Waitaminute: http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=29734

Why is it that when I follow this link it takes me to the 'add a comment' form instead of the discussion thread itself?
That's the default for stories that have no comments. Try any of today's stories without comments, you'll get the same thing.

Where is the torrent?!
The first entry in the 3D Gamers mirrors list is for BitTorrent, as usual for popular files. What's that you say? Oh, alright, here's the link.

Yup... I worked here full-time until Aug 2002 and 3D Gamers was a hobby. Now I'm working on 3D Gamers full-time and sending news to Blue is a hobby.

I have downloaded two separate .zip files off Pixel and NuclearDays, they are both corrupt files!
Yes, there's a corrupt copy floating around (Worthplaying has it too) that's one byte too small, the executable zip generates the CRC error during unpacking. I mentioned this to Blue when I sent in my mirror, but he choose not to include the warning and simply list all mirrors good and bad, unfortunately. Although I acknowledge it's impossible for him to distinguish between the two by testing all of them.

The working version of the demo is a .exe file (not zipped) of 230,211,072 bytes, such as the one on 3D Gamers and Gamer's Hell.

Presuming the 3DG spam gods are not smiting you...
Correction: anti-spam gods.

All bluesnews.com mail goes through the same mail server so different emails within that domain make no difference indeed. Anyone getting unjustly blocked (in their opinion) should paste the full bounce mail with all headers to our feedback page and we'll see if that particular block can be lifted (in our opinion).

On 3dGamers site, they mention the 25MB version in their news story, but their download page only contains links to the 468MB version (as of Noon CST).
Our copy is 444 MB, or 465,701,471 bytes. Maybe you looked at that number? The first link in our mirrors list is the BitTorrent, as usual for big demos.

Anyone know if theres any new maps here? Or is it just bugfixes?
As noted in my news story ( http://www.3dgamers.com/news/more/1063715114/ ) it contains the same Tutorial and the full Train mission from the Central Europe campaign as before.

I hate to make accusations that are unfounded, but does 3D Gamers have anything to do with bluesnews.com not posting my Filerush links? I apologize if I'm in error.
I was going to follow up to your earlier post, but this one will do too. I don't mind you bringing that up, your mail got through fine, but the reason the link wasn't included in this mirrors list is because you didn't mirror the same steaminstall_cs.exe file all those sites have.

Instead you have a separate collection of just the cache files, homebrew by some user (I know, I grabbed it from you to check ;)). Since this is a story about the Steam CS installer as released by Valve, I recommended in this case to Blue that your mirror was not included, and since I used to be files admin on this site, I guess he listened.

That is not to say you have a bogus file, but apparently users need to know what they're doing in order to use it.

That's all there is to it.

So basically I have to download the new CS installer and then I have to download Steam and then install both of them before I can play?
Nope, after downloading/installing this file, you'll have Steam as well. It's actually the same small client as earlier this week, but with all the cache files for HL and CS included.

3D Gamers has torrents going for all popular files, including this one. Use the first entry in the mirrors list.

News Comments > Homeworld 2 Demo Released
24. Re: bittorrent link... Sep 3, 2003, 20:11  Xymph

I'm seeding the file from home (in addition to our two main seed servers) and I'm seeing speeds for other people in the swarm vary from 10 to 100+ KB/s, so YMMV.

But BitTorrent is indeed a slow starter, and a swarm for a given file only really gets going once the first few dozen people completed their download and keep sharing.

I was all ready to go that route, but then they brought up the requirement that I had to get a 3d Gamers tattoo on my left arm and I was like nuh huh!
Hehe, if only it were that simple. But anyway, we talked about it but Hood simply has different ideas of what's interesting to put up a torrent for than we do, and the areas only overlap sometimes for demos such as this. Oh well.

I hope the HW2 demo is released soon with several mirrors.
That seems to be Sierra's plan indeed, we should have it online as soon as it's officially released.
And is there any multiplayer in this demo?
Nope.

What if you already have the file from another source and would like to share it via BT? Can you do that?
Yes: point your browser at the .torrent (or 'Save As' it to disk, and then double-click it - convenient if you'd need your connection freed up for a while and then like to resume sharing). In the BT client's 'Save As' dialog, select the already completed demo download also on your disk. The client will verify the file against the BT tracker, and then share it.

25. Re: incremental patch Aug 29, 2003, 18:12  Xymph

Most of the cases where there have been probs are off the 3D Gamers incremental patch
I re-verified our copy of the file with both the original at EA's distribution ftp and the one on ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/patches/ , and they're all identical, so it seems unlikely that the install problem is just with copies of the patch downloaded from 3D Gamers. But if anyone has more information like what server a corrupt patch was downloaded from, I'll look further.

I also notified EA about a (possible) problem with the incremental patch and they're looking into it.

Several more sites were asked but didn't/couldn't decide to participate.
I also noticed how bit torrent sites like gametab.com and filerush.com weren't asked to be added to the list even though they both get substantial download numbers these days. I guess since we don't offer pay services we're not worthy.
First of all, 3D Gamers supports BitTorrent and has no paid download service so that has nothing to do with it. It was a simple matter of not thinking of everyone we could ask about this. Sorry if that hurt your feelings, but you weren't the only one we forgot to contact.

Don't worry about external links to the .torrent anymore, those get redirected to the frontpage.

But I'm sorry about the Gator pop-up, one of our ad providers snuck that in without our permission, and we're doing our best to get it removed again.

Maybe that's because they changed the name three times over. It started as "Freedom: Battle for Liberty Island", then became "Freedom: Soldiers of Liberty", and then just two months ago "Freedom Fighters".

Ahh, the power of marketing.
