Oh this will do great. A racing sim featuring realistic tracks and real cars. It certainly doesn't have any competition.
/sarcasm
Seriously, the NFS franchise was good for one thing...cops vs crooks. With the last incarnation and this, they've obviously lost site of this. |

Anyone else see that as Millennium Falcon?
Star Trek FTW, btw. Secret text: My only complaint at time of watching was Uhura and Spock sittin-in-a-tree...I may not be as hardcore as some, but it struck me as a little odd. But I've since come to reason that we're just seeing a slightly more human version, one whose emotions came forth with a vengeance with the destruction of Vulcan and the death of his mother. |

FWIW, I only paid $20 for the game. At $20, it was a fantastic deal. At $50, I would have been a little miffed at the shortness of play the first time through, but damn if I'm not having fun replaying it. Before the next 30 days are over, L4D will have cost me about 35-40 cents per hour...which is pretty damn good for entertainment. And I'll continue to play it and watch you blowholes spew your meaningless complaints, with popcorn in hand.
EDIT: changed rates...would have cost me 75 cents/hour if I paid full price.

| Seriously, where are all these problems coming from? The only issue I've EVER had (aside from smacktards who join expert games, do something stupid, and end up tricking people into thinking they're kicking the tard) was recently with survival games, we've had trouble finding a dedicated server. But it usually fixed itself by having someone else be the leader, or playing local (which actually wasn't too bad...Cox high-speed FTW). |

My sentiments exactly...Tetris was the same thing over and over again, that didn't stop people from playing it till their eyes bled....
Getting into an expert difficulty game is one of the most satisfying online gaming experiences...I learned very early on that the smacktards and 12 year olds stay away from it...cause you can't go running off rambo style, you REALLY need to stick together. Most guys with the patience to go all the way through an expert campaign are some cool guys...and I usually "friend" them, since I know I can count on them.
And I just got a bunch of sound-replacement files...now the Tank sounds like Johnny Bravo, the hunter screams RAPE when he leaps and has this happy Mario/Starfox music when attacking...and all the infected sound like Randy Savage...it's a hoot.
Having a bit of fun with Survival...though it does get a little old...a lot of maps it's a matter of finding the best corner and waiting it out with auto-shottys, but some of them require some serious tactics and teamwork (especially Mercy rooftop).
I've clocked a good 40+ hours in the game, and I'm still having fun...there's just something so satisfying about checking a charging zombie in the face with the butt of my shotty...then blowing its head off as it reels (SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!!!). |

"We so need to get rid of the penny."
But Blue, don't you see, that's how it starts! Don't you remember when they gave the NES a face-lift and a new controller, so it looked more like a SNES...production stopped shortly thereafter. Same thing with the SNES.
Of course, this line of thinking apparently doesn't apply to the other coins, but we can hope. |

I believe the "long-jump" imps, and other tactics employed by the monsters was instead of hordes of monsters.
In all likelihood, Carmack and Co. probably wanted to have smarter monsters, but there just wasn't the power. So they just gave them 2 modes...walk in place while facing the other direction, or run/float/stomp toward you until you die...then walk in place again. |

Heh I think its funny how people say we want the old Doom then complain about Doom 3's dark corridors and monsters popping out of closets. Your memorys failing you, the original Doom was full of dark tight spaces and had monsters popping out of hidden areas all the time. Granted the original did have some larger open areas with hordes of beasts but tight dark monster popping was very much a theme of the original. Heh, no shit. After what was it, the 2nd or 3rd level of the first game, when you picked up the armor in a low-lit room, only to have the lights go out and you were surrounded by imps...how often did you approach a big pick-up with trepidation, and not without saving it first? |

Forget the storyline and go back to what made Doom great: killing tons of monsters. id should be looking to Serious Sam and Left 4 Dead for inspiration. They also put aside their egos and look at Doom 3 as a mistake that should never be repeated. Serious Sam could look into the future? WWWOOOWWWWW! I knew there was time travel in that game, but that's AWESOME!
Bring on a story, I don't care. Considering 1) as others have said, Tech 5 allows for large outdoor enviros in high detail without slagging your system, and 2) DOOM 3 was essentially reinvisioning DOOM, I think we can expect DOOM 4 to reinvent DOOM 2...so the expectation of hell on earth with destroyed buildings, etc. is probably right on.
Either that, or they'll do something like Quake 4, and have you as part of a group (like the last marines alive on Earth). As much as I liked Quake 4, I hope they don't. |

Just sounding off as someone who was raised on Wolf 3D, Doom, Quake, et al., and I thoroughly enjoyed Doom 3. Sure, I was slightly annoyed about the flashlight, but I ended up appreciating the element of difficulty it added.
Now I'm going to have to go dust it off and pick up where I left off on nightmare difficulty, see how much further I can get. |

You know, for someone that I've seen be frustrated with publications neglecting to acknowledge that NASA is an acronym, I'm surprised you forgot to do so yourself, Blue. And even the target article got it right. |

Vikings vs Giants |

| As a Vikings fan, I'm not terribly impressed with the calls made by Childress (head coach)...and it was embarrassingly close considering 1) Giants had no starters by the time the 3rd quarter rolled around, and 2) We sacked Manning, what, 9 times in the previous two games, and the last game we demolished them...embarrassing how different it was this game. But a win is a win. |

Sure, I could wait a month and buy the bundle for cheap, but I'm a Rock Band addict, and there's no way I can wait that long, knowing it's available and others are playing it. Got my Best Buy pre-order, and will be sure to be there early enough to get my drums and cymbal set.
Blue, you must be dying with anticipation. I'm sure we won't mind if Sunday's updates are a little sparse. |

the best items will still be acquired through trade.
Do they mean trade with other players? Cause trade with the NPCs usually yields poop, at least, after about act 4 of normal difficulty. You can't buy uniques, set pieces, or the yellow items (I forget the technical term). The only exception being the occasional plated belt of the whale, with +99 to health, and high damage pole-arms for a whirlwind barbarian. |

Elf Shot The Food, I think that's the idea. As they said, they're getting back to the basics:
"Need for Speed Undercover takes the franchise back to its roots and re-introduces break-neck cop chases..."
I hate getting my hopes up for NFS games, as I've been severely disappointed in the past (Most Wanted being the exception since Porsche Unleashed). I like this trend, in theory, of having stories to go along with the races. And from their wording, it sounds like there will be plenty of cat and mouse and mouse and cat (be chased, do the chasing). Maybe...just MAYBE...a return of replays? I can dream. |

I'm just wondering how we all go back in time to Fall 208 for the release...?
I was thinking the same thing...perhaps a cross with Assassin's Creed? |
