this game reminds me of Rise of the Triad somewhat, that gritty/dark tone to the environment. Looks good.
We need more simple shooters like this, the choice isnt that great for top tier game engine games. In the old days you could choose from Doom/Rott...and lets not forget Duke Nukem! And then there was that one BUILD Engine game w/the asian character called "Lo Wang" oh what a classic that one was.
Nevermind, im on crack.

Wow, mention Microsoft, and the retards come out faster than if you mention Counterstrike. Now THATS saying something!
Fact: Nobody here knows shit about IPv6 Fact: Nobody here knows shit about Windows, Longhorn, or even XP for that matter.
Proof: I read the posts underneath this one.
You know what is worse than nerds ranting about this and that? When they obviously spend all this time thinking, and discussing these subjects, yet still dont have the foggiest fucking clue what they are talking about.
Truly sad.

ANYWAY, back to the issue, which is the 64-bit port. Keep em comin boys! Lets give 3 cheers for innovation, and hope AMD delivers this bad boy.
[me dreads the world of Intel only, we would all probably be at 500mhz today]

Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, but this game is in the eye of my arse. That is one awesome quote, might I be able to steal it in the future perchance?
Btw- Freelancer is "okay", and I agree, that can be translated into fury when you can see the effort, vision, money, etc that was put into a product. It should NOT take 4-5 yrs [or whatever ungodly amount of time it took] to produce this game.
It is a game that was designed to be free-form, ala Elite/privateer etc, but was hacked into a Story-based product that does not stand up under closer scrutiny by the more "hardcore" or "demanding" player. And I understand that.
I also just dont give a shit about this stuff anymore. My expectations have been systematically lowered and I just can't get surprised when an "okay" game comes out because that is all I ever expected of Freelancer.
It sounds like I am defending the game there, but i'm not.
I like it, its on my HD, but once i'm done with the story missions I doubt I will play it much longer, and that is a shame. For 50 bucks, people should get more.
That is one thing that makes me look at Eve:Online and wonder "could this be better?". Because it takes much of the same concept, but makes it subscription based, and allows many more people to play, there is more potential for improvement and progress, even if they dont "get it right" when its first released, as many would believe w/such a high potential game like Freelancer.
Unfortunately, a subscription is a big turn-off to a person like me. But who knows, if the game is fun enough, maybe its the only way to support a truly ambitious design these days?

Re: Joystick |

You know what, I can appreciate the joystick arguement for/against as much as any other reasonable individual. But would it really have complicated development ***THAT MUCH*** to add an OPTION for joystick support? Have it OFF by default, fine. But don't dissapoint parts of the core audience [obviously former wing commander players etc] by not allowing it at all. In my opinion, diplomatic solutions will get your game a larger audience than this game having mouse-only.
Having said that, again, I think the full version shows a lot of promise, and ill be checking it out!

in other words- shortsighted individuals.
Oh, and there is one more type of person who claims we don't need 64-bit. Corporations who don't have a viable competitor to AMD's Hammer. That is a)Backward compatible b) efficient and c)affordable.
That company right now seems to be Intel. Its funny though, because, one day Intel is going to have to market 64 bit chips to more people, and what are they going to say then? They will basically have to negate every arguement and piece of Fud they have spat out so far [which is pretty easy to see through, if you have any know-how and a shred of objectivity]
The list goes on and on. At the end of the day though, we will only know when the Hammer is released whether it is a success or not. But saying that it flat out ***isn't needed*** before we're even at that point is pretty closed minded. It displays a lot of ignorance, and either someone was spoon fed that notion by intel, or simply has a naieve view of the world's demand for computer power.

its funny, because the same type of people who are saying that we dont need 64 bit now, are the same type of people who said we didnt need 32-bit color a few years ago. And the same people who said we didnt need hardware transform and lighting.

funny.
i hear what he says about elite though. I dont know why, I thought I was the only person who played/loved that game. I couldnt believe there is/was a PC port of it as well. Gotta track that down some time.
Maybe Eve:Online will be good.
Btw- I like freelancer. Definitely will check out the full.

actually this game is fun, but you have to have a fast PC to truly enjoy it. I find this is moreso the case than even other games out there, despite the fact that its a universal truth.

Good thing, hopefully a solid deal will help DICE to create games even better than BF1942. LOL. That was a good one.
If you've ever dealt w/EA or known anyone who has before on any projects, you have no idea how ludicrous that prospect sounds.

Fredrickson, you really need to shut up now.
Hes been burned, so you need to accept that and get over the fact that one person isn't going to buy ATI. Mmmkay?
[having said that, I have no allegiances either way, and recognize ATI's [current] lead position ]
