That Techseekers 'story' is quite the joke. Not very newsworthy. Both the 'sources' he quotes are hardly news sources (PA and HardOCP), and the information from both of them is faulty to top it off.

Glad you're all sorted dude. That was a pretty bonehead move.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one that performs random acts of foolishness.

Knowing about things years before the pseudo intellectual, techno, elite at Slashdot is heart warming.
Thanks for the link.

Meh, to each his own d00d. I'm currently just as good in UC with the duke xbox controller as I am in UT on my PC. It really didn't take long to adapt. But I digress, this should be about Splinter Cell (which is far more fun on the couch with a big screen and 5.1 BTW ).

Oh ya, stealth is where it's at with this game. I seldomly shoot anyone, it's a last resort. Try getting past the guys upstairs at the computers by shimmying along the pipe on the ceiling. Or playing mind games with them by flipping the light switch.

The best part of this game is being able to decide if you want to save at a checkpoint or not. Usually, if I'm not entirely pleased with my performance up to that point or if, after the fact, I realize I could have done something a lot more cleanly I say no. Replaying parts of levels is actually even more fun than the first time around. Great game.

People touting mouse look over console controllers are such dinosaurs. Get over it. If you're a gamer, you adapt. I haven't even noticed in years. Console games, PC games. They're all good.

Great game BTW (been playing it on the xbox for the past month). Here's something fun to try with the demo if you think it's too easy: Try to get through the whole level without touching anyone with your hands or shooting them. I'll give you one hint: bottles.

Enjoy

Everyone is entitled to their opinions which I respect and try to be open minded about. But a lot of anti-gun contol arguments break down to paranoid visions of people wholed up in thier houses clutching their guns for protection against potential wakos and freaks that really are thier neighbors and fellow citezens. I agree that everyone should have the right to self defense but the way it's painted by gun lobbyists is just not very American in my view. It's overly parnoid and often practically delusional. I'm not naive either I've lived in Manhattan, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Geneva, Amsterdam, and Athens so I'm no stranger to the streets of big cites or threatening situations. I'm not lashing out at you George but take a step back and read the statements that you've written, and especially take note of the tone. It's not that hard to imagine that they were scrawlled on the wall of Timothy McVeigh's cell. "Hell wil lhave a special place for people like you Adam" Nice threat George. I only imagine adrenaline coursing through your veins as you write stuff like that. So how do your actions contribute to the 'greater good of this great country'?

The other common argument of anti-gun control lobbyists also holds no water for me. The notion that citizens must have the right to protect themselves from the possibility that the 'government' may somehow become corrupt and take over all our freedoms. OK, I'm a strong believer in learning from history and I fully understand that derranged people like Hitler rose to power within this last century. <--- That is very very scary. Many people think history is a thing of the past. I agree with you George, history is very present and terrible things like that could easily happen again within our future. It's not that unconceivable. However, lets take a stroll down hypothetical lane and envision your potential future where the 'government' has somehow become corrupt and is going to march us off to gas chambers. Who exactly would you be trying to defend yourself against with your guns in this event? The United States Army. <--- I'm sorry that hypothetical battle is already lost. No collection of NRA or 'Michigan Militia' members and their collection of guns is going to accomplish anything against the fighting force of a nation that spends over 200 Billion a year in defense. That argument is a mute point. We already have given our freedom over to the country that protects us.

I appreciate your strong opinions George. The freedom to explore and express those opinions is what makes our country great. I don't appreciate your tone.

When will people lay off video games and start blaming rock and roll again for the worlds problems?

We need a big, high profile, death metal band to do something stupid and take the heat off video games so we can get back to our lives. After all everyone knows rock and roll is the devil's music. Video games are like computers, computers are goooood for you. They make you smaaaart.

Blue is tireless!!! 8 impossible things before breakfast type of workaholic. Props for the massive news posts before 6 AM! Hung over here, dragging myself off the couch to go to bed after last night's celebration (never mind). Well I was going to bed. Now I got all this news to read thanks to the B-man ;-)

Ahh, ok. Now I see what he was getting at. I agree the definition of the term 'gaming' is two-fold depending on the industry you're talking about.

Jay-- *sigh* ok, I guess I'm confused so I'll ask you to clarify this as I'm clearly a moron:

"b. Electrical games are those, that depend on electrical mechanisms.
c. Electromechanical games are those that depend on electrical mechanisms and the use of one's muscle force.
d. Electronic games are those, that depend on both electrical-electronic mechanisms and software."

"1. Operation and installation of any game of type (b), (c) and (d) of Article 1, including computer games,
placed in public places such as hotels, cafeterias, organization halls and in any other public or private
place, is prohibited."

So, what part of this implies that the law only applies to gambling machines? I'm seriously curious, you're really confusing me. Am I missing something?

Also, I read greek and I'm not seeing anything on the front page of the link you provided (http://tech.flash.gr/)regarding arrests at an internet cafe. Maybe it's been bumped off the front page by recent news. Do you have a direct link to the article?

Thanks.

I've been working on a miniature, 'bar-top' arcade cab for a little while now, since a recent PC upgrade left me with too many spare parts to bother building yet another PC.

I've almost got all the parts together. Unfortunately since there's so many games I want to play that require different control hardware, I've opted for multiple, detachable control panels. It's just too hard to focus with so many great games. My two best finds so far (thanks to ebay) have been an original Star Wars yoke and an original Tron joystick. The rest I'll buy new.

The coin insert, buttons, and track ball are coming from Happ (http://www.happcontrols.com/), and the classic ball top joysticks are coming from Wico (http://www.wicothesource.com/new2/default.htm).

Good luck with your project if you embark on a mame cab. http://www.arcadecontrols.com is definately the best place to start. Lots of great people there to answer your questions.
