The Automatic Gearbox is one of the worst things ever invented.
If you cant drive and manage a manual gearbox, you probably lack the coordination, spatial skills and spare mental capacity to be simultaneously aware of the road situation to be able to drive safely anyway. imnsho

9. Nintendo DSi region locked Oct 8, 2008, 00:38 UnderLord

I hope that works both ways, so US games will be region coded not to play in Japan.
Then we'll see how they like dealing with unhappy customers on their own doorstep.

1. solid-state drive Oct 1, 2008, 19:26 UnderLord

What's the betting that it is 7% short?
Not a solid-state 2^37 bytes (137,438,953,472) but a HDD 128,000,000,000 bytes.

Darned right, what you *should* do is send in a cheque with no signature and tell them you'll be sending a patch to fix that 'real soon now'.
You won't get the game, but they *might* get the message.

Oh My! I'll bet Apple are shaking in their shoes at the prospect of losing such a huge market.... NOT!

Yep, they'd definitely like their customers to be 'Pre-Owned'.
We'd better stop that shit quick-smart or the next second-hand car you buy will include an extra slice back to the motor manufacturer!

1. Burton's Alice Sep 26, 2008, 02:27 UnderLord

Damn Disney! I'd much prefer American McGees Alice as a movie.
Depp could be the Cheshire Cat and, just maybe, Helena Bonham Carter as a blonde could be a suitably odd Alice.

3. A little inconsistency Sep 21, 2008, 20:13 UnderLord

Because new Blues News articles are added at the top, I read from the bottom upwards, as I suspect most regular readers do.
So it's a bit odd reading an entry starting "Trine Game Studios also reveals" BEFORE one starting "Trine Game Studios unveils".
I'm just saying.

12. Apples agenda Sep 11, 2008, 22:12 UnderLord

If there was a heap of money to be made from small colour screens and touch capability, the DS would wipe the floor with Apple on the basis of relative price alone.
Apple *talks* about a lot of things, how's that ditching DRM pipedream coming along?

12. No next gen consoles Sep 10, 2008, 20:31 UnderLord

I think MS and Sony have realised what I said months ago, without PC gaming and gaming enthusiasts to drive and finance incremental CPU and GPU development, the cost of making a significantly improved next generation of consoles would be astronomical.
Neither has made any money on this generation and the next generation losses would kill them, they HAVE to support PC gaming, whatever BS they spout.

5. Way too late Sep 7, 2008, 01:43 UnderLord

The Doomsday Engine ( http://www.doomsdayhq.com/ ) for one is a superior Doom/Heretic/Hexen engine that replaces flat monster sprites with 3D models, as well as superior lighting, high-res textures etc.
There is just no real use for this source code other than as an early learning code sample for would-be engine writers, and the Doom sources do that perfectly adequately.

Dell is a member of Texas' PC recycling scheme, and why not too when they're planning to close their PC factories anyway?

I can see why they're suddenly rushing this to find a buyer after so long.
Now that the new direction is looking like being ray-tracing or a hybrid system, this division of labour just won't work for multiple reflected/refracted rays between parts of a scene.

1. Ten-Year PS3 Aug 14, 2008, 00:55 UnderLord

Totally sickening how many folk come out of the woodwork to claim part of the glory now the PS3's chief architect and proponent is out of the picture and it is demosntrably a success.
"The ten-year strategy is ingrained in all of us..." even those of us who wanted it abandoned or bastardised not so long ago.

Frankly, I don't believe a word of it, sounds 100% marketing spin to me.
Anyone looking for value for money in low-power X86 CPUs would be looking at Via's Isaiah.

You'd think the scientist types could manage GMT time instead of referring to 'Local time' throughout.
Am is supposed to know the author and where the fuck he lives?

No such BS was necessary for Australia in 2008.
No wonder athletes cheat, with such shining examples of honesty. A bogus event from the beginning.

While they're at it, maybe they could change over to using REAL powers of 2 values for Megabytes and Gigabytes, like those other solid-state memories, RAM.
Despite what their marketing departments tell them, people are not stupid and are not fooled by 1,000,000 bytes to the MB, etc, to claim higher capacities.
