My guess is it is allowed in the contest. Otherwise, why would they work so hard to release by the Phase 2 deadline?

Fifth try. The last two times it "finished" at 30 megs and 20 megs respectively (of course, a corrupt archive), forcing me to flush my internet files to attempt another download (otherwise it just instantly "finishes" where you last failed).

I wonder how many players actually have the mod... At this rate, the players will trickle in so slowly (or not at all) that the player base will never grow (who wants to play team deathmatch with two other people?). Though it might not kill the mod entirely, the pathetic LucasFiles hosting will certainly seriously wound it...

LucasFiles insisted that they be the only mirror, then provide totally crap bandwidth. This will be my fourth attempt to download it...

I love old zombie movies (and a few new ones too!).

Last summer me and some friends watched:
Night of the Living Dead - Remake
Day of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Return of the Living Dead I
Return of the Living Dead II
Return of the Living Dead III

and a few others unworthy of mention.
They ranged quite a bit in quality, but all of them are a blast to watch and make fun of with friends.

News Comments > Chrome MP Demo
14. Re: No subject Oct 31, 2003, 20:40 Wazootyman

After a few minutes of play, I noticed that my chair was slightly closer to my monitor. Dismissing this as nothing out of the ordinary, I pushed it back into place and resumed playing.

After a few more minutes I again noticed it had shifted a few inches forward. Puzzled, I stood up and watched the chair. At first, I saw nothing, but then I noticed a slight movement. Kneeling down to get a better look I found that my chair was, ever so slightly, moving forward, towards my monitor.

Suddenly, I realized what what happening.

The Chrome demo sucks so hard, it was literally sucking me and my chair towards the screen! I immediately quit and uninstalled the demo, noting that my chair had returned to its usual stationary state.

Beware, for the Chrome demo *really* sucks.

House of The Dead, as related by my brother:

Teens : Take us to that island. For a RAVE. Because we are TEENAGERS.
Old sailor : No! We can't go there! It's cursed!
Teens : Aww, come on.
Old sailor : Well, ok.

Five minutes later

Teen : Hey, there's no one here.
Another Teen : Except for all those zombies.
Teen : Oh... right.

Five minutes later

Teen : Good thing we have all these guns, lets kill some zombies.
Another Teen : Alright... I'm about to SHOOT this ZOMBIE...
Camera does crazy matrix spin around scene as Teen shoots zombie
Yet Another Teen : Look! I'm getting ready to SHOOT another ZOMBIE!
Camera does crazy matrix spin around scene as other Teen shoots other zombie
Teen : Oops, I need to tie my shoe.
Camera does crazy slow-mo matrix spin around scene as Teen ties his shoe

Five minutes later

Male Teen : Good thing we got away from those zombies.
Female Teen : Yeah.
Male Teen : Lets make out.
Female Teen : Okay.
Camera does crazy matrix spin around scene as Teens make out
Female Teen - To audience : Look! Breasts!

Five minutes later

Teens jump out of something exploding as explosion stuff comes up behind them.
Teen : Wow! No one has ever done something that dramatic before!

Five minutes later

Zombie sword fight!

Five minutes later

The end!
Audience : Thank God!

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention the randomly inserted gameplay footage from the House of the Dead arcade game. Yes. Unedited gameplay footage from The House of the Dead game.

Amazing.

23. Re: Games worth playing while we wait... Oct 30, 2003, 17:14 Wazootyman

I uninstalled it last month because the only servers that seem to be populated with warm bodies are the sniper arena (on Xtra-Xtra fast setting) and insta-gib low grav mutator.

Uhg, I know. The game shipped with, what, ten fairly interesting weapons? Why does everyone play it with only one (instagib) enabled? I can only take about fifteen minutes of zipping around an arena making people explode with one click.

Say what you will about gameplay, but I laugh at those that claim Halo's graphics are just as good as UT2003.

I really want to spend my money on this, but from what I've read, at this point it would just be paying for frustration.
Come on devs, give me a reason to put down my money. I hate to say it, but if the patch gets pushed back more than a month or it doesn't fix at least most of the major issues, I might pirate it. My policy is to only pirate games that are absolutely not worth the money. So far I've only done three games, and on one I changed my mind and bought it.

59. Re: (hopefully) simple explanation Oct 23, 2003, 01:46 Wazootyman

Forget about multiple processes, threads, CPUs (hyperthreading), and hardware interrupts for a moment and pretend your computer can only perform one operation at a time.
Well that's easy to do! With multiple processes, threads, and hardware interrupts, your computer already can perform only one operation at a time.

Well, that depend on your definition of 'perform' and 'operation', but all modern processors are piplined, meaning that more than one instruction is being run at a time. For example, if the processor used MIPS, it would have one instruction being fetched, one being decoded, one having it's operands computed, one accessing memory, and one being stored, all at the same time.

In the pentium architecture, it's more like 22 (theoretical max) instructions being partially executed at the same time.

Also, all modern processors are superscalar, meaning there are multiple instructions in the same stage at the same time (for example, two integers being added while two floating point numbers are subtracted, or the register access for two instructions) at the same time. So I would say that, yes, definately, more than one operation is performed at the same time. I understand the pentium barton core averages about 1.8-2.2 instructions completed per clock cycle (theoretical max of pipestages (~22 max, different instructions use different numbers) + superscalar stages (not all stages are superscaler, otherwise it would be times)).

On the other hand none of these: processes, threads, hyperthreading and interrupts (as mentioned in the original post) have anything to do with running more than one instruction at a time. Perhaps hyperthreading, but that is just a qualification that allows the pipeline to be filled by different threads at the same time.
