I use Ghostery and Adblock on Chrome. I also use Kaspersky switched from ESET. So far *knocking on wood I didn't have any problems, not even from those sketchy Brazilian fart porn fetish sites

Can't gamestop get in some pretty serious trouble if their staff sells to minors?
Yep except in that case they were selling it to an adult.
Same thing as the liqueur store sells the booze to an adult that buys it for the kids waiting outside. Even if the store clerk knows will they stop the sale because of it? Most like won't happen, especially not in a gamestop where most employees are min wage/just get through the day/doesn't give a flying fuck kind of peeps.

Chrome isn't really any better than IE11 or FF at this point, so I use each interchangeably.
Actually I find Chrome to be significantly faster than FF, I haven't used IE in over a decade.
I like how when I bookmark something at work shows up on my phone and my pc at home too in the bookmarks. I personally don't care what data they collect, these days we are too digitally connected to avoid that stuff. Only way is to go off the grid and live in the bush

I don't think he wants that, and calling him stupid is a bit harsh don't you think?
He is pretty far from stupid imo. It is unfortunate they've dropped the offline play but I also think that this has been made into a much bigger deal than what it actually is.

Actually, I kind of do. You have a wife, and you tell her what media she's allowed to consume?

Does she have to ask your permission to use the bathroom, too, or do you keep her chained to the toilet when she isn't in the kitchen making you a sandwich?

Cool trailer, it looks fun. Anyone play it yet? Beamer, didn't you say you were going to get it day one?

Surprising that they're still going with the "skin an animal, and just pull a chunk of top sirloin out of it" routine. They pretended that was deliberate in FC3 to blablabla something about subverting game tropes blablabla lead writer was fucking nuts blablabla, but they're still doing the same thing here. Apparently pulling away a skin and relayering the slaughtered animal with a skinned texture is too much work?

The heal yourself animation is also the same as FC3 was. Pulling the same bullet out of your arm every few seconds.

I've read the PCG review of this expansion yesterday and it seems like it is not a bad one. It is rare to see SP expansions for games like this these days.
I might grab this

E:D looks like a nice enough game but nothing I've seen suggests it's anywhere close to SC in any respect (gameplay, graphics, userbase, depth, etc), nor would I expect it to given it was developed at a fraction of the budget.

You are 100% right.

ED is currently nearly finished while SC is a hangar, and limited dog fighting module.

ED is certainly not anywhere close to SC. It's light years ahead.

Nowhere can I find any reference to offline player on the Kickstarter page. All I can find is a reference to being able to play without connecting to the galaxy server but that's different to supporting offline play. The change seems to be that connecting to the galaxy server is now required, which is certainly a change from the original pledge but very different to offline play being removed.
Yes I stand corrected, I've mis understood the issue there for a minute.

I hope you guys understand that there is still single player as in you vs Ai and you do not see a single human player in the game.
This decision they've made is only mean even for the single player game you need an internet connection. It does not mean there is only PvP or PvE in the selection of game modes.

This might help clarify a few things

First, let me be precisely clear about this, as Iíve already seen some misinformation in the online media. It does not mean that PvP and PvE are the only options. The single player ĎSoloí mode remains (which Iíve indicated before will be my preference). This decision has no bearing on multiplayer versus singleplayer.
What has been lost is the ability to play the game in situations where you either do not have an internet connection (e.g. whilst travelling, or perhaps in areas where internet bandwidth is poor and unreliable) or do not want to be connected (personal preference or security concerns).

Goddam, another thread of people that hang out on the internet all day bitching about a game that forces you to hang out on the internet all day. Just accept that you have no power and no privacy and no choice. You'll be happier.

Troll harder. That's laughably untrue and everyone knows it.

Yeah, that was pretty trolly. However, my point is that a vast majority of game released in the last 30 years have incredibly restrictive EULA's that limit your rights to a license to utilize the code. You have no power and no ownership of anything except hardware. There's no point in getting pissy about it again and again and again when a dev/publisher exercises their rights under a contract you agreed to in the first place. It's just so old.
I don't think that is the problem. The problem is they are changing fundamental parts of the game that was promised in the kickstarter stage.
To put it simply, what they are delivering isn't the game I've backed at the beginning.
If they've come forward with this news earlier I am pretty sure this wouldn't have been as big of a deal as it is now.
It's like you are funding a single player game that the devs turn into an mmo weeks before it's release.

However part of me wonders if they wouldn't be better cancelling the game as it stands, refunding preorders and talking to NC-Soft.
So you are assuming they are able to just refund backers money? I thought that money from the backers went towards developing the game.
