News Comments > DOOM III Screenshots
26. Re: No subject Jul 30, 2002, 20:31 Ronin

For the love of...

Please, someone please show me in-game screenshots that come ANYWHERE CLOSE to this game. I find RTCW visually stunning, but for reference I just watched an in-game cinematic. The characters' eyes are painted on. Teeth are represented as white lines. HAS ANY BOTHERED TO LOOK AT THE MARINE'S MOUTH? Not the shining example of dental hygene, but good God that's a long way from RTCW.

Until you can show us a better looking game, shut the fuck up. Some people will never be satisfied. Compared to real life, the screenshots suck. But compaired to other games, SHIT, compared to other games' cutscenes, D3 looks amazing.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Acura DN-X. If you're going to pay an arm and a leg for a car, it should have balls. But wouldn't it be nice if it was economical too? The DN-X puts out 400 hp with a wicked hybrid, and gets 42 mpg. That's what I'm talking about.

12. what's the big commotion? Jul 4, 2002, 02:53 Ronin

I have not played DOD, but I love the multiplayer half of RTCW more than any other online game I've played (Quake 1 CTF comes close). Flame me up the ass, but I was not impressed with CS (too slow-paced), is DOD like CS in WW2? (Doncha just love acronyms?)

74. I'll defend RTCW Jun 17, 2002, 02:18 Ronin

And I'll do so with my own experiences with the game. I was just recently playing it through again on the hard difficulty. I had just reached the X-Labs, where you start near the sub. Creeping up over the little hill, I could see a very faint outline of a guard. In order to not attract attention, I switched over to my Snooper rifle. With its night-vision, the guard showed up plain as day. With only the muted sound of a silencer, the guard crumpled quite realistically to the ground. Oh, the smile that crossed my face. There has never been a cooler sniper rifle.

Now onto the multiplayer part. I hadn't been playing for a few months with everything else taking up my time, but I finally got back to this beautiful piece. With this game, you only need to play a few hours to have moments that you'll remember for a long time.

It was the beach landing level, and I was a soldier. We had breached both entrances, and taken the front bunker. I had watched as several others had tried to get the objective from the basement without success. I knew they must have been holed up down there pretty tight. I spawned in with a Venom. Switching to pistol, I made my way down. Peaking around the corner, I saw a Nazi run to the right. At that I rushed in, drew my Venom, and was able to mow down at least 4 unsuspecting defenders. Down to about 5 health, I grabbed the objective, and under the cover of a Lt., made my way to the broadcasting station, and my team won. That's a pulse-pounding game experience, one among dozens that I've experienced in this game (like defusing dynamite 2 seconds before it goes off), and I'm sure there will be many more.

And yes, I bought the tin can collector's version. Partly because I'm a big fan (not fanboy), but also because I'm an admitted sucker for special edition cases. You should see my DVD collection. Littered with tin cans and over-sized boxes.

we allow games that teach killing, how to operate a deadly weapon without a license

Have you even fired a real weapon? For the first time since my dad's single shot 22 rifle, I fired a real gun the other week. A Walther P99 40 caliber hand gun. That sucker had some kick, but I KNOW it's not anywhere near that of the guns used in these games. So how do these guns teach you how to use the weapons? It certainly doesn't factor in the kickback, much less how heavy the gun is.

Sorry, I should have been more complete. In the presence of other traffic, I'd never think to go that fast.

Whoever said it was right, it's not the speeders that cause problems it's the morons who got their driver's license in a cracker jack box, going 45 in a 65, not watching their shoulder when they lane-change, not using their blinker when they lane-change, speeding in the rain, driving SUVs ;P, and doing things they shouldn't do while driving (talking on the cell without a hands-free set, putting on makeup "pulling the gum out of Timmy's hair," (love that one :D), etc.

I have no respect for the ones weaving in and out of 50 mph after work rush at 80.

39. high rpms= bad mpg Apr 21, 2002, 21:36 Ronin

This was never more obvious then when I was driving from MN to AZ in my ancient 86 CRX. Now, granted, the fuel economy on that car is considerably good anyway, getting about 35 mpg highway, but on the trip down I was stuck behind my father who was driving a big U-Haul. He never got the sucker over 55. In that little car, averaging 55 all day, I was getting, I shit you not, 50 mpg. My rpms were less than 3k.

Oh, but I love driving fast. I know I take my life in my own hands, but I'd rather die in a blazing fireball of wreckage after pushing 140 on the freeway, knowing that I was man enough (crazy enough) to take a risk and live.

I'd like to finish with a bumper sticker I saw the other day. "Drive offensively. Buy a tank."

Blue, I don't know if you realized it, but Croteam listed you in their thanks in the credits for Serious Sam:SE. Have you been listed in any other thanks for any other game that you know of?

"unknown caller"
Arg, that guy calls me about 5 times a day. Never leaves messages!

Actually, it's probably 5 different people. Telemarketers. That's the reason why we don't answer our phone unless we recognize the caller. I'm seriously considering getting one of those telemarketer blockers.
Anyone try them?

I'm still not seeing where you get that God decides who's going to be saved before they're born. Of course it's His ultimate choice! He could choose not to give it to anyone if He was so inclined. But he gives it (decides to give it) to those who want it. I must point out verse 12 "not by works but by him who calls--". In other words, the guy who asks for it is going to get it.

Oh, and the review that I read was giving information from the book. If you can call it information. Yes I am basing my opinion on the Bible. How do you know the BS you're reading is true? You don't. The little I've heard about this book reminds me of a sleazy tabloid. "Son of God involved in sex scandal with hooker!" Riiiiiight. As soon as someone digs up the marriage certificate, I might reconsider my opinion. As far as Him not dying on the cross, it was only the most popular way to off people back then. What better way to humiliate the self-proclaimed king then to strip His clothes, nail Him to a board, and string Him up so everyone could mock Him for being a lunatic?

73. Re: Talk of God Mar 27, 2002, 01:49 Ronin

In Romans 10 it says (don't have a quote sorry, but look it up if you like) that God decided who was going to heaven B4 he created the world. It then goes on to say that yes, that seems unfair because it takes away our ability to choose, "but who are you to question God". So stiff shit basically. You have no choice. You are a Christian because God chooses for you to be.

Actually, it says "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.' For there is NO DIFFERENCE between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"

It's a gift man. You just gotta accept it. And that whole good deeds thing that everyone keeps moaning about? God wants you to love Him, and in loving Him you'll want to do right, but it's not an outright requirement. Kinda like a side-effect. God makes the ultimate decision, but you can choose to accept the gift.

And what he said about not deserving Heaven, we don't. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." But God loves us so much, that He's willing to let it slide if we let Him in.

Oh, and I read a review on Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Fucking gimmick. Jesus had offspring by his wife Mary Magdalene? HIS WIFE?!?!?! Gimme a damn break!! Just the notion that he married is preposterous. You may say anything's possible, but that's too far.

Oh, and one more thing, just to clarify, THERE IS NO ETERNAL BURNING. Only a quick roast and that's it. Instant flambe, with the whole earth being scorched and burned clean.

Here it is quickly broken down for those who don't want to pick up that heavy book:
God comes. The saved, living and dead, rise and go with Him. The wicked die or stay dead. For 1000 years, the saved party it up with God at his place, while Satan wanders the earth all alone. After 1000 years, God brings everyone back to earth. All the wicked rise, ally with the dark lord, and pitifully try to storm the castle. Big mistake. God thinks, and the whole earth is scorched in an instant.

No eternal fire. I can see where there would be some confusion, as many translations say "they will be thrown into the lake of fire to be tormented for ever and ever." But right after that is says that they will be risen up, shown how they messed up, and they will suffer the second death. DEATH. As in no consciousness. No knowledge of torment.

Now I'm tired and am going to go to sleep.

Whew, what a thread. Let's get started, shall we?

Well, be careful not to disagree or disbelieve, you just might be punished by eternal pain. Owww.

Sorry, there's no such thing as eternal pain. Only 2 deaths. Second one's the end, nothing after that. No hell. Check out Revelation, potent stuff.

there is no such thing as "god"..such beliefs are primitive

Oh, there is very much so a God, and the thing He dislikes the most is people denying His existence. Believe it or not, but He prefers Satanists over Atheists, because they acknowledge His presence. Though I have no concrete evidence to provide, I'm much rather think that we were created, rather than evolved out of nothing. I mean, come on. Micro-evolution, yes, but macro? Laughable. "I find your lack of faith disturbing.

r u saying jesus was black?

Technically, given His location in the world, He was more black than white. But does it really matter?

"I have plenty of respect for the Lord; it's his fan-club that I hate."

Amen. I for one can't stand people that go around and try to shove religion down people's throats. By my words, you're probably considering me an oxymoron to end all right now, but I'm just stating my opinion, and giving a some-what intellectual point of view (I did say some-what). I'm not trying to convert anyone.

I didn't know god was also a level designer

He's a coder too, among other things.

If you think sex is out of the tone of the bible, please read the chapter "Song of Songs" (aka "Song of Solomon" or "Solomon's Song")

Damn straight. With the freaky stuff in the Bible, if they were to make it a movie word-for-word, aside from being the longest movie ever, not to mention incredibly boring for great periods of time, but it would make the most violent horror movie look like Bambi, and the raunchiest porno look like Sleepless in Seattle (or something to that effect. MY KINDA MOVIE!!

And that's all I have to say about that.

/me slips into asbestos suit for impending flaming.
