I believe you are talking about BeamNG Drive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BId6SR6kiFw
It is still around, but I am not sure if the devs will turn that into a full game or just keep it as a tech and sell it to a dev team to implement it into a race game.

This game (Alpha) is a ton of fun. I would highly recommend to anyone to check it out. Believe they have a free demo available.
Here is my 5 years old son driving
Note at around 2:20 one of the Ai cars stuck on top of the fence

Is this what publishers seriously think works these days...taking pre-orders before you show anything of the game (especially a brand new IP)?

Sounds kind of like Kickstarter doesn't it?

It is a steal! Get it while supplies last. You know you want it!
Also in about 2 months the new DLC comes out and all your friends will move onto that one and noone will play this so get this while you can!

I guess some people much prefer to have big publishers to finance and shape the games they play. I mean EA/Activision knows what gamers want right?
So much better then supporting the devs directly via Kickstarter or Early Access, and have a voice or opinion on how the game turn out at the end.

Newbro, I am not going to call you an ass, I have no idea if you are ass or not. I do think you are missing the point though. This board is notoriously cynical, I don't think anyone here would argue that. In this particular case however the point (as I see it in this thread anyway) is that EA could have done this offline mode in the first month or so after release if they were doing it "for the customers" as opposed to nearly a year later "for the business". Put simply, this is like EA saying the cliche' "Come back baby, I promise I will change this time!". Kinda of hard to take seriously this late in the game. All puns intended.

To spin it another way, I am sure there is a contingent of paying customers who are wondering why they can't get bigger city maps or mult-thread processing or....well you get my point. Existing players want solutions to existing issues. These people paid money for a game with online only use, it stands to reason that it probably isn't their biggest concern. Going with an offline mode is nice for the modding community, and that's great, but when you say for such a long time that something isn't possible and than you suddenly decide to do it at around the same time that it benefits you the most, pretending it is for the customer and not for yourself is a bit of a dick move.

I would be shocked if the folks here didn't jump on it. They should. The time to react to your existing customer base is immediately if your focus really is on the customers, not after you have already bled your core audience dry and need to find a new one to pay the bills with. This is the kind of thing that gets EA voted Worst Company in America.
+1
Very well said

So Dirt3 was good apart from the gkkgjkjwhatever sequences? ...

Those Dirt3 race stages where painfully short and repetitive, after 10 races or so game start to recycle same stages with small modifications. Overall really disappointing if you're after anything more then 5h of racing. In another words - full on consolitis
Agreed those races got really repetitive and boring.
Really hope some of the new racing games like Project CARS or Asseto Corsa or any others will have some rally or offroad races in them.
Some of the tech out there is awesome like SpinTires, devs just have to take advantage of it.

GFWL which they still have yet to remove from it even though it's been promised.
They are probably too busy working on Dirt4 to bother supporting Dirt3 anymore.
They should just start a new series called Drift or Fart or something and put all this gymkhana shit in that game and let Dirt be a rally game ones again.
I agree the rally races were awesome in 3 but that gymkhana shit was just terrible.
I'd love to see some dynamic weather changes in Dirt4 like they did in F1.
Also dynamic day night cycles through the race, start a hill climb race in the afternoon on dry pavement and finish on the top of the hill in snow in the dark. Dynamic damage model, if you hit a tree or something the headlights are out.

We will see how much of that promise actually be carried over into the game.
They've said the same thing before Dirt3 came out too.
Wish they would just get rid of all the car acrobatic shit and put back the hill climb competitions for example.
I will wait for reviews before I give Codemasters money again.

At least for me, CoH seems a lot simpler and arguably boring in comparison.
Agreed.
I like CoH also but MoW is a better game imo. There are so many different things you can do from hijacking the enemy tanks to take weapons off vehicles and use them, etc. It is just an awesome strategy game and the Ai is tough as nails.
MoW Assault Squad and Supreme Commander 1 are my fav. RTS games
