| This new policy has pretty much locked me into never buying EA products again. Many people have been banned from their forums for complaining about their DRM (not sure to what degree mind you but still.) Banning me from a game I paid for because some moderator with a chip on his shoulder didn't like something I said and has final say without appeal means you don't deserve my money. |

| The thing I find kind of funny about this situation is that the SecuROM type that Bethesda is using on Fallout 3 has been in use for years without complaint. Now when people hear SecuROM, they think about activations and any time the name comes up, people get upset about it. Don't get me wrong, I am pissed that Bethesda pulled a fast one on the community and I am pissed they're using SecuROM because the brand new DVD burner I put in my brand new machine has trouble authenticating the disc I'd say about a third of the time. However, SecuROM and in particular its behaviour of seeing legitimate burning applications as piracy tools is nothing new yet it only seems to be after SecuROM become synonymous with activation that everyone is getting pissed at it. |

Well that's your opinion. I'm guessing you don't have a widescreen monitor, otherwise you would care. And for the record it's more than half an inch. It definitely is my opinion of course, just as your opinion is yours. I do have a 22" widescreen monitor and my old 19" 4:3 monitor as a secondary display. Thanks for trying the old "You must not be affected by this because otherwise you'd get it" excuse after implying that you understand my opinion may just differ from yours. I have tried BioShock on both displays to see the effects of the problem and no, I don't think its a big deal. Others mileage may vary of course but given what I've seen myself and how it impacted the gameplay experience, I personally see this as an incredibly minimal issue that is being made way to big a deal of. If it cuts parts of the HUD off or made it so that you couldn't easily see an approaching enemy in peripheral vision I could understand it but this is not the case in either of these two games. |

| The only two publisher partners they have right now are Interplay and Codemasters. They have a Digg style request system though where you can add games you like or vote on ones you want that people have already asked for. They're supposedly using the votes to decide which ones to go after first. |

If this is the same as the BioShock widescreen issue, then its being completely overblown by people wanting an excuse to whine as usual. I've seen comparison screens for the BioShock issue and what people were getting pissed off about amounted to basically losing the bottom half inch of your wrench, nothing that affected the gameplay experience at all. | This site is absolutely badass. You literally buy the game, run an installer and that's it. No special configuration needed. I bought a few older Windows titles and also the Redneck Rampage Collection which is DOS based and had no problems on my desktop or my laptop. It probably won't be for everyone and their catalog is pretty limited right now but its worth checking out. |

| The game looks interesting but I'm not holding my breath. Spark Unlimited has yet to put out a quality product. Turning Point was so bad, even the demo sucked. The concept of this game looks good though so I hope they can pull it off. |

No you. Blizzard hired a psychologist to help them design aspects of the game to be as addictive as possible. So you can take your own advice on the "STFU" sir. I like Blizzard games as much as the next guy but WoW can blow me. Got any links on that?
I love how its the fault of Blizzard and not the people who voluntarily play the game and who can voluntarily quit whenever they want. I played WoW a ton and one day, just quit it. It can be done. |

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that most of the stuff that comes out on the PSP is utter crap..? UMD movies are a joke and the vast majority of games are shovelware. It's no surprise that game sales are low. So why is the hardware selling so well? The PSP is continuing to do very well month after month. Why would people buy it if the games are crap and UMD is crap? |

| Stupid snark aside, what I meant was that maybe it would've made more sense to not go bashing the platforms one minute and then giving them a big hug the next. It naturally makes sense to not start active development on something until its reached a certain point in sales but to take the piss out of each platform for what he perceives as bad design choices and then singing their praise the next minute sounds a bit hypocritical no? |

I find it funny how people are comparing this to used car sales when in the piratcy debates, everyone is always like "you cant say that, its not the same as stealing a car" Those two arguments are in completely different contexts and it isn't hard to see that distinction.
The fact is that regardless of what product it is, the company who originally produced that product doesn't deserve a piece of resale. The video game industry is experiencing double digit growth and is currently swimming in cash. Yes, developers are closing but more are opening than closing and players in every industry close every day. They can't cry that they're losing their shirts on this issue any more than on piracy. I find it hilarious that developers are screaming about losing revenue from used games as if its a new phenomena, particularly when they're trying to restrict how many times we can use our products and also increasingly filling them with context irrelevant dynamic advertising that they certainly don't do for free.
"We're going to tell you how often to use your game, make you look at ads, make the games shorter and say that you can't resell it how you want, all while not lowering the price one cent and still whining that we're going bankrupt." Spare me. All you need to do is look at pictures of offices of a reasonably successful developer to know that they're doing just fine.

| I love how Gabe Newell flip flops on platforms. Originally, he hated the 360 because not every model came with a hard disk, now he thinks highly of it because Orange Box did decently on it. He hated the PS3 because its so hard to program for but now that its selling comparably to the 360, they all of a sudden want to develop for it more. Make a choice dude. |

"We’re willing to evolve our policy to accommodate our consumers. But we’re hoping that everyone understands that DRM policy is essential to the economic structure we use to fund our games and as well as to the rights of people who create them." The thing you don't get is that you're spitting in the face of the people who play your games and without those people, the ones who create them don't have jobs. |

| Does anyone know for sure if the Steam version has the limited activation based version of SecuROM? This doesn't seem to have been confirmed anywhere and no one in the Steam forums is sure either. I have e-mailed Valve support to ask (and told them that they should be informing people it has this if that's the case) but in the meantime, does anyone know? I bought Crysis Warhead on Steam because I read it wouldn't have activation but I haven't run it yet and if it does have this, I will be asking for a refund. |

I don't think nin meant giving others that power. And Blue has had ban power for a long time, but chose not to use it most of the time and deal with abusers another way. I can respect him trying not to create a culture where people are getting banned but there are several examples (no I'm not going to name names, everyone probably knows anyway) where I think the ban hammer would've been more than reasonable. His site, his choice of course, just sayin'. |
