News Comments > Zero Hour Map Friday
4. Re: Whoopie Oct 22, 2003, 16:14 Wazootyman

Hrm, I played non-Zero Hour Generals, and I heard something about a general that can pop tunnels wherever he wants in Zero Hour.

Sounded pretty unbalanced (regular tunnels rocked hard enough as it was).
Is that "tunnel spam"?
If so, please give the details. I'm considering buying Zero Hour, and I've been a long time GLA player. I won't get it if this is really a problem though.

An old troll on these forums... I think he finally got banned, but now he is using an alternate name (something like fiddlestix).

5. The Demo Oct 19, 2003, 17:41 Wazootyman

I played it when it first came out, not the patched version.
It seems to be good, mindless fun. Not something I would buy, but the demo is worth the download. Lotsa weapons, and an alternate form. Very easy though.

If you fly away from the farms you are supposed to be protecting (A mecha battle over a tiny little farm?) you can find some odd looking wild animals you can gib with your missles. Hehe.

Where is that ToEE patch? I'm not gonna buy it till I see they have rectified most of the issues I have heard about.

Wait for the PC version and play it on 1600 X 1200 resolution in all its glory

Hopefully not with textures designed for 640x480...

36. Who will be next? Oct 11, 2003, 17:45 Wazootyman

So what developer will this be handed off to next? I'm guessing 3D Realms. They have experience working on this kind of project.

=D

11. Well... Oct 11, 2003, 13:19 Wazootyman

Cool mod, weapon models are particularly nice, but the included "bot support" is pretty terrible I must say. Its better than nothing, but don't expect to play only against bots and have a satisfying experience.

Some bot problems:
On all maps (that I played) at least a few bots just walk around the spawn, randomly crouching.
On some maps, none of the bots ever leave the spawn (at least this makes for some fun grenade oppertunities).
On most maps, the bots on your side follow you around. A nice touch, but it doesn't help when you don't know the map.
Bots can't fight. They many just run back and forth trying to hit you (but moving accuracy is very poor so they rarely do). Occasionally a bot fires without moving and massacres the entire enemy bot population (at close range).

Plus I couldn't get a server list, so I was forced to mess around with the bots. I'd like to see the game in multi.

But after a few days you want to see penetration with the sim characters.

Sounds like you want something from a... different genre.

In the demo, yes.

But in the full version it is always Beasts vs Man?
Or can it be Human v Human or Beast v Beat? That was my original question... Like I said, I'm basing alot of assumptions on the closest thing out there, Natural Selection.

2. Well... Oct 6, 2003, 23:37 Wazootyman

The Sims would be alot more entertaining if you could play from first person, and it was multiplayer and you had guns, and it wasn't anything like The Sims.

2. So... Oct 6, 2003, 23:33 Wazootyman

-You can't play on retail servers
-You can't play as beasts

So, it will be human vs human? Sorry, but I assumed it was like Natural Selection (always Marines vs Aliens)... I guess not...?

That's pretty messed up. I'd worry more about this kind of problem with society.

news flash, they ARE part of our society..like it or not

Hackers and killers are still the "vocal" minority (ie there are not very many of them relative to their peers, but they get most of the attention due to their actions). How are so many kids today growing up to be productive members of society? They overcame obstacles and lived on, despite their environment. Hackers/killers/etc are those that chose not to overcome adversity and instead "feel the need to cause real world damage." They are the ones responsible for this choice.

This is not to say there are not problems with our current culture and educational system, but individuals must be held accountable for their actions. This cultural "fad" of blaming all your problems on your upbringing/environment has gone too far.

I am on a (heavily shared) T3 and get decent up/download speeds when I connect. The problem is, frequently it is very hard to connect, particularly when browsing the web. Pages take a long time to load or time out altogether.

We probably have a pretty crappy network, but is there anything I can tweak from my end? If not, is there any special hardware we need to fix this congestion?
