes:
The game functions on many different intellectual levels.

The themes and content of the game are very sophisticated and complex.

The game will definitely be known as the thinking-players MMO.
zow. sign me up.

Eudora email client does this, the free version has small ads in a box on the side. I tried the Paid ad-free version for a year, which enables some kind of Baysien filtering, which never worked very well so i went back to the free version.

edit: what's interesting is all these companies, both game and non-game, are suddenly trying money based schemes, as if the old method of generating profit wasn't good enough any more.

eheh looks pretty clever in a goofy sort of way.
Character Class:
- Pastamancer - With his mastery of the arcane secrets of
Noodlecraft, the Pastamancer is a force to be reckoned with.
- Sauceror - Long engaged in an uneasy truce with the Pastamancers,
the guild of Saucerors protects the secrets of the Ancient Brotherhood of Gravymakers.

lol "Dikshit", great name.

once again we learn that online gambling is EEEEEEVIL because it corupts The Children and gets funneled to Terrorists!!!

Of course dropping $50,000 at the Bellagio on 16-year-old hookers and funneling the money to the Mob fixing games in the "Sports Book" is just... patriotic free market capitalism.

Why the hell would you buy an HD television and get a 4:3 instead of 16:9?
he answered that in the forums -
he was a student at the time, had little cash and found
a 27" 1080i in 4:3 for $300 at circuit city.

Check out that 2006 JPMorgan Global Internet Conference talk by R. Garriott -
FASCINATING global market strategy, especially the last 1/4 where in response to a question about why NCsoft charges for the (Lineage?) client in the US and EU but gives it away in Korea he says "becasue the US customer demands that we charge for the client" !?W!?T!?F!? and then he goes on to explain the logic.
(it's all about having to create a "perceived value".)

also he says CoH is the #2 mmog in the US after WoW.

Looked up NCsoft business pages, the Webcast of their 4Q FY 2005 Earnings Conference Call was pretty interesting, talking about global plans, profit, lead times, studio cancellations, identitiy theft, etc.
http://ncsoft.com/eng/nccompany/ir_webcast_archives.asp
Sounds like they're not making as much $ or growth as they thought.

edit: fun to hear the numbers -
Robert Garriott - City of Villians, end of 05, sold 175,000 units in US and EU combined. bleh.
"there are about 35-40K people in the US who are playing CoV as a stand alone product" (apparently meaning they had not purchased CoH) and it is a profitable product in itself.

i don't spose there's any public, accurate, info on GWs subscriber numbers?
edit: too lazy to look, is ArenaNet publicly traded and if so do they break down subscribers in the annual report?
