On the other end of the spectrum, I haven't had *any* problems with Vista. So far it's ran as stable as XP did, albeit slightly slower. But even the slowdown is minimal. I guess I'm just lucky ...

suggestions on laptop reliability?
I've had two Toshibas now for several years, and I haven't had any problem with either of them. And I treat 'em kind of rough at times (knocked off the couch, etc.)
I really don't know what everybody's issues are with Vista. As I used to joke about in my .sig, it's just XP with eye candy. Couple of minor differences, but it works fine. Yes, it's more of a resource hog, but so was XP over 98. Just order your laptop with 2 GB of RAM ...

OK, that's kind of freaky: same computer case with the door hanging half open, and same DirecTV HDDVR unit (at least it looks like the same one I have) ...
EDIT: Where's the baby 'fridge well stocked with Bawls? Must be off camera.

If it was an "HD" broadcast it was poorly done with lots of compression.
That may be it; the other reasons were false. But I disagree with the term "huge". Huge is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose ...

I examined a regular DVD (upconverted) side by side with an HD broadcast of The Incredibles, and I had to use freeze frame to see the differences. I did a blind test on the Mrs. and she couldn't tell the difference at all.
I'll probably get a BD player someday, but not until the price drops well below $200 ...

While waiting for the format war to work itself out, I picked up a cheapy HDMI upconverting DVD player. Not quite as nice as HD, but the 1080p upconversion looks quite a bit better than 480 (p or i)
