I wish you could see my dentist; he's amazing. I had a chipped filling (from a filled cavity from my youth) that my dentist fixed with a crown. The crown was carved from a solid piece of porcelain with two computer-driven micro-drills, which worked from a 3-D image taken with a camera inserted into my mouth. After the image was taken, my dentist pulled up a computer next to my chair and showed me how he "edited" the digital image with mouse (it looked like a 3-D photoshop edit job!) to make it even better, then let me go into the next room where the micro-drill went to work etching the crown. It was fantastic to watch, and the whole procedure took about 90 minutes.

The new tooth is like better than the original. "We can rebuild him, only better ...."

I love the eary updates. The only thing I haven't liked in the past were weekend updates that didn't appear until late in the afternoon.

And I totally concur with nin's comments about your efforts ...

It sounds fun, but I don't want to deal with the dumb-cumbersome-ass controller. I hope they port it to PC. I don't mind ports, as long as they're fun to play ...

5. Re: Time to upgrade my system... Aug 19, 2008, 11:16 banddirector

I do a major upgrade every two years as well, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well my current machine (Core 2 Duo E6600, GeForce 8800 GTS, 2 gigs RAM) has held up since January '07. As WarPig mentioned, there's *always* something new just on the horizon, so there's really no point in waiting, unless there's some new feature coming that you just have to have.

I'm guessing my Jan. '09 machine will have a quad core proc, and a mobo that will accommodate the Nvidia GTX 280 line of cards (unless they have something faster by then). I also tend to buy one notch back from the bleeding edge version, which hopefully saves a little bit of money.

I still don't know if I'll do the 64 bit version of Vista yet, though. I might stay with 32 until Windows 7 comes out ...

but thought it was a little long - like they tried to cram too much in.....

Glad someone else thought so too. After seeing it, I was surprised that it got so many stellar ratings, because although it was good, it could have been edited/revised to be even better. Always leave your audiences wanting a little more. Of course, maybe it was due to me watching the first movie again before I went to the theater that day ...

Favorite part of the movie, and maybe of all movies ever (SST): Watch me make this pencil disappear ...

Take a Zantac 150, Blue. Eat what you want, no pain in return!

OT - - I just want to rant a bit about us west-coasters getting totally boofed by NBC with their tape-delayed coverage of the Olympics. Bastards. I hate them for giving us the shaft, and I hate all you Easterners for getting to see stuff live when I can't.

I need to stop - - I'm starting to sound like Enahs ...

No, none of you can have my fingers or toes, you sick bastards ...

The fingerprint reader is just a prompt to auto-fill in logins and passwords - - which you can still do manually if you choose. Apparently the accompanying software is supposed to encrypt files as well, but I haven't figured out how to make that part work. What I really wanted to encrypt was some .doc files, but Word has a feature for that, so all I use the fingerprint reader (so far) is for auto-fill of the fields.

20. Sort of science related ... Aug 14, 2008, 11:04 banddirector

I got me one of them new-fangled biometric devices for my computer (all right, it's just a fingerprint reader, and I guess it's not all that new-fangled) but it's pretty slick. Instead of entering logins and passwords for either Windows start ups or various password web sites, all I gotta do is put my finger on the reader and VOILA, I'm in.

Just $50 or so at http://tinyurl.com/2p4kn ...
