And Yes, I understand Notch is fighting a principle, but dammit man, if you want to piss money down a well, why not do something constructive with it and donate it to a charitable cause instead? You know, like Leukemia research?
Court cases set precedents. If a person/entity wants to put their money into something that may change laws and rules for the better then that is their choice and a worthy expenditure. Not all human betterment comes from medical research or feeding a starving child. The 'principle' is that we'll all be better off if a company can't litigate over nebulous words/terms.

I think you missed my point.

That was venomhed's point, got your alt's mixed up?

Google are in SO much trouble, scanning the Dead Sea Scrolls without asking Bethesda's permission ti use the name.

I hope the judge gives Mojang costs and Bethesda a thorough reaming!

It has been a long while since we had a voxel engine and hardware has come a long way. Maybe we should get an opinion from Ken Silverman and not Notch.

News Comments > Minecraft Sells 2.5M, Notch Interview
15. Re: Minecraft Sells 2.5M, Notch Interview Jun 14, 2011, 18:25 UnderLord

I bought it because it is an open-ended game with the option to avoid combat and concentrate on building.
Changing it to what the proven market don't want is crazy.
What next, how to win in Second Life?
Still, I hear the source code is to be released (to selected parties, but how long can you keep the genie in the bottle?), someone will be smart enough to make a clone with the original gameplay if Notch isn't.

"...a browser should be tailor-made to one operating system..."
Tell that to all the 64-bit Vista and Windows 7 users where 64-bit IE9 runs like a dog!

I really hope China cracks down on people ripping off Windows... so that they all become good law-abiding Linux users!.
Microsoft allows Windows piracy in China expressly to keep other OS adoption down - Pirates: Good for Microsoft, great for open sourcers

Whatever. People just don't want 3D TV - World+Dog says 'no thanks' to 3D TV

Edit -
If anyone cares, there is a reason LCD prices came down lately Flatscreen makers fined 649m for price fixing

I suspect that pricing might have more to do with the increased uptake of LCDs over time than the capabilities.

Maybe they also realise they'll have to merge to compete with AMD/ATI's APU. Now THAT would be news!

It's the kind of game where you have to make your own fun.

That's the best description I've read. You have to use your imagination a bit and want to create things and explore.

Well that explains why so many Second Life people get into it straight away then. :-)

"Eventually, all nanotechnology has to face its limits, and Micron and others have said that NAND flash processing will be approaching that wall in about five years"

BS! Multi-level cells are way less reliable stan sing;e-level storage cells and reducing the maximum number of electrons by using smaller feature sizes makes it worse.
So much so that ClearNand has to use ECC just to pass muster.
I think I'll be skipping high-density MLC products thanks.
