The Crysis engine looks too fucking awesome, it seems a little black magic to me, I know hidden somewhere is one huge ugly caveat to this thing … but God it is beautiful.

In fact, damn you all!

Yeah, from all the brouhaha yesterday, I thought that was supposed to happen then, but like Y2K another apocalyptic no show. To bad too, I was getting ready to go Bruce Campbell on some demon ass.

I got it, when people talk to me don’t make it conversational, make it like a soliloquy, even have them hold up a finger like I was going to say something and they stopped me, since I am a mindless robot who does what his is told … by anybody… no questions asked.

I disagree, yet still respect your opinion, with your all powerful nerd theory, I am in the Citadel because Alyx told me to be in there, and I’m shutting down stuff because someone told me to shut it down. Gordon is the biggest yes-man in history, he has Forrest Gumped his way to celebrity status. Everyone leads him by following; he needs to have a “Wait-a-fucking-minute” moment.

I know I am a little too adamant about this, but Valve has, with Source, this awesome facial\emotion range, enough so that even I am sometimes convinced, and I am not a part of it, it happens all around me, or to me, but I can’t affect any of it. I dunno, I just feel so disconnected from what is supposed to be a story driven game; Gordon doesn’t even have feet, for Pete’s sake.

I think an assumed conversation would be even more annoying.

Then Alyx could make some ambiguous non-committal response, “Hmm, yeah okay …” We assume it was in response to our idea, whether that be go down the shaft or stab ourselves in the eye with a fork, then there is interaction, and hopefully an emotional connection with the characters, right now I find the one-sided interaction absurd and totally unbelievable. I don’t care about Alyx and sure as fuck don’t care about Gordon.

There is talk of them killing off Alyx , yeah I sure will miss her talking to the back of my head as I wait for the door to open to the next staging area.

And I, for one, would hate if Gordon talked. Or if anyone acted like he did. I got tired of mouthy action heros. Gordons silence is refreshing as hell. And makes a lot more sense. I hate playing other games and muttering "shut the hell up" or "gee, you think?" when the protagonist opens his damn mouth.

He doesn’t have to talk, probably shouldn't, but they need to make it obvious that there is an assumed conversation; this whole one-way sounding board is pissing me off.

Alyx: “What the fuck is your problem, I have been talking to you for hours and you haven’t said a damned thing … “OO look at me I’m Gordon Freeman, I’m an MIT graduate who is incredibly proficient with weaponry, conventional, high tech, and otherwise, I don’t need to talk, I’ll just stare at you for minutes at a time offering no feed back what-so-ever.” I was almost liking you too, you know what, fuck you, save this shitty world on your own I’m outta here. You can’t even imagine what you missed out on *rubs her body*, fuck you later, bitch. *Storms out, giving the double-fisted flip off.

17. Re: PS3 Costs Jun 6, 2006, 12:42 Of Rock Star Fame

We have made sure this is a console for the long haul. If you look at the lack of Blu-ray on Xbox 360, what do you do if the game requires 40 to 50 GB?

I think it is going to be awhile before games have a varied enough high-res texture set to require that much space. Except for the hours of FMV in the PS3 Final Fantasy game, I wonder if they will do their whole ad campaign, “It would take this many Xbox 360 disks to make this game”.

I am sick of companies putting the onerous of a new tech on us, you want Blu-ray in every house in America, you want it to win the “Format War”, then make it cheaper, I am past the 1200 bucks for a O-so-cool-brand-new-first-to-have-VCR phase. This means you too AGEIA, you want the de facto physics card, then get it in my computer, hint: 300 bucks isn’t doing it.

The world is too tech savvy now, new tech doesn't wow us to the point of blind stupidity anymore, something cooler and better is just around the corner.

20. Re: liquid nitrogen in pool Jun 6, 2006, 11:35 Of Rock Star Fame

As do most liquids... the proper term here is "evaporation". Sublimation is direct state change from solid to gas (or visa versa).

The term is deposition for gas to solid.

Edit:
He's wearing a short sleeve shirt, shorts, and sandals. With the LN in a large, open top bowl with only a regular towel and some hotpads.

Actually when we were around or "worked" with liquid nitrogen we were told not to wear long sleeve shirts or wear gloves, because it would saturate the material and then you would be in for a world of hurt. Conventionally it should roll off the skin (somewhat) harmlessly, except his legs where it would roll downward into his shoes when he would promptly lose his feet.

I'd say it's more an example of two individuals who didn't stop to consider all the possible outcomes of their actions. People do stupid things all the time, educated or not. NO need to denigrate the entire educational system.

Yeah, maybe I should have put a comment at the end of my (satirical) post that they were just drunk, yeah, maybe.

16. Sympathy? Jun 5, 2006, 14:19 Of Rock Star Fame

Two college students were found dead inside a large, deflated helium balloon after apparently pulling it down and crawling inside it, officials said.

This is just a sad example of our education system. Now I have only had two years at a community college, but I know if I displace/replace oxygen (vital component to the oxygenation of my red blood cells –life- ), with another gas, I pass out, if in a oxygen rich environment I wake up with a rocking headache. If in a non-oxygen rich environment, say an enclosed balloon filled with helium, I fucking die.

They better have been lit like Chinese New Year.

135. Okayish. Jun 4, 2006, 13:13 Of Rock Star Fame

I dunno, it was okay I guess, I don’t know how Game(someshit) said it has the best graphics of any game out there, but it does perform very well. Comparing combat against my combat benchmark –FEAR- , ridiculously flat and horridly un-engaging, like taking a little kid to a school Halloween spook house, going through the motions but not feeling anything.

The main point, the story, if rolling down a hill from set piece to set piece, never taking a moment to arrest the fall or even look around for a better hill to roll down is a story then, yeah, it rocks. It has the same problem that caused me to stop watching the X-Files, I am not convinced that they know where the story is going, there are no great expositions or plot points; same place I was at the end of HL2. And the most boring, inhuman avatar in video game history doesn’t help the cause, Jesus make Alyx noncommittally respond to some assumed thing Gordon might say, don’t give him a voice just make it assumed.

Now, I played through to the end, so it wasn’t all bad, I knew what is was getting into so I can’t comment on 20 bucks for 4 hours, but depending on where video gaming is in six months, and without some big HL shakeup I really don’t see me coming back to this story.

Edit: Bold

The PhysX Sham Part Two on PC Format Blog.

After reading that I doubt I will ever get one of those cards, however, if it came out at 99 bucks (59 awesome) I would already have one I couldn't take it back, and wouldn't care. Its called a fast nickel Ageia. Whoops.

Holy Moly, I made extra sure I didn’t speed going to work this morning, I don’t think I was still drunk, but I know for sure I wasn’t passing any breathalyzers. I don’t need a DUI at seven in the morning.

God Bless you all.

Valve has always produced top notch gaming, in my opinion and that of most reviewers and gamers, so why is everyone predicting that this will suddenly be their downfall?

I don’t understand that statement, they made one fucking game –a great game to be sure -- and its sequel, and are hugely famous for a mod that a fan made. How is that “Gaming”? The only thing I know for sure that Valve can do is create a fuck-ton of buzz.

Episodic gaming lives or dies by the story. The technology is the same, engine, textures, set-pieces, nothing to warrant a purchase. Perhaps soon Valve will finally Deus ex machina themselves the complete HL story, but I doubt they really know where they are trying to go with it.

Right now Episode 1 sounds like, no judgment yet, obviously haven’t played it, a bonus level hidden on the disk that they finally unlocked.

80. The Sandman is allergic to babies. May 27, 2006, 13:58 Of Rock Star Fame

Congrats ORSF! But…I gotta say, since I remember your previous discussion about this. Get the paternity test done asap!

Yeah, got swabbed yesterday, 178.00 I can even do a payment plan; takes three to four weeks (I know smells Government because it is) to get the results back.

They think she has her days and nights mixed up, she is medically sound, and sleeps like a rock during the day, but is up ALL night, I guess after work last night, around eight or so I was asleep for an hour, and that was it for the night. At two months they usually sleep through the whole night, which is great except at this rate I will be long dead by then.

61. It's a baby. May 26, 2006, 20:08 Of Rock Star Fame

22 May 2006: 22:42 an 8 pound, 5 ounce little girl delivered by C-Section (to fat to fit through pelvic bone, the mother did push for 1 hour and 45 minutes though). Just released from hospital yesterday, mother and baby are just fine … the father is touch and go at best.

Women that say babies are beautiful are goddamned liars. When she came out it was like something from Star Trek had sex with something from the X-Files, then that resulting abomination was genetically spliced with a raisin. The C-Section was pretty fucking awesome though, apparently I am the only one to have watched the whole thing, just fascinating.
