News Comments > Star Citizen at $49M; Ongoing Funding Explained
2. Re: Star Citizen at $49M; Ongoing Funding Explained Aug 5, 2014, 09:43 SpectralMeat

I kind of lost interest in this project and the amount of money it collected.
It is awesome to show off the power of PC gamers when it comes to funding to shove it in the console companies face, but at the same time I really wish he would focus on making the game instead of all the other crap he does, like those web tv things and commercials and new ship designs etc.
Sure the new ships are awesome but until you have a game to play those in it is kinda ass backwards to work on those imo.
Just like you have to build a house from the foundation up not from the roof down.

I was joking.
I know man, I was just making the point that just because you see someone walking out of BestBuy with an Xbone(r) doesn't mean they did not do their research, or doesn't know any better.

I guess that means 50% of us are stupid, while the rest of the world is only 33% stupid. Heh.
I don't think stupidity has as much to do with it as you imply, it is mostly the games that are still exclusive to one console that matters more for people than hardware specs.
I have friends that own the Xbone because they've liked the 360 a lot more than the PS3 and some of the games like Forza, or Halo only available on the Xbone.
Some of their friends are also own the Xbone not the PS4 so for them the decision was simple, go where your friends go.

At the end of the day it is all about the games. If Microsoft manages to secure some killer first party devs they will easily turn this around.
At least now they are on the right track with pricing and "features" not locked to stupid always online crap. Unfortunately the damage is already done, and not everyone wants to own more than 1 console.

So why on earth would a PC player buy 2014, if 2015 is going to be a 'next-gen' version only, and will come out soon(ish) thereafter?

It is also for the PC
By the sound of this announcement it will be a DLC update for (hopefully) a fraction of the cost.

The latest F1 games were pretty good actually. If you want to challenge yourself shut off all the assists.
The dirt and Grid series were all fluff though, but Autosport is good. It is fun.

Watched some gameplay vids of Destiny last night because everyone I know who was in the beta was raving about it.
Looks pretty cool.
As for PS4 outsold the Xbone 3 to 1 well "deal with it" should have seen it coming.

I do have some hope in Project Cars though.
That and Asseto Corsa seem to be on the right track, although only Project Cars will be available on the consoles

I am looking at getting a PS4 for some other games and I might grab this game for it.
I wonder if my G27 steering wheel will work.

Although with the price tag of $69.99 + tax on "next gen" console games here in Canada it makes me think really hard about buying a console at all.

I am a backer of both SC and Elite and to be honest with you I like the way Elite looks a lot more. It runs better on my system too.
Maybe I am just biased but the color scheme the way the ships leave those smoke trails, the visual effects of the heat wents and shield etc just gives me goose bumps.
Not to mention the sound effects and engine sounds, just kicks so much ass.

I think it might be a bit early to count SC out.
At this point SC is not even close to Elite.
By 2016 proposed release I am sure SC will be great but we will be playing the 6th expansion pack for Elite at that point.

My points is not about the single player, its about the ability for it to be online with friends and in a private group, that functionality launched yesterday.

My reply that you quoted and said not the case was regarding someone asking about the MP and if it is like EVE online.

Like I said in the final game not in the beta
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2721

How will single player work? Will I need to connect to a server to play?
The galaxy for Elite: Dangerous is a shared universe maintained by a central server. All of the meta data for the galaxy is shared between players. This includes the galaxy itself as well as transient information like economies. The aim here is that a player's actions will influence the development of the galaxy, without necessarily having to play multiplayer.

The other important aspect for us is that we can seed the galaxy with events, often these events will be triggered by player actions. With a living breathing galaxy players can discover new and interesting things long after they have started playing.

Update! The above is the intended single player experience. However it will be possible to have a single player game without connecting to the galaxy server. You won't get the features of the evolving galaxy (although we will investigate minimising those differences) and you probably won't be able to sync between server and non-server (again we'll investigate).

How's the PvP work? Is it 100% voluntary or is it like EVE where you are at risk everywhere, just more risk in certain places (can I be suicide-ganked in a safe area)?
Yep just like EVE
The difference here is that you can play completely offline single player where everyone around you are npc. (in the final game I mean not in the beta)
You will still get ganked though, the npc pirates are pretty good. They will pull you out of supercruise and demand your cargo

They said it's something they hope to implement "later." I don't think it ever got more precise than that.
It is one of the expansions after release.

No the next release "gamma?" will be feature complete.
Beta will have different phases, Alpha had 3, where they will add new features in and get the game ready for release later this year.
Ones the game hits gamma stage there won't be anymore character wipes either.

It is an open world game so no story line. If you do not enjoy taking on missions, mine goods then sell them for profit or trade and figure out trade routes for max profit while fending off pirates, than this game is probably not for you.
Think of it as EVE Online in first person view.

I haven't had much time to play lately, but I am looking forward to get back into it.
