that was a nice little read, and something i empathise with entirely. For a while I thought it was just that I did FFA to death - which I probably did. Slowly, however, the obvious realisation happened; I'm just an old gamer. I remember once playing Tribes Vengeance (ahem) I was talking to someone and they asked how old I was...
<me> 30. <him> wow.
That was a while ago now. The older you get (and definitely on a console) the more you feel like playing with just your friends, the more you can't be bothered to run with someone atleast 60% younger than you. On top of that, the older you get the harder it is for you and your friends to get online at the same time. Then you get a second realisation; its quite easy to not recognise the sweet spot when you're there, and it all becomes a bit Lethal-Weapon. |

Totally agree with Verno, and, to be fair (plus also for my sins), I played alot of the original Bad Company on the xbox, and you get used to the pain of no prone after a while - its not like someone else is doing it but you're not. Maybe there are other things to bring up (like digital distribution sales not being included in sales figures...)...
as an edit : "Who would stay exposed when they can lay down to take objectives?"...Yes, but in BC1 atleast, there's plenty of vegetation cover, and I used to get people stand right next to me without being noticed.

And, from the bottom of the article:
"James Brightman is a veteran games journalist with more than six years of experience."
...when did six years make someone a "veteran journalist"? That's only back to 2003, at a stretch. |

hmm, i actually found it quite interesting, reading it, sitting here with a cup of coffee...so i guess you should refine your over-active "No one CARES" comment to be "Almost no one cares".

"It takes me - WAY - back to my Star Flight (remember those two?) days. "
ah starflight seemed great. My dad bought it for me on a trip to the states (back in the 80s). The box is knocking around here somewhere, with the designers sitting in a space shuttle or something. It was a bit above me at the time, kind of preferred then type-tastic space-quest, but i do remember landing on a massive planet...and dying instantly from the 16g rated gravity.

yeah er really, this game works and does what all games should do. runs really well on a 6600gt, is fun, gets better, and doesn't crash. And, if you're not in the US, its suitably adult too, for the adults amongst us.

"I bought the hype because I enjoyed the demo, but being booted off the server after every match is really boring, and the servers are thinning out WAY fast... "
i had that problem...i play it over a network, connecting to the internet gateway machine which runs wingate/wingoat...a little piece of software that, for most people, probably got replaced by ICS ages ago.
i was originally using its NAT connection sharing mode. Each time I'd get booted at the end of the match, even with firewalls turned off. Swapped over to using its replacement network winsock instead, which doesn't work with games needing UDP (in my past experience), and now things work fine.

i'm quite interested to hear from the person who saw the key config screen, used it, and said:
"yep people, this works a treat! its totally functional with great ergonomics! release it already!!"
its shockingly bad.

"So yeah... somehow I feel that my download (50% done @ 55kb/s) might be in vain... "
the demo readme seems to suggest geforce4s aren't supported. unless i can't read. which is possible i guess.

yep i'm sure its er not your PCs, its the WMV. If you watch it frame by frame in mpc, or whatever, you will notice that many parts (like at 1m58 for example) the frame only advances every 3 or 4 cursor presses - every cursor press is 1 frame. That's why it looks so choppy, as its effectively playing at those action bits at 10fps or whatever.
The thing is its so variable. Some sections animate every frame, then suddenly go to every 3rd or 4th. I'm sure this isn't my PC...Someone messed up. Fixed the blue hue, decided to break the encoding instead.
