Deus Ex Demo

Deus Ex Demo Nov 23, 2003, 01:39

What the hell have they done to multi-tools? Is this Deus Ex 2 or Harry Potter???? It seriously looks like some kind of magic wand spell on a doorknob/keypad.

I'm running on a low end 2 year old GF3 Ti200, but I got a somewhat decent framerate on 800x600 after setting lighting and shadow quality to low (I didn't really notice the lighting quality difference, but shadow on low = no shadow )

The 'hacking' interface has been utterly abolished. At least they showed some scrolling characters in the original..

Overall, I am now far less excited for the final release. I think the game (if the release is the same stuff as this) will get an OK rating, but probably not GOTY. 'Universal Ammo' is somewhat stupid, and I sincerely miss headshots..... I really love the physics, though. Just pick up a body, look straight up, and throw it somewhere outside. It has really nice rag-doll effects. But other than that.... this game might not have that much going for it. Maybe I just need a better system.

EDIT- Oh yeah. The sound kinda sucked too. When I was talking to Sid Black (or whatever his name is), one of his lines made it sound like we were inside a tin can, and the other was at a whisper..... My sound card is not THAT bad. I hope this is a demo bug.

"Joking aside, I know that being colorblind doesn't mean that the person only sees things in shades of gray, but what I don't know is whether or not some colorblind people have it worse than others - perhaps to the point of seeing no color at all."

I'm not really sure myself if people can be colorblind to the extreme of seeing only black and white, but I know that it's not such a bad thing to be color blind. The Army is looking for color blind snipers, because they can detect motion easily- that enemy camoflauge doesn't fool them one bit.

Once I left my heatsink motherboard mounts (I was installing a socket A Alpha Pal-8045) still screwed into my mobo when I RMAed it. That's the last I could use of THAT heatsink.

"Could the US possibly be any MORE provocative? It's almost as if they're trying to force Korea into making a move.

HELLO!?! We're talking about nuclear freakin' weapons."

An excellent point, crispy. Does anyone know what the heck happened after Bush broke that Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty with Russia? Did he actually BUILD more anti-ballistic sites, or just break the treaty? Are we safe from ballistic missiles, so our only real concern right now is terrorists? No, this is not a rhetorical question. Please respond if you know.

"If there was no oil reserve in Iraq, the United States would never go there...even if the iraqi people were tortured each days!

Come on...you can go to war but at least, be honest and tell the world (and your own people) the real reason of it. "

Of COURSE the oil is beneficiary, but we need a good reason that most other countries will buy. And we found one. The educated people know the real reason. That's good enough. That's WAR. It's what made this country.

Babar:
"So let me get this straight. We are bombing Iraq with WOMD because he won't get rid of his WOMD. We are disobeying the UN to force Iraq to obey the UN. Should Russia, China, France and Germany start bombing us for using WOMD and not complying with the UN? If not, why not?"

I wouldn't say we are using WOMD to attack Iraq- we are just using hundreds small missiles (tomahawks, I think). The reason that other U.N. members should not attack us for having WOMD is that we didn't sign a big fat 'cease-fire' that says we won't have any. Iraq did.

" If this war is all about Iraq having WOMD why aren't we bombing the crap out of North Korea? They threatened us with nuclear war today which is a whole lot more than Iraq ever did to us."

I sincerely doubt North Korea will EVER be touched without resorting to a World War III. The reason I say that is North Korea is very close to China, and China is not to be touched.

">We WILL leave the Iraqi people better then what they were before we came. And frankly, that is all that matters to me.

Yeah, I'm sure these 2 are much better off http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2003/03/1586174.php "

It's horrible that civillians had to die, but how many thousands of those people has Saddam already killed? Are you one of those kinds of people who believes that taking babies from the womb is okay, but killing animals for feeding purposes is wrong?

Well said, Karrillion. However, I would also like to extend just a little on your first point of 'mass destructive weapons'.
1) The first gulf war was initiated after Iraq invaded Kuwait on August 2nd, 1990. Forty-six years after the beginning of WWII, the world has learned that appeasement is bullcrap. When the world appeased the hostility of Germany, they were able to grab valuable footholds in Europe. After the invasion of Poland, however, they decided enough is enough. A very similar thing happened to spark the Gulf War. On November 29th of 1990, The UN security council authorized all means necessary to remove the Iraqi troops from Kuwait. After Kuwait was liberated of Iraqi presence, a ceasefire was issued.
"The U.N. cease-fire resolution commands Iraq to 'unconditionally' rid itself of weapons of mass destruction and submit to inspectors. Baghdad accepted the agreement in 1991 as a condition for a cease-fire."
But for years on end he rejected U.N. weapon inspectors. Proving in the past that they have a hostile nature, the U.S. has decided that enough time has passed that they could pose a serious threat, and decided to solve the matter by force. And for those who claim Iraq doesn't have such weapons- 2 scud missiles fired toward Kuwait have been shot down. The scud missiles Iraq doesn't have.

"#15, it's your stupidity. The original demo was only 100mb."
Thanks for clearing that up, Squirmer. I see now where my idiocy came from- the pcgamer said the demo needed 300mb, but I now realize that's AFTER installation. But the actual INSTALL file (which I didn't download) must be 100mb. Oh well.

Marky- "Your quote from earlier on was the fact that 'Gamecube' made better hardware than anyone else. Where, in fact, hardware wise the edge hands down goes to Xbox. Also not pointed out in those numbers is the fact taht the Xbox comes with built in broadband, and a hard-drive, ability to play your own soundtrack, dvd playback etc etc."

Well, if you're posting or reading these forums now, chances are you already HAVE 'a hard-drive, ability to play your own soundtrack, dvd playback etc etc.' from your PC. DVD-ROMS are pretty standard- they have been for about 4 years. And about the built in broadband - Nintendo didn't really invest highly with putting their consoles online, because they didn't see much profit in it. I think I remember reading something a while back- Microsoft was losing money for every Xbox they sold. If this is true, I think Nintendo was correct in their decision. Nintendo's hardware is not better hardware specification wise, but they sure did put alot of thought into mass production for cheaper prices, debuting at only $200. Besides, it doesn't really matter how much power xbox HAS, it only matters how much power the games use. Otherwise, that's just some wasted cycles. I think that's why Xbox was selling so well. IMO, people bought xbox just because it was acclaimed 'fastest console', not necessarily putting to thought WHO was developing games for it. However, these people lucked out, because many game producers are creating (and have created) games for PS2 AND Xbox, but leaving out the 'Cube. For whatever reason, from the very beginning of the next-gen consoles, many companies saw the GameCube as 'unprofitable'. It is this very misconception, I believe, which has caused Nintendo sales to do so poorly.

Creston- "Every Nintendo system has Metroid."
I don't recall a N64 Metroid.....

"Hey, if you like playing 18 different versions of Zelda, more power to you. I bought a Nintendo64 specifically for Zelda (this was in a time when I was freaking bored AND had a lot of money), played it for about five hours, and it bored me to tears. Oh great it looks 3D, which means it's now a hundred times easier to get totally lost, and most of the 3D land is just empty rolling grassland. My my how exciting. Oh look, here's a castle, neat. Hmm, I can't enter the castle. Why not? Oh well, guess I'm off to kill more infinitely respawning monsters then... "

The way you look at games, how can you enjoy ANY games at all?

Alak- "Maybe that flismy GC controller made you weak or something."
That 'flimsy GC controller' is the best ergonomically designed controller in the history of consoles. One glance at the buttons, and the layout is so easy, it's instantly memorized. I've played the Xbox for quite a few hours as well- and even you have to admit, the first time you picked it up, the controller freakin sucked. Once you get the hang of it, though, I admit it's not that bad. Nintendo is also responsible for the first GOOD wireless controller. They put alot of thought and work into that controller, which is IMO the kind of work the xbox controller seriously needed. So show some respect, eh?

Shcnapple- "Nintendo is the master of the game which looks gay and childish as shit but is a hell of a lot of fun to play and better than most games on the market. And this is a fanboy talking. I can't wait for Zelda."

You play that at the cube club? I went - I thought it was pretty cool. I can barely wait until March....

Quote from reuters article: "When we withdraw from the home game console, that's when we withdraw from the video game business,"

But that had better NOT be any time soon!!!!! I encourage everyone with the cash to go out and buy a gamecube, along with a copy of metroid prime, eternal darkness, star fox adventures, timesplitters 2, and mario sunshine (I consider these the best of the best). These games will give you countless hours of fun. Nintendo needs you! And after all the fun they've given you........... it's the cheapest next-gen console out there, anyway.

"They know very well what they are doing."

They know that they have purchased a company that has made superior titles in the past; but times are changing.

"Today sources close to Rare told IGNcube that the game is developing at a snail's pace. It will allegedly not be ready in time for a 2002 release and, in fact, could slip into 2004. Insiders cite internal team problems at Rare and a general disorganization between the UK studio and Nintendo as reasons for the project's slow turnaround."

If nintendo had a 'general disorganization' between them selves and their best 2nd party development team, do you really think M$ will be able to do any better with them?

"I was just glad that I was driving an old thunderbird. (Big car lots of steel) things little wuss cars of today the dog probably would have won."

A kid who lives on my block was hit and killed last year during his spring break by a Suburban(that's an SUV). He was only eight years old. Albeit he was a sufferer of ADD, but with the "little wuss cars of today" he might have made it; however, his brain was swelled from the impact, and he was declared braindead. And this is about 20 feet from my house, and I actually knew a nephew of the drivers. Due to financial problems, his family could not afford to keep him on life support. It's enraging how today's vehicles are fitted with such size and strength that it's "get outta my way or I'm gunna kill you".

By the way, Blue, sorry about your encounter.

"I liked the demo of Hitman 2, but it was way to easy just to kill EVERYONE in the entire level and then walk off. "

Try playing on hard. It's much more fun. Or irritating. It's all in the player's mindset.
