I really don't get the hate against SC2. I own both, and while different, both are good. I've played both well over 100 hours each. I like the midrange experimental units, and the streamlined research tree. Yes, there are less units and thus fewer strategies, but there are days where I just don't have time/energy to play SC 1. Also, I can play SC 2 with my 10 year old, where she struggles a bit more with SC 1's complexity. I'm glad they didn't just make a prettier SC 1.

All that being said, I've got a hankering for a new epic RTS, something complex where you can even design your own units. So here's hoping for SupCom3!

I didn't say I hate SC2 I own it and put quiet a few hours into it, I just prefer SC1 because of how tough it was compared to SC1 and also it was a lot larger (maps, #of units, etc)
I do play some SC2 also when I am tired and don't feel like launching into an epic fight against the AI but I still prefer SC1 over SC2.
I think there's been talks about SC3 a while back but then everything went silent so I am really hoping they will learn from their mistakes and bring an awesome SC game out.
Also ditch the console versions, noone wants to play strategy games on the consoles. Just focus on the PC!

I hope it is another Supreme Commander which will be PC exclusive and a lot more like SC1 was. I loved that game and still play it every now and then against the AI

Just wanted to chirp in. Finished the build yesterday, went for the Intel 330 SSD and gotta say Im very very impressed. I know that fresh OS installs always feel more responsive but this is just brutal.

The rig boots up in 5 seconds or less, everything went flawlessly with the build & Win7 install (although it took me a while to figure out where how to fasten the SSD to its drive-bay-thingie heh). MW:O online runs without any hickups or slowdowns whatsoever at 1080p with everything maxed.

Im a happy bunny, so thanks for all the advice and help!

The other wonderful thing with the SSD is that ones you get more stuff on it, it will still just fly, won't slow down like a regular hard drive when it gets full.
I am using the same SSD you have, I have all my stuff installed and it still flies like when it was empty. My boot up time is around 5 seconds as well. Not much difference between waking the computer up from sleep or boot up.

SATA3 drives will work fine with SATA2 mobos.
For SSDs however don't worry about SATA3. If you only have SATA2 mobo that will be fine, you can not tell the difference between 2 and 3 with the SSD drives.

Errr.... Confused

The SATA3 SSDs are massively faster than the SATA2 ones? Or do you mean to get a SATA3 SSD and connect it to a SATA2 port? I don't even know if that'd work, to be honest.

But there is a pretty goshdarn big difference in speed.

Creston

What I meant was that if you have a SATA 2 motherboard and want to connect your SATA3 SSD drive it will work fine because SATA3 drives are backward compatible.
Yes there is a huge difference in speed between SATA2 and 3 but with the SSD drives you will not notice any real world speed difference unless you are transferring large 50-100Gb files back and forth all the time.
Here is a good article on that topic: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sata-6gbps-performance-sata-3gbps,3110.html

from a dev on the AMA:

we put all of our chips down on the city simulation and on city regional play. That's the heart of the game.

Regardless of what happens, and how many people complain, they aren't going to be removing the always on DRM (aka regional play), they aren't going to add offline mode. As they've said, they've put all the chips down on that. The entire game is designed around that.
I guess the last C&C game wasn't enough for them to be convinced the always online DRM isn't working

Yep I know and this drive I am looking to replace have stuff on it that can be downloaded again so no terrible loss if the drive dies.
I have a NAS with a raid 1 setup where I keep the digital pictures and important backups etc.
Those drives are getting close to 2 years old so I am thinking maybe I should replace those as well just to be safe.

I'll be picking it up on the Steam sale. I think it should hit $5~$10, believe it was $9.99 on the last Steam sale.

Thanks Verno

I've been a WD fanboy in the past 10 or so years. My 4.5 years old 500 Gb black drive died (it was in raid 0) and I got a 1Tb as a replacement from WD.
I might just go for the red WD drive then, I like the Seagate pricing but on the other hand hard drives aren't something I should cheap out on I guess.
I currently have a 1Tb and it is getting full with the games and software and the price difference is so little between the 2-3Tb that it makes sense to just go for the 3Tb.
Hope boxing day sales will bring the red prices down a bit.

What do you guys think of the 3Tb Seagate drives? The ones with the 1Tb discs. I am considering picking one up for my storage drive where all my Steam games and software is installed (I use an SSD for the OS).

Amazon already seems to have started theirs. I especially like Syndicate for $4.99. They must not care that it 'devalues the property'. I'll buy it at that price, so there's at least a few bucks more than they would have had otherwise.
The amazon sale is on for a while now, they also have Hitman for $20 Steam key

Is that a Steam key? I need to know what Amazon games are Steam.
I don't think that game is even available on Steam, it must be Origin key.

Is the Total Recall remake really that bad of a movie? I've loved the original one. I've also loved Fifth Element those movies were so good back in the day. Not sure why there are no good sci fi movies like that anymore. Most new not remake sci fi movies these days are all horror.
