2. Re: Sound Blaster Windows 7 beta driver Apr 27, 2009, 23:32 UnderLord

Out of curiosity, does anybody but the golden-ears crowd still buy sound cards?
I don't think the overhead of driving on-board sound chips is enough to matter in games, and the quality is more than adequate for the masses that find MP3 files good enough.

"Newly-hired executive Johannes Larcher joined Hulu this week to lead the site's expansion into international markets"

I guess the management of Hulu now agree with my previous complaint that they weren't honouring the 'www' concept.
No mention of any copyright difficulties to be overcome.

I don't want everything free, I can go and add to their page-views and earn them advertisers cash as well as any US citizen.

The copyrights thing fails when it's their own content and their only cost is bandwidth, it doesn't cost any different to them if the viewer is in the US or Australia.

Everybody in Australia will really miss it... Oh wait, no we bloody won't!
I'll be glad when US firms figure out what 'www' means.

I hope that Schwarzenegger DOES take it to the supreme court so it can be smacked down definitively and give pause to prats like Thomson suckering the ignorant of Utah into supporting his vendetta against the game industry.

Look at orangutans and silverback gorillas in the wild.
They get exercise and have the supposedly ideal diet and they have paunches too.
It's just a primate thing, don't fall for the BS. :-)

If you're going to count Gary Gygax as IT related then you should probably add Michael Crichton (AI and nano) and definitely Arthur C Clarke for his communications satellite work too.

"...many specialists fear that media excitement over Dr Ameisen's theory is obscuring the complex nature of alcoholism..."

Translation:-

Many people in the alcoholism industry can see their gravy-train about to be derailed, or even come to the end of the line.

I liked this bit of ATIs reply - "Negative speculation on improper optimization is unwarranted. "

That would totally be because you (and Nvidia) have such practices on your Permanent Record!

Or did you think that we'd have forgotten by now?

3. WinRAR Oct 9, 2008, 20:57 UnderLord

I gave up on WinRAR when I downloaded multi-file RAR archives and it couldn't open them.
ZipZag did the job effortlessly and integrates very nicely with Windows, even Vista, and is much better than native Zip support with support for a heap of Archive formats.

Somehow I posted this in 92072 first, I hope that was my mistake and not a bug!

4. 360 Blu-ray Oct 9, 2008, 20:50 UnderLord

Apparently Microsoft didn't read my comment that a high-capacity drive for HD was a necessity because of download caps in Australia. (yes I posted on that,no I'm not being serious).
But given how download caps are being implemented in the US now, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they ARE building up stock of Blu-ray drives for 360's in time for a marketing blitz this Christmas.
