I'm with you on that... I have backed both ED and SC and I do not understand at all the adulation with ED, it really does feel like they are not playing the same game I am.
To each their own.
For me personally SC dogfight = pure frustration
ED dogfight = fun and adrenaline rush
I don't expect anyone to share my opinion but for me personally ED is a far more entertaining game at this point than SC is.
I know none of the games are finished yet and I hope SC will turn out to be a great game too, but the 2 gazillion different direction that game goes from MMO to space combat to fps I am a bit concerned about it becoming a jack of all trades master of none. I put $40 into it so no biggie, but I'd still like to see them succeed.

This fps reveal video didn't really do much for me, the one they've showed a while back where a ship docks at a planet you get out and check the market and stuff was far more impressive to me.

So is that a thing? Using supercruise during combat? That first overshoot almost cost the guy his ship.
No he intercepted the guy in supercruise. The Ai always had this ability to pull you out of supercruise scan your cargo and start a combat, but this is a new ability to players.
Yeah ram the other ship took his shields down but that may have been just a fluke where he got dropped from supercruise not sure if that would work like that every single time
I really have to assemble my X-55 and TrackIR and get back into playing Elite

Oh joy. Just what I want to do. Hide in a fucking crate for 2-3 hours until a scavenger party comes along on the off chance that they don't scan the cargo.

I don't see the problem. I'd just pull out my phone and play Candy Crush for a few hours while I waited.
They need to add an in-game Candy Crush, let's call it the iPhone module, so you can game while you game.
I think you guys just figured out the next stretch goal.

So if I preorder this game on Steam for $65 CDN I get to play it early! Wow. I guess the day0 DLC isn't enough to lure people in to buy CoD anymore, playing the game early definitely will!

I enjoy these videos but I am not sure how much of those features I'd notice while playing the game when there is no side by side comparison.

Feel your pain there. The story and voice acting is absolutely terrible. I normally don't care about stories in games like this but this one is so bad it distracts me.

No with my old Logitech Extreme 3D
The saitek is very accurate. Here are some of my practice runs with the X-55 a few days after I got it.

As pretty as the game is, it's the sound that makes me smile. I just love the purr of the engines as you speed up or slow down.

Yeah the sounds are awesome.
Tbh I haven't been playing beta 2 at all because I didn't have time and I've just moved so my X55 is still in boxes. I've installed beta 3 last night and hopefully I will give it a try soon.
There seems to be a lot of changes and improvements, and bugs of course as the game gets more complex.
But it is okay I know they will fix them up.

A good HOTAS can make a lot of difference and they do not have to cost an arm and leg either. I hear a lot of people likes this.
I am using a Saitek X-55 and after a week or so I've switched back to my old Logitech joystick and couldn't believe how inaccurate that was. Couldn't hit shit.

For those of you guys having trouble with combat. Just keep practicing. It takes a little time to get used to it but ones you get a hang of it, it is super satisfying to dogfight. I did have to dedicate a few nights to practice dogfighting but it's well worth it.
Things like a decent HOTAS and TrackIR will help but I have seen guys flying with kb/m and doing really well. Just practice practice practice.

Even if you are just planning to be a trader or any other non combatant in Elite, having the skills to fly your ship efficiently will benefit you on the long run. Even traders get intercepted by pirates and have to do a speed docking every ones in a while. Having the skills to out manuever and get away from pirates can make a difference between a big paycheque or a big hole in your wallet.

I had to pay $150.00 to play Alpha of Elite.
or $75.00 to play Beta.

I had to pay $35.00 to have Star Citizen Alpha/beta

what's the problem?
There is no problem and you didn't "have to" pay for anything you decided to do because you want to support the game devs to make the best game possible without the publishers input. Awesome!
With that said $150 for Elite was a far better investment than the $35 for SC

This is why you don't buy games when they are released. You buy them 6 months down the road all patched up with a bunch of DLC for half the original price.

This is the game that made me a man. If you play this game and successfully complete all of the secret Emperor missions then you, too, will be a man, my son.
Yeah I was just reading that comment too, pretty funny.
